Garrett was not sure how well Bliss would handle the journey so he kept the pace at a canter. He tried to send the other men ahead, but of course, Levi refused. The rest followed orders without protest. It put Garrett a bit at ease to have the others check that the route was clear since they were using a road not heavily traveled. They had to stay away from main roads in case Lord Richard sent his guards after them. He also planned to do a bit of backtracking to throw them off the trail so they would be taking the longer route regardless.
