Chapter 82-Standing Up

1698 Words
(Amira) Alden stepped into the room, closing the door behind him as I looked over, smiling at him happily. His eyes seemed to sparkle, something seemed different... I turned, standing up as I walked towards him, examining him closely as Kamaris watched me with confusion. "You seem different Alden." I noted suspiciously. He avoided my gaze, looking towards the wall as his hand reached up instinctively, gripping the side of his neck as if he were hiding something. Kamaris walked next to me, looking at Alden as well, noticing the same thing as I did. "What?" Alden asked nervously. Just then I saw a huge bruise on the side of his neck, pointing towards it quickly. "What's that?" I asked, glancing towards Kamaris as he seemed to be grinning now. Kamaris patted Alden on the side of the arm. "About f*****g time." He mumbled cooly, looking at Alden. Kamaris glanced down, meeting my gaze, and leaned into me. "You have had many, many of those since meeting me, my love." Kamaris said with a wide teeth-baring grin. Then it clicked, Alden was bit on the neck, by Nati! Well..it had to be her..right? I gasped, clasping my hands together as I couldn't contain my excitement. She must be absolutely bursting this morning, I couldn't wait to see her. Alden rolled his eyes, looking at me now before frowning. "Let's not make a big deal about this. I don't want to make her feel uncomfortable." Alden blurted quickly, clearing his throat as he turned to Kamaris. "Also, the reason why I'm here is to let you know the room is all set up. They are bringing him now." He spoke more seriously now. His posture was straight and his expression cold. I wondered who they were talking about as Kamaris nodded, looking at me as he spoke. "I will be away for a few hours. I want you to stay with Namoka and Nati okay?" He said quickly, it wasn't quite a command like usual, it was more of a request. "Of course." I said softly, nodding my head as he leaned into me. "Good girl." His words were playful as he kissed my neck gently. Alden turned away and began walking out the door. "I will walk you to breakfast, then we have to go." Kamaris stated while gripping my hand and pulling me towards the hallway. I glanced over at him, noticing his eyes turning darker with each step. He had to be seeing Gideon. Maybe they were going to question him today. We entered the kitchen and Nati was humming happily by the stove. Kavi and Namoka sat at the table, waiting patiently as Kavi was scribbling in her book. She glanced up, meeting my eyes quickly, and smiled. "Good morning." I said cheerfully, causing Nati to look around and smile at me happily. Oh, she was definitely bursting... Nati glanced over and saw Alden, meeting his gaze and then turning back around quickly. "We will be back soon my love." Kamaris explained to me as he turned me around, kissing me sweetly and caressing my hair. "Marcus and Kaden just headed down. You will do the shield afterward?" Namoka asked stiffly as if she were filled with worry. Kamaris nodded, looking back towards Alden as he spoke. "Yes, so make sure the hunting groups are inside the perimeters, that way the shield accepts them." Kamaris said with a professional tone. The mood in the kitchen changed drastically as reality set in. This village had been discovered and was practically a sitting duck. I was guessing they would put a shield around it, maybe like the one Marudeva had but I hadn't realized Kamaris and Alden would be the ones doing it. Kamaris led me over to the table, sitting me down next to Kavi as he kissed me one more time. "I will be back soon okay." He spoke softly as I nodded my head smiling gently as he began walking out of the room. Once he made it to the door, he looked back one more time, his eyes staring into mine. Something in me began to feel off...like something wasn't right. I stood quickly, running to him, kissing him much deeper this time as he held me tightly. His hands stroked my hair. "It will be okay, I will be right back, I promise." He whispered, his voice full of emotion as I nodded against him. "I will miss you." I felt as if I could cry. I don't know why this was so hard..I felt like a fool for getting emotional. Kamaris leaned back, kissing me deeply one last time before pulling away. "See you soon." He spoke softly while turning to leave, our hands slowly slipping apart as he began to walk away and then he was gone. I could almost burst into tears right now..like I felt so emotional I wasn't sure why but it just felt wrong being away from him...Like something bad might happen. Nati cleared her throat, a soft smile on her lips as she spoke. "Breakfast is ready." She said smiling as I glanced at her. Just then I noticed a huge bite mark on her own neck. Surprise filled me as I tried to push those bad thoughts away. I put on my best smile as I sat next to Kavi. Looking down I saw a breakfast scramble sitting on the plate. It had egg, ham, cheese, and peppers inside. It looked delicious like most food since we got here. "Thank you Nati, it looks great." I complimented, smiling as I took the first bite. Suddenly Namoka turned her attention to me. "I want to get you out in the ring today Amira." Namoka said flatly, looking up from her plate as she grabbed a fork. I blinked in surprise, looking at her as her expression remained stoic. "I know Kamaris will be pissed, but after yesterday, I think it will be good for you to know how to fight." She stated firmly. I nodded my head, agreeing with her one hundred percent. Jumping on Dante's back wasn't the best defense..I admit. If I didn't have the element of surprise everything could have gone to hell...thats for sure. "Okay, I would like to learn." I agreed, nodding my head as Namoka finally smiled for the first time today. "Good, we don't need any weak women in this family, we need to be able to defend ourselves." She spoke full of confidence, her words catching me off guard as she met my eyes. Family? I looked towards Nati, a soft smile on her lips as she nodded in agreement. This place, these people..I truly felt more welcome than I ever had even in my own family. I know it had only been three days since arriving, but these people have truly made a huge impact on my life. I smiled softly, excitement filling me as I continued to eat. After we were done, I stood slowly, helping Nati clear the table as we walked into the kitchen. "Amira, I need to tell you something." She whispered while placing an empty plate on the counter. I turned towards her, curiosity filling me. "Last night, Alden and I..we..we..you know." She said quickly, trying to stifle her excitement as I tried to fight the giggle that wanted to explode from me. She began hitting me softly, trying to calm me down. "So..how was it?" I asked curiously, seeing she was about to burst. "It was unlike anything I ever imagined." She sighed, her back resting on the counter as she looked up. "He told me he had been wanting to for years, that he just didn't want to make anything awkward with my family." She explained softly, her head up in the clouds as if she were reliving it all. I reached forward, hugging her excitedly. "I am so happy for you both. Seeing you two last night, I could see how much he cares for you." I said while placing the dishes in the sink. Nati looked down, smiling as she began to blush. "Can I be honest?" She asked nervously, looking away as she spoke. "Of course Nati." I said, not sure what she was about to say. "When I first met you..I was really jealous. Seeing how Alden looked at you and was protective. I thought he was in love with you." She said, glancing up at me as it took everything in me not to burst out laughing. "In love with me?" I gasped, feeling shocked. She nodded, smiling as she turned back towards me. "I even asked him last night. He told me he does care about you, but as a friend. That he would do anything for you, and he feels like he owes you a lot for everything he let happen to you." She said softly, her words making me look down, knowing what Alden meant, and not realizing he felt guilt for that. "Alden was the first person who showed me true kindness, not out of pity, just out of respect for being a real person." I spoke while reaching my hand out, gripping hers. "That's why I am so happy for you both, that you have each other and can make one another happy. Because you deserve that as much as he does Nati." I said with a gentle smile and Nati's eyes filled with tears, a soft laugh leaving her as she wiped her eyes. "Thank you Amira..I am so glad to have met you..I feel like you are already a true friend. It's weird how It has only been a few days." She said happily. "I know right." I laughed now, my own tears filling my eyes as we both hugged one another, feeling as if Nati were truly my first real genuine friend. Not someone who was forced to watch over me or came to like me along the way..she was kind to me from the start. "Come on you two, it's time to get going." Namoka yelled from the other room. Well..I hope Kamaris isn't too pissed..but I have to say..I'm really looking forward to this.
