Laa’s Point of View
“Everyone is napping, including Dylan and Jones” I said as I carried tea outside for Rebecca and me after I made my rounds upstairs.
“Even Raffa?” Rebecca smiled.
“Even Raffa” I laughed, “he’s right next to Dewi, keeping her safe.”
“I still can’t believe what Scarlett said” Rebecca sipped her tea.
“Either can I. I don’t think Scarlett has any plans to take Jones, I think she was lashing out. For what, I don’t know and don’t care. What she said was inexcusable.”
“It certainly is the bottom line is she wanted to hurt Dylan. Plain and simple. I wonder what Helena has to say about this?” Rebecca wondered.
“We’re about to find out. Here she comes” I couldn’t believe my eyes; I honestly didn’t know what to make of her coming to us. “I hope it’s Helena and not a Faye that intends on killing us.”
“It’s Helena” Rebecca stood to her feet.
“How can you be so sure?” I stood next to her to greet Helena and to show a united front.
“I’ll tell you later” Rebecca told me quietly. When Helena got closer, she was visibly upset, it was clear she had been crying.
She stopped a short distance from us, “I’m sorry for just showing up like this but I didn’t know what else to do.” Helena, Queen of the Faye’s nervously stood in front of us.
“Would you like some tea?” Rebecca graciously offered.
“I would love some, thank you” Helena smiled at us as she sat down. “First and foremost, I want to be clear that I am not here on Scarlett’s behalf or to apologize for her behavior or to try and salvage her relationships. She got herself into this, she can find her way out as far as I’m concerned. What I am here for is to let Dylan and Rowan know I would never dream of taking Jones from them nor do I think I have any right to. I consider all of you family, especially the two of you” she reached for our hands.
“I think they will both appreciate that” I smiled.
“I don’t know where Scarlett learned this kind of behavior. Frank and Sue didn’t raise her that way” Helena shook her head. “Guiz and Marie were so put off by what she did that they actually left the Faye world. He looked me in the eye and told me he didn’t know when they’d be back. Now, I know that boy runs me crazy, but he’s been my little buddy all his life. I miss him already” she started to cry. “And because of Scarlett’s mouth!”
“You’re in a horrible situation. I’m so sorry” I poured her tea.
“Who cares about me, more importantly, how’s Dylan?”
“Honestly, I don’t think she’s begun to process what happened.” Rebecca answered. “She and the baby are upstairs napping.”
“No, I’m not, he woke up” Dylan said softly as she walked out of the house carrying Jones on her hip. “Thank you for coming, I heard everything you said. She didn’t change my feelings about you. Or any of the Faye’s for that matter.” Dylan sat Jones on her knee, right away he started grinning and blowing raspberries at Helena.
“Are you blowing raspberries at me you silly boy!” Helena tickled him all over making him belly laugh and wiggle until, right before our eyes he started to float.
“OH, MY WORD!” I exclaimed, spilling my tea.
“I’m not doing that!” Helena held her hands up in front of her. “I swear to the universe and all I love!”
“JONES!” Dylan pulled him back down in her lap. “Mom, did you do that?”
“No! Was he levitating?” Rebecca blinked her eyes several times in disbelief.
“He couldn’t have been, that takes years of work to develop the concentration to be able to do that” I said.
“You tickle him, and we’ll see what happens” Helena said to me. I did and sure enough he started floating again. Rebecca and Dylan tried it with the same results.
“Awesome, so now my baby levitates when he’s excited” Dylan sat down with him.
“He doesn’t even crawl yet!” I stated the obvious, but I was dumbfounded that a baby could accomplish such a thing. It wasn’t a common trait for even the most powerful to have.
“Oh, Dylan” Helena looked at Jones, “I don’t envy you and Rowan at all.”
Bastien’s Point of View
I stopped dead in my tracks when I spotted Helena as we came through the house. I rushed to Rowan, “I am very proud of you for what you said to Lucky back at the clinic.”
“Yeah… You said that” Rowan looked at me suspiciously.
“I would never tell you what to do regarding your family, especially in your own home. Helena is outside with the ladies. You might want to hear what she came to say before you react” I said in a rushed whisper.
“I’m alright, I don’t have any ill will towards her, as of now” he casually shrugged.
“My, my, my it’s a brand-new Rowan” Danny smirked.
“Shut up” Rowan glanced back at Danny as he made his way to the back.
“Look baby, daddy’s home! Show Daddy what you can do” Dylan tickled Jones, riling him up.
“Lemme see what you can do!” Rowan beamed, and then we all saw what Jones could do. He floated up in the air towards his father as if it was nothing. “What the…!” Rowan vamped to him pulling him against his chest. We stood there, our mouths gaping open at what we had just seen.
“Oh, enough with this day already! We’ve got a small girl that could shift ant any moment and now floating babies! Mother of Christ, move along. Nothing to see here people” Danny dramatically flopped himself down next to where Laa was sitting.
“I don’t know why I’m so shocked. Dylan can do that, and we already know he’s “The King” as Stacia says” I tried not to laugh when I saw Rebecca trying not to laugh. “But I am.”
“Hello Helena” Rowan said respectfully.
“Hello, I want you to understand that I am not here on Scarlett’s behalf in any capacity. I’m here because I wanted to reassure all of you but you and Dylan most of all that I would never think to do something as terrible as threatening you with your son. Not just because of the pain it would cause you, but I can’t imagine being responsible for breaking this little guy’s heart, for any reason.” Helena smiled at Jones who was happily gnawing on his daddy’s chin.
“Thank you, Helena. I’m glad you came. It means a lot” he hugged her with his other arm.
“Where are Suke and Lucky?” Laa asked.
“At the clinic. Lucky has decided to stay there day and night working on getting it up and running. Suke has volunteered the two of you to stay there with him. Surprise” Danny said flatly.
“A clinic? What clinic?” Helena looked at us. Boom explained all the events leading up to the emergency surgery that he did on Dewi and how we went about acquiring the hostel that was soon to be Lucky’s clinic/ hospital. “He’s such a beautiful soul” Helena looked sad and angry.
“He certainly is” Boom agreed.
“I wonder if he’d let me to help him get it ready. I could have it ready to go in no time” Helena wondered.
“I’m sure he would. In fact, I’m sure he’d be very grateful” Boom replied. “I’ve known Lucky a long time, he would never hold Scarlett’s actions against you or anyone.”
“Boom’s right” Rowan added, “I’m sure it will make him feel a little better knowing you’re not choosing sides.”
“I wouldn’t go that far; I made my unhappiness about her behavior very clear to Scarlett before I left. Guiz and Marie left to parts unknown too. I told Laa and Rebecca Scarlett got herself into this, she can get herself out.”
Lucky’s Point of View
“We have company” Suke casually mentioned.
“I see him. I don’t want to scare him off” I said, referring to the kid watching us from a tree.
“Maybe we should just say hello?” Suke suggested.
“Good thinking, friend” I walked towards the building, “Hey Suke, I’m gonna grab a water, ya want one?”
“I would, thank you.”
“Hey kid, you want one?” I smiled up at him sitting on his perch. At first, he looked embarrassed before he gathered up his courage and swung down out of the tree like a little Tarzan. He looked to be about fourteen of fifteen, he eyed Suke and I cautiously.
“Who are you and what do you want with this place?” He puffed his chest out as much as he could.
“My name is Lucky, and this is my friend Suke. We’re turning this place into a clinic to help the people in the villages around here. What’s your name?”
“I don’t believe you” he said defiantly.
“Do you know Dewi?” I asked as nicely as I could.
“You hurt Dewi! It was you!” He picked up a rock and threw it at me, I heard Suke chuckling under his breath behind me.
“No, no! I did a surgery on her to make her better.”
“And then you took her! Just like all the other girls you took!” He yelled at me in broken English, picking up another rock.
“Whoa! Hang on a minute, I didn’t take Dewi away. I took her to Dylan and Rowan’s house so she could get better faster! I promise, I’ll take you to her so you can see that I’m telling you the truth. I’m sure she’d be happy to see someone else she knows besides just Eka.”
“You know Eka? Eka’s there too?” he looked like he was coming around.
“I do. Can I ask you something?” I asked casually.
“Okay…” he reluctantly agreed.
“What did you mean about taking all the other girls? What girls?”
He looked at Suke and then back at me, “my little sister went away and a few other girls from our village went away too. I have friends in other villages, girls go away from there too.”
“Is that right?” Suke scanned the jungle.
“I’m sorry your sister went away” I said sincerely.
“Mazi” he looked down at his bare feet. “My name is Mazi.”
“That’s a very powerful name. No wonder you’re so brave” Suke bowed his head to him.
“Hey Mazi, do you want a job?” I asked.
“A job?” he looked at me, “what can I do?”
“There’s lots of stuff you can do. You can help me around here; you can teach me how to speak better Balinese. I can speak a little Indonesian, but my Balinese is pretty bad, but I think the most important job you can do is help me get Dewi back climbing trees” I smiled.
“Okay!” Mazi’s face lit up.
“How about you go take as many bottles of water as you can carry back to your village and tell your mother that you’re going to see Dewi and when you get back that’s what we’ll do” Suke pointed him in the direction of where the water was.
“I’ll be right back!” He spun on his heels and ran towards the open-air kitchen.
“We’ll be right here!” I called back to him. I waited until he was out of earshot before I turned to Suke, “what the f**k goes on in this Jungle, brother?”
“I don’t know but I know I don’t like it. Maybe Laa should stay at the house with the others until we get this sorted out.”
Stacia’s Point of View
I walked to my door when I heard soft knocking on it, pausing for a moment before I opened it. One should never appear too eager.
“Hi.”
“Scarlett, what are you doing here?” I didn’t give a chance to answer. “If you’re looking for a shoulder to cry on you’ve come to the wrong place. The last time I helped a power-hungry woman such as yourself I ended up locked in a shack for an eternity. No thank you.”
“Excuse me?” She was insulted to say the least, “Are you seriously comparing me to Remi!? I’m nothing like Remi!”
“You don’t think so? Well, I beg to differ. Remi didn’t start out the evil b***h she ended up. She slowly morphed into that, and do you know why? Because she wasn’t the best and her insecurities and ego insisted that she had to be. She wanted to be the star, not Rebecca. Rebecca had everything Remi wanted, she had the power, the beauty and the all-powerful Bastien worshipping the very ground she walked on. Instead of focusing on what she did have, like her ability to make potions no one thought were possible she focused on what she wanted, what she would never be. Rebecca was effortlessly perfect, and Remi had to work for it all until her jealousy and envy consumed her. Any of this ringing any bells, Scarlett? Speaking of ringing bells, I think I recall someone telling me you were quite smitten with old Remi when you met her as well as that other psycho, Bella that you were enchanted with. What’s that saying? Birds of a feather, now you hear what I’m saying to you, and you hear me good. Do not think for one minute that I will not share my concerns with Bastien and before you get any ideas in your head about killing me before I do or some nonsense like that, you are not smart enough nor strong enough to scratch me. I do not have the emotional ties to you that the others do, make no mistake I will kill you where you stand if it means protecting Jones. That’s all I have to say to you, do not darken my doorstep again and you are not welcome at Beloved’s. Good day Scarlett.” I closed the door before she could get a word out.
“Nicely done Stacia. That should do it.” I heard behind me.
“Thank you but I meant every word. I hope you and your plan are able to stop this before it gets any worse.”
