I watched as Caleb walked Brendan and Megan out. What the hell had just happened? It had been so hard to ignore Megan, and then I had come back from the bathroom to see that Jessica had cornered Megan and that the woman I loved looked as if she was about to burst into tears.
“What happened?” I asked Jessica as I turned my attention to her.
“Nothing,”
“Bullshit,” I snapped angrily. “Don’t lie to me, Jessica. What. Happened?”
“I…I was just trying to understand it, Shane. The two of you…it doesn’t make any sense to me. The way you pretend to ignore each other…the looks…but you two were never actually together…so, why are you two holding onto each other like this?”
“I…I…” I wasn’t sure how to answer her, but it didn’t matter. When Caleb returned, he came right over to me.
