Chapter Thirty-One

Elizabeth could hear Agata moving about the bedroom as she sat in the bathtub. She had mentioned something to Charles earlier that evening about not trusting any of the minions to bring her anything, she meant it, but she had not imagined that she would find Agata doing anything for her without being instructed too and resenting her for it. When she got out of the tub and left the bathroom, Agata was still there, she was examining the dress that Elizabeth had worn for the evening hanging in the wardrobe. The bed was turned down and a small fire had been started in the fireplace with the kindling, not so much for the warmth, but to pull a bit of the dampness out of the air. She removed the dress from its hanger and laid it over the end of the bed, Elizabeth went to her dressing table
