Helena’s Point of View
“Hey Grandma” Scarlett looked up from making herself a sandwich in my kitchen.
“What have you done, Scarlett?”
“What do you mean?”
“What do I mean? You cannot be serious.”
“Oh, Guiz has a big mouth. Remind me to tell him.”
“That might be awhile, he and Marie left because of your behavior today.”
“Whatever” she forced a chuckle, “dramatic much?”
“Dramatic!? Scarlett, you threatened a mother with taking her child away. A mother who also happens to be your best friend. Do not speak. Do not utter a sound until I tell you that you can. Let me make one thing very clear to you, Jones does not exist because of you, he does not exist because of me or Marie. What you need to understand is that Jones exists because he always existed. He was always meant to be Dylan and Rowan’s child because they were also always meant to be. How do you think that Faye was able to take his form? Because he was real, just like Dylan was Rebecca’s daughter, Jones is her son. Rebecca might be the most powerful witch in the Yaman bloodline, but Dylan is the most powerful of them all because of her shared bloodline with Bastien and Stacia. Well, she was until Jones was born.” Scarlett just stared at me. “Jones would’ve happened anyway, but I moved things along when I saw a young woman in pain because her unborn child, a child she didn’t believe was possible was used as a weapon against her. NO ONE has the right to threaten to take that her child away from her. Especially you, and how do you suppose you would do that? You and what army? Because if you think that family wouldn’t reign hellfire down on you, think again. War doesn’t begin to describe what would happen if you or anyone took that child. Witches and warlocks would come from far and wide to protect him. You know less than nothing about the laws of the supernatural world.”
“I just…” She tried to speak, I could feel my anger rising.
“What did I tell you about speaking!!!? I know what you did, you tried to use Dylan’s biggest weakness against her. You know better than anyone how deep her abandonment issues are, and you held it over her head. Shame on you! Your husband may be able to forgive you, but your friend may not. I don’t know if I could forgive you if I were Dylan. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m leaving to try and repair some of the damage you caused, not for you or your benefit either. This may come as a surprise to you, but I am genuinely quite fond of that family. All of them and I would’ve been if you had ended up in some far away land far away from Dylan. Let’s hope Rowan doesn’t kill me on site because of your actions” I stormed out before my emotions got the better of me.
Rebecca’s Point of View
“There she is! There’s Mommy” I said to a weepy Jones when I saw Dylan heading down the beach with Suke and Danny flanking her.
“Wow, they’re back a lot sooner than I expected. They’ve only been gone less than an hour” Laa looked at the time.
Dylan ran the rest of the way, Jones reaching for her. “Hi, my handsome boy” Dylan cuddled him as she sat down. “What happened while we were gone?”
“Absolutely nothing other than Jones missing you. The guys haven’t come back yet, Lucky hasn’t even come down. What happened on your end?” I wasn’t sure I wanted to know.
“Scarlett’s behavior was shocking! You’ll never believe it; I don’t believe it and was there” Danny shook his head in disbelief before telling us everything that was said.
“Words fail me” Laa said quietly after a long pause, “I truly don’t know what to say. I’m sorry Dylan, that must have been very painful.”
“I feel sick” Dylan twirled Jones’s hair around her finger, staring off into space. “I can’t even get my head around what happened. Somehow, I have to explain it to Lucky, the last thing he needs is her coming after him about something he knows nothing about.”
Suke cleared his throat, “I will tell Lucky and the rest about what happened. You don’t need to go through it again. Talking through it is one thing, retelling the story is another.”
“I need blood, we all need a bit of blood to settle our nerves” Danny went inside to get some. No one spoke, even when Danny appeared with cups of blood the three of them drank it in silence. “Here they come, I’ll take the cups inside so no one wonders why we’re drinking blood in the middle of the morning” Danny disappeared inside the house. Rowan, Bastien and Boom looked excited and pleased with themselves when they walked up to us. I knew Bastien could see something was wrong, but he also seemed to know that now was not the time to ask.
“Babe, are you alright? You look sad” Rowan asked Dylan.
“I’m just a little tired still, that’s all” she smiled.
“What’s the word boys?” Suke stood up to greet them.
“We gotta get Lucky to tell him the good news” Boom grinned.
“I’m one step ahead of you brother, what’s the good news?” Lucky joined us outside.
“We can’t tell you! You have to see it for yourself!” Rowan was giddy with excitement.
“That good, huh? I dunno if I can leave” he looked up towards the room Dewi was in.
“Lucky, if you think she’s stable enough Rebecca and I can watch over her, just while you’re gone” Laa volunteered.
“I think that’s a good idea, then I can see what all the fuss is about too” Suke saw his opportunity to tell Lucky and the others what happened away from the house and Dylan in case Lucky got angry. Not that I expected him too, but you never know.
“Oh, Bastien before I forget to tell you, Stacia met us at the airport. He dropped off a bag full of things he thought you may need in light of recent events” Laa said.
“I’m surprised he didn’t come” Bastien was disappointed Stacia didn’t come although he’d never admit it.
“He has a new girlfriend” Danny announced.
“He also said he would watch over Beloved’s like it was his own, but he made sure to tell us that he would come if we needed him to” Laa ignored Danny.
“Good old Stacia” Rowan rubbed Dylan’s shoulders.
“I’m going to check on Dewi, then we can go” Lucky hurried back upstairs.
Suke’s Point of View
We rode mopeds to what was soon to be the new clinic/hospital. I debated the whole way there when I should drop the bomb, clearly there wasn’t a good time to this. I just couldn’t decide if I should do it before or after Lucky saw the place for himself, the decision was made for me when the sprawling property came into view.
“WHAT! No way, is that it?” Lucky looked like a kid in a candy store.
“That’s it!” Bastien smiled at Lucky’s happiness, however short lived it was going to be.
“Bro this is perfect!” Lucky was ecstatic. We could see the wheels turning in his head as he looked around at all the possibilities.
“You gotta see the rest!” Rowan threw his arm around Lucky’s neck when he, Danny and Boom walked inside.
“What the hell is going on?” Bastien asked me.
“Bastien, you can’t even begin to imagine but I’d like to wait until they come back before I explain further. If that’s okay” I said solemnly.
“Dylan’s not a little tired, is she?” Bastien exhaled deeply.
“No, she is not. She’s heartbroken and Lucky will be too I’m afraid.” Bastien and I waited silently for the guys, when they came bounding outside, I cleared my throat and began. “I am very sorry to ruin this happy moment, but I’m left with no choice, it needs to be said. Please, all of you sit” I gestured to a sitting area near where we were standing. Once everyone was seated, I continued “soon after Laa and I arrived Dylan learned about Scarlett relieving Lucky and Rebecca from their duties with Nabi’s. She was upset and confused and wanted to speak to Scarlett face to face, to make sure she got there and back quickly and safely Danny and I accompanied her to the Faye World.”
“You guys saw Scarlett?” Lucky looked at Danny and I while Rowan looked shocked that Dylan had taken off to the Faye world in the time that he’d been gone.
“Yes, we did. Dylan couldn’t reach her directly so she called Guiz, and he and Marie brought Scarlett to the room where Jones was born so they could talk. Unfortunately, it did not go as planned.”
“At all” Danny sadly shook his head.
“I think the best way to tell you what transpired is to give Boom access to the memories and you can see for yourself how unbelievable it was. Boom, would you?” I held my hand out to him he looked at Danny then me, I was certain he was picking up on how awful this was going to be, but they all needed to see it for themselves. We all joined hands except Lucky, he hesitated before finally taking a deep breath and grabbing Rowan and Danny’s hands. The trip down memory lane started with the brief conversation before we left and ended when we got in the portal to come back.
“That wasn’t any easier the second time” Danny rubbed his temples when we were through. Everyone else looked like they had a lot to say but they couldn’t find the words. Rowan mumbled “Jesus” but that was all he said.
Lucky finally spoke, “that is some f****d up s**t. Rowan, Bastien, I am so sorry” Lucky said to them.
“You’re sorry? What could you possibly be apologizing for?” Bastien looked at him as if he was mad.
“Because Scarlett insinuating that she could make Jones go away is a low I didn’t think she could sink too. Dylan had every right to confront her about how she’s been acting and firing me and Rebecca. I’m glad I saw for myself what happened because Scarlett won’t be able to blame Dylan. I don’t know if I can be with someone that has become so venomous” Lucky began to cry. Rowan stunned us all by what he said next.
Rowan stunned us all by what he said next, “Brother, I don’t think now is the best time to make decisions like that. Give it a minute to settle, in the meantime we’ll get this place up and running.”
“That’s right” Danny agreed, “and while we’re at it maybe we can come up with a plan to convince the proud, hardworking Balinese people to let us fix up their village.”
“Dewi should be out of the woods enough that she won’t need me hovering over her. I’m going to spend all my time here; it needs a lot of work before it will be the place I want it to be” Lucky looked around with tears still in his eyes.
“Rubbish, we have plenty of space and then some for everyone at our other house” Danny insisted.
“I appreciate that brother, I do but if I don’t keep myself busy, I won’t stay out of my head and that’s not a good place for me to be right now.”
“Good. Then I’ll stay here with you” I said to him.
“You don’t have too…” he tried to shoulder the burden alone.
“It wasn’t a question; I will not have you out here alone. Besides Laa will enjoy being out in nature like this and I’m sure she’ll love breathing new life into the neglected, trampled foliage around here.”
“If you guys don’t mind, I think Rebecca and I will take you up on your offer” Bastien said to Danny and Boom. “With all of us coming and going I think it’s better if we stayed with you.”
“Bastien, it’s no trouble. Dylan and I invited you both to stay with us” Rowan interjected.
“I know you did but that was when we were coming for a visit. Now that we’re going to be here indefinitely the two of you need your own space with the baby. Jones needs his time alone with his parents” Bastien explained.
“It’s not far at all from the treehouse, Pawpaw and Nana can be there every morning for breakfast with Sir Jones” Boom smiled.
“Okay, I guess” Rowan conceded “but you have to promise you’ll come over anytime you want. And you’re telling your daughter.”
