“What happened between you?” there was enough moonlight for Kate to see the pain ripple across Terry’s features.
“What?”
“It’s written all over you,” she brushed a hand along his jaw. “You loved her very much.”
“s**t!” he turned away and almost trampled a bed of cherry tomato plants. Would have if she hadn’t stopped him.
“I’m not saying I didn’t enjoy kissing you, Terry. And for just a moment, it was me not her that you were kissing. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate that. But there’s other baggage going on.” She tried to leave the door open.
“God damn it!” He continued to glare down at the tomatoes as if they were the ones at fault.
Kate moved up to stand silently beside him, slid her hand into his.
He clamped down hard and held on as he ground out the words.
