New reality

Aurora's pov I was woken up by the sunlight blaring into my room hurting my eyes, which hurt more when I tried to open them and my aching head didn't go unnoticed. I felt like i was hit by a bus. I pulled the covers over my head but then remembered that I fell asleep on the floor, how did I get into bed?. Scraping my brain for the previous day's events, I then remembered everything, the party, the ceremony, my mothers glare and how it hurt to see the hate in her eyes but what hurt the most was being practically disowned by my mother, my coven.  I curled up on the bed and cried until I couldn't cry anymore. I laid there with no intention of getting up, how could I face the people that now hate me, I can't face those glares all over again, now I know what dad has been going through living with people that thought of you as prey. My stomach growled loudly reminding that I didn't have any breakfast. I got up deciding to clean up still sulking like the ten year old I was. after I finishing washing up I went over my plan to rush into kitchen, grab some food and rush back to my sanctuary.  I slowly opened the door and listened for any noises around the house, when I didn't hear anything I cautiously tiptoed down stairs, I stopped at the bottom of the stairs, listened for anyone in the house and it was clear. I dashed for kitchen only to find dad sitting on the island eating a sandwich. He put his food down and tapped the seat next to him indicating for me to join him. I slowly walked to him and sat beside him. He pushed a plate of food in my direction I hadn't noticed. "thought you'd be hungry skipping breakfast and all" he said with a sad smile. "thanks" I muttered quietly. I finished eating and just sat there not saying a thing, "its ok you know" my dad said turning to look at me. sighing heavily trying to keep the tears from falling, I smiled a small smile remembering my dad was human too, all I'd been thinking about is the coven, it completely slipped my mind that I had someone who understood what I was feeling, he knew my pain, the pain of being human among some of the strongest, scariest and most brutal creatures to walk the earth, he knew what it felt like to be prey. I turned toward him and hugged tightly feeling some of the weight lift of my shoulders, maybe it wasn't so bad after all, I still had my dad. He kissed my forehead as he pulled, "better now" he gave me his best smile, I chucked lightly "a lot better dad thank you" I said feeling a lot better, who knew my dad was good at cheering kids up, he was always away on business in the human world, well.. My world now.  "So what now" my dad asked after a long silence, "you can't keep going to a supernatural school, it wouldn't be safe for you there honey" he said while stroking my hair gently. "I don't know dad" I sad my voice barely audible choking on the lump that formed on my throat. He sighed holding my hand "I called your aunt Caroline and asked if you could stay with them until you finish school and she said it was ok, plus you'll get to learn more about the business, take over some day, you're still my heir you know" he said smiling making me smile with him, it felt good to know some things didn't change. But I suddenly realized that I knew nothing about the world outside the community, the thought of not knowing what to expect scared me a little, I had never been outside the human world before. As if my dad knew what I was thinking, he laughed at my horrified expression and said "don't worry baby girl, you'll fit right in"  I heaved a sigh of relief but then remembered that by moving I leave my twin behind, how could I even leave her, we were thick as thieves, inseparable but now I had to leave her behind. "Dad what about Laura, I can't just leave her, can't she come with me?" I asked hoping I could bring my little sister with me, but with the look dad gave me, I knew she had to stay, if I was correct she would have to take over as queen now that I was no longer an option. Speaking of Laura.. "hey dad, where is Laura anyway, if its still Sunday then she should be here" dad look away awkwardly seeming uncomfortable with the question. "Um well" he started "she and your mom went to start her queenly training" he said looking sorry. It wasn't something I wasn't already expecting, I was just a little hurt it happened so fast, its like they've already moved on without me. "Hey cheer up its gonna be okay, they had to start her training because she is already five years behind" dad said with a small smile. I sighed knowing it was true, my mother had started training me on queenly behavior the second I turned five, guess they had a lot of catching up to do. "How about we go to the human mall and watch a movie, we could also get some burgers after that, what do you say huh" dad offered trying to cheer me up. Well if I'm gonna be living with humans might as well get a glimpse of my new reality. "ok" I said with a smile. We walk into the garage and got into my dad's jeep and drove to the mall. The mall was an hour away so once I got comfortable in my seat I dozed off while dad played his boring jazz music, I kinda like it but I'd never tell him that. I woke up as the car jerked to a stop, lazily rubbing the sleep off my eyes, I got out of the car following my dad to the entrance of the mall from the parking lot. We headed straight to the cinema and of course had to watch some movie called how to train your dragon.. Honestly, for a girl born in the supernatural world and was smarter than kids my age, I felt a little too grown to watch a movie about dragons especially knowing well that they don't exist, well they used to they just died out about a thousand years ago but still gone either way. My dad laughed seeing the sour expression on my face and nudged me forward after buying the ticket and snacks, "come on you might like it plus kids your age are fawning over it" he said handing me my popcorn, "okay fine" I said agreeing to this, "but if I don't like then you owe me ten dollars" I said with a cheeky grin. dad burst out laughing and I joined him. The movie wasn't really that bad, it was about a viking kid who saved a dragon when he was supposed to kill it, anyway now my dad and I were trying to find a burger place for our dinner. we stopped in front of a jewelry store and I was surprised since I thought we were looking for a place to eat. "what are we doing here?" I asked my dad a little confused. "Come on you'll see" he said pulling me into the store. My dad walked over to the counter leaving me a few steps behind him, he said something to the lady working the register and she disappeared behind a door and came out after a few minutes. She handed whatever it was to my dad who turned and got on his knees in front of me. He opened the red velvet box he was holding, inside was a stunning diamond necklace which he delicately placed around my neck. "since the golden one you had was taken back, I thought I'd get you a new one, a better one" he said smiling. I hugged and him while thanking him like a million times. He stood taking my hand and we finally went to eat. We find a nice burger place that wasn't packed, ordered and paid for our food, then found a booth in a corner and ate. For first time in since the disastrous ceremony, I felt loved by my parent.
