HELENA POV The first thing I noticed once we were finally in the air was how much my hands were still shaking. Not violently. Not enough for anyone else to point it out. Just enough that I had to press my fingers together, palms flat on my thighs, to stop them from betraying me. My power had burned through me many times before. They were not the first vampires I’d killed. Still, something had been different this time. Maybe the rage. Maybe being away from my sons. Maybe the fact that I hadn’t used my flames like that in a long time, not unleashed, not without restraint, not with that kind of finality.
