Chapter 3

(Lumi) I could feel my boots dragging in the snow. These worries of possibly being rejected played over and over in my mind as I tried to understand why my mate didn't want to be seen with me. After he left me standing by the tree all alone, I felt this sense of uneasiness rising. Something was wrong. This isn't how finding my mate was supposed to be. I watched as other couples who had just found their fated mate act so differently than my own. In fact, they seemed protective of their mates, whereas mine didn't want a single thing to do with me. 'Cheer up, maybe he is shy because you are the Alpha's daughter.' Sasha linked, her elbow bumping into mine as I tried not to spill the platter of food I was carrying. 'I doubt it. I must not live up to his expectations. He must've been expecting something more.' I mumbled back, wishing I could go back to bed and act like none of this ever happened. 'Lumi, you are the most beautiful girl I have ever met. What more can that man possibly need?!' Sasha scoffed, making me roll my eyes. 'Beauty isn't everything.' I muttered, not feeling like talking about this anymore. Yeah, my mate said I was beautiful, but that wasn't enough clearly. But he hasn't even tried to get to know me. Stepping towards the lodge, I could hear the sound of laughter echoing throughout the large room. I swear the sound of my mate's voice seemed to be amplified as I picked it out of the crowd immediately. "No, we use cell phones to contact those who are too far to reach. It's kind of like a mind link, but it uses technology instead." He explained to Shasha's little brother Zane, who was gathered around him along with a few other pups his age. I could see my mate was holding one of those devices they called a phone. We didn't have any use for them. Considering we were so high up on the mountain, there wouldn't be any service anyway. So whenever the other packs come to visit, they show us whatever new thing seems to be going on in the world as we sit in our protective bubble, unaware of any of it. That's how the rest of the evening went. Dad made me sit with Sasha and a couple of my other pack members we grew up with. Everyone was having a grand old time... drinking and having fun. Some were even dancing. All I could do was stare at my mate, wondering if I would ever see him again after tomorrow. Sometime throughout the night, I learned my mate's name was Flynn by the other members of his pack calling him that as I couldn't help but feel jealous. He didn't even tell me his name... I watched as my mate's hazel eyes flicked to mine. The look on his face caused my heart to ache as I wished he would just talk to me or try to get to know me. Maybe I can just ask him what the problem is. In fact, I'm going to right now. I jumped up out of my chair and went to turn towards my mate when a tall figure suddenly blocked my path. "Well, there you are, little beauty. I was wondering where you were hiding." Alpha Kassius mumbled lowly, his voice making my body tense as I felt my brow furrowing. "Is there something I can help you with?" I asked, feeling annoyed that he was blocking the path to my mate. "Actually, I was wondering if I could speak with you. Alone." The Alpha stated, taking me aback as I just blinked up at him in shock. "It's about your mate over there." He added, nodding towards my mate as I peaked over the Alpha's shoulder, seeing my mate stiffen. "Is everything okay?" I asked worriedly, wondering if my mate told the Alpha what was wrong. Is he too shy to tell me in person? "Come this way, then I will explain everything." The Alpha whispered, prompting me to glance around as I saw my mother and father sitting at a table, speaking with a few members of the Blue River Pack. Dad was smiling and laughing as mom rolled her eyes. I could tell they were having a good time though. Dad might've had too much to drink now that I see his rosey cheeks, but I'm sure mom is keeping him in line. That's when I felt the Alpha's large rough hand grip my arm. The sound of music played all around us as I nodded softly, hoping that whatever the Alpha had to say would make things clearer. "Come." He ordered once more, tugging me towards the outside as I looked over at my mate again. His eyes met mine as I saw that weird look of guilt filling them once more as I followed the Alpha blindly. Stepping out into the dark night, I could see people gathered at the bonfire just down the hill. Everyone seemed to be in the partying spirit, as they all mingled and danced amongst one another. I let Alpha Kassius lead me towards a quieter part of the forest as a few of his men seemed to be standing not that far off. That's when I began to feel weird. Looking around, I realized I didn't see any of our warriors close by, but maybe they were inside enjoying the festivities. "Now, you have to understand Lumi, none of us expected this to happen. So you can't blame Flynn for ignoring you. He just knows not to cross me. And the moment I saw you, f**k. I knew." He began, making me look at him in confusion as I felt his grip on my arm tighten. 'Lumi something is wrong. We shouldn't have followed him out here.' Cascadia rushed, causing all of my senses to go on high alert as my breathing began to deepen. "Little beaty, aren't you going to ask me what I knew?" Alpha Kassius asked, making me swallow hard as I tried to pull my arm back, feeling his grip only intensify. "I think we should go back." I rushed, hearing branches breaking all around us as my heart began to race. "Fine, I will just tell you then." Alpha Kassius sighed, seeming annoyed that I wasn't playing this game with him. "I knew little Lumi, that you would be mine." Alpha Kassius stated darkly, the tone of his voice sending a chill down my spine as I looked up at him with wide eyes. 'Lumi, where are you?!' My father's voice echoed through my mind, making me freeze as the sound of screaming came from up by the lodge. "What is happening?! What are you doing?" I rushed, trying to yank free of this Alpha as fear shot through me. "I'm taking what belongs to me. And you little beauty, belong to me." The Alpha growled, his eyes glowing red as I felt his body crash against me. The feel of his lips forcing themselves on me made bile climb up the back of my throat as I tried to push him away. "Get off of me!" I shouted, letting my wolf rush forward and lend me her strength as I shoved the Alpha with all my might. The impact had him staggering back as I watched his eyes spark with excitment. "Oh I love a good chase. And you my little beauty, will be fun to chase. And when I catch you, you will wish I hadn't." He smirked, the wickedness in his voice causing my feet to start moving as the sounds of screaming grew louder. 'Dad! Where are you?!' I rushed, crashing through the branches before breaking out of the isolated forest Alpha Kassius had led me into. 'Hide Lumi, they have us surrounded. You need to get to safety now. They brought more wolves with them.' Oh dear goddess. I raced towards the lodge, not doing as my father asked when I felt the Alpha's presence growing closer and closer behind me. 'Faster Lumi!' Cascadia rushed, making me turn just past the lodge when I went crashing into something hard. The sparks that shot through my body caused my head to spin as two arms wrapped around me. "I'm sorry Lumi. I'm so f*****g sorry. I should've taken you away from here the moment I arrived." My mate rushed, his arms practically crushing me as he buried his face in the crook of my neck as warm ragged breaths brushed against my skin. "Y-you're crushing me. Please." I choked, feeling the desperation behind my mates hold as I tried to wriggle myself free. "My family, something is wrong. I need to go to them." "You were supposed to be mine. The moon goddess made you for me. Why did she have to make you so perfect? Now he wants you for himself. I won't let him have you. I can't." My mate choked out, his head pulling back before he stared down at me with tear filled eyes. Before I could even take a second to breathe, I felt my mate's lips crash to mine. This kiss so much more intense than the one the Alpha had just forced onto me. The sparks that exploded across my flesh caused a deep gutteral moan to tumble out of me as I almost forgot what was going on around me until the hairs on the back of my neck stood straight up. 'He found us.' Cascadia rushed, the panic in her voice so clear as my eyes widened in shock. Oh no... "Take your filthy hands off of her. NOW!"
