In his life, when he was human, Charles had grown up surrounded by servants. The servants in his home had largely outnumbered his small family, the functioned separately and usually in concert with his family, as they performed their duties around the house in their own mysterious order. The chambermaids and footmen came and went, but the butler, the housekeeper, his father's maid, and the valet had remained the same. They enforced the order of the house.
