Either you reject him and accept me as your mate, or I kill him, making things much more painful for not only him but you as well." Alpha Kassius's words echoed through me. The reality of it all feeling like a knife in my chest as I couldn't believe this was truly happening. "What's it going to be?" "I will just make the choice for her. The rejection will come from me." My mate rushed, causing my eyes to widen as he went to stand. "No, that wasn't one of the choices given. And did I tell you to stand?" Kassius hissed while striding back over to my mate and pushing him down to his knees. That's when I watched Kassius pull a silver dagger from the leather belt around his waist before playing with it casually. "Lumi will either reject you or kill you. There are no other options. I can't risk her getting a second chance mate. Considering she will be the one to break the connection, the moon goddess wouldn’t dare gift her with another fated mate." Alpha Kassius stated triumphantly, making me sink down as I realized this was his plan all along. Was that why Flynn tried to keep his distance? "You are a f*****g monster!" A voice yelled, making me freeze as my eyes darted towards my best friend Sasha. I could see her huddling beside her family as she glared towards Alpha Kassius angrily. "Excuse me, what was that?" Alpha Kassius stood up straighter, looking towards my best friend as I shook my head no. "Wait! I-I will do it right now! Just please don't hurt anyone." I cried out, realizing just what this man was capable of doing as my best friend looked at me in disbelief. "Lumi you can't! This monster doesn't deserve you!" She screamed as tears started to fill my eyes. There was no other choice. "How do you know what I deserve? Maybe it's your pack that isn't deserving. What makes all of you so special to be blessed by the goddess. And here you are, hiding your gifts away from the rest of the world." "No, we are hiding from assholes like you! This is exactly why we never left the mountain. You will never be worthy enough to be called Lumi's mate. Even if you force her to leave a mark on your neck, it won't make you special." Sasha yelled back, making my insides twist as I watched Kassius's eye twitch in response. "Well, shall we test that theory? Let's see if your precious moon goddess will come down and save you since your so f*****g special." I heard Kassius hiss. I knew deep down what was about to happen. I rushed forward, reaching for Alpha Kassius's hand as I fell to my knees like the pathetic girl he has made me become and begged. "She doesn't mean it, please. I will listen and reject my mate. She is just upset." I rushed, holding Alpha Kassius's rough hand as I stared up at him pleadingly. That's when the large man bent at the waist, coming closer to me as his smoky scent invaded my nostrils. "Oh sweet Little Lumi, you know I can't let her live after disrespecting me like that." He spoke softly, his words almost too gentle as he reached down and caressed my cheek. All I could do was shake my head no over and over again. "I will do anything, please." I choked, letting my tears fall as Alpha Kassius squatted down, gripping my chin once again. "Trust me, after all of this, I know you will. I am going to have to break you, my beautiful girl, and once you are fully broken, I will own you for the rest of your life." I sat there in shock, feeling the Alpha's lips crash to mine as the sound of screaming pierced through the cold night air. I knew exactly whose scream it was, and it was a sound I would never forget for as long as I lived. "Look, see what happens to those who disrespect me." Kassius rushed, yanking me by the hair before shoving my face towards my now dead friend. The sight of her lifeless body caused a low primal sob to bellow out of me. The realization that this was truly happening put me into some form of shock as I saw the other members of my pack crying and cowering in fear. 'We can't let him get away with this Lumi!' Cascadia cried out, her pain just as intense as my own. Sasha... my sweet friend. How could this happen?! "Let's get on with it, shall we? I want to get on the road by morning. We have a long day of travel ahead of us." Kassius whispered against my ear before kissing me once more. His lips pressed against me hard as his teeth bit into my flesh, causing me to bleed. I fought the urge to vomiting while trying to push the image of my best friend from my mind. "Flynn, you might want to stay kneeling for this." Kassius laughed, dragging me closer to him before stepping behind me possessively. I could feel his hands on the base of my throat as I looked at my mate. 'I'm sorry, Cascadia.' I whispered, knowing this had the potential of hurting her way worse than me. 'It has to be done. We need to protect our pack, and once we get Alpha Kassius far away from here, then we will slit his throat for what he did.' She growled, and I couldn't help but agree. We just had to get him away from Snow Ridge. Then our pack can recover from this. By the time it was my turn to speak, I felt nothing but anger. The numbing pain of losing my best friend seemed to make this easier somehow as I spoke the words Kassius was waiting for me to say. "I, Lumi Holloway of the Snow Ridge Pack, Reject you Flynn of the-" "Shadow Claw pack." Kassius whispered beside my ear, making my blood run cold. Shadow Claw, where have I heard that name before? "Reject you Flynn of the Shadow Claw Pack as my fated mate from now until all of eternity." I whispered, and the moment the last word slipped from my lips, I watched as our mate dropped to the floor, rolling back and forth in pure agony as he choked out a sob. "I'm so sorry." I whispered, feeling defeated as Kassius hunched over me, stroking my hair and back while my poor mate suffered through the rejection. "Say it, Flynn, finish it off." Kassius growled, placing his face in the crook of my neck right where my mark would be as I tried not to look towards my parents. I couldn't handle seeing their faces. I knew it would just destroy them even more. I needed to stay strong and get through this for them. For all of them. "I, Flynn Anderson of the Shadow Claw pack, accept your rejection." It was like my body had been engulfed in flames. The searing pain was so overwhelming that I hadn't even realized Alpha Kassius had picked me up. I could feel Cascadia's agony mixing with my own as her howls filled my head. The sound so deafening that I couldn't hear anything else but the sorrow she was experiencing. "Look at me, Lumi. Reject the pack now, and we will leave." Alpha Kassius's grey eyes appeared in front of me. His hand lightly tapped my cheek as he tried to get me to focus. "I know it hurts, but you need to reject the pack." "I-I can't." I mumbled weakly, feeling like I was going to pass out from the pain. "You can, say it now." He gritted through his teeth, making me flinch as I turned my head, looking for my parents and the rest of my pack. Where did they go? Had he already set them free? "No, look here. Say it, Lumi." "I...I, Lumi Holloway, reject Snow Ridge as my home and pack." I felt the last connection holding me together snap in two. The pain of losing so much in such a short time making me slip in and out of consciousness. "Alpha, we couldn't find the stone. It doesn't appear to be here. We searched everywhere." A voice spoke as I clung to Alpha Kassius shirt desperately, feeling like my heart was being ripped out over and over again. 'Cascadia, are you there?' I couldn't feel her... Her cries have stopped, and now I can't feel her. "What a waste. It wasn't even here to begin with." Kassius scoffed, and that's when I felt something brush along my lips. "Perhaps it was you who brought me here then. Everything is meant to happen for a reason, after all." "What shall we do with the ones we locked in the lodge?" "Did you add Flynn to them?" "Yes, Alpha." "Good, then burn it. We will leave in twenty minutes. I want everything taken care of by then. There must be no proof that we were ever here." Burn it? Burn what? Suddenly, there was a small stabbing pain on the side of my hip, making me flinch. Within seconds, I felt the darkness closing in around me. I tried to fight it, the words I heard not fully registering as I fought so hard to keep my eyes open. "Shhh, just give in my sweet girl, and before you know it, we will be home." Home, you destroyed my home, and once I get my strength back, I will make you pay for what you did to me and my pack.
