Elizabeth wasn't aware of when she had fallen asleep when she awoke, she was just aware that being awake came with the feeling like she was floating and that sometimes made her feel slightly queasy. She felt something soft caressing her lips and then tickling her cheek. She opened her eyes to see Mary leaning over her with a paintbrush in her hand. She felt lucky that was all Mary was doing. Mary had once left a dead bird in her bed. Elizabeth frowned looking at her surroundings. The walls were painted black by smoke, they were scored by fire, she was laying in a creepy four-poster bed, delicate lace that looked like something Mary would make hung dirty and limp over their heads. She looked around the room expecting to see Charles behind Mary, but he wasn't. This didn't alter her
