Chapter 51 Kate jerked awake when her cell phone alarm went off. It was set to silent so it lay on a nightstand mere inches from her nose and rattled loudly against the hard wood. She jabbed at it until the alarm stopped. “Stupid ass alarm clock!” A tiny voice called from the phone, “I’m not an alarm clock.” She picked it up and held it to her ear, “Uh, hello?” “Rise and shine, Kate. It’s another beautiful day in the neighborhood.” “Rikka.” Kate wondered where the hell she could get some coffee. The room was totally dark except for a nightlight. There was a window cracked open to allow in cool night air with the curtains still pulled back to either side. She could see by the lightening sky that it was time to start breakfast prep soon.
