Chapter 6: Good Morning

1631 Words
DAPHNE lowered her head when she saw her husband’s car outside her workplace. He had been waiting for her there for a while now. She had already told the coworker who left earlier to tell him she had gone home. But it seemed he didn’t believe her. He still stayed. “What are you doing?” Amelie teased when she saw her in that position. “He won’t leave,” she said, referring to her husband. Her friend also peeked to take a look at her husband. “He really won’t. I told him you’re still here.” She stood up properly and faced her friend after hearing that. “So that’s why.” She had been hiding all this time, and it turned out her friend told him she was still there. What a waste of effort hiding. “Why are you hiding from baby?” she laughed. She had told her about BK’s endearment during their heated moment. Even the last thing that happened between her and her husband, so now her friend was teasing her nonstop. “You’re unbelievable. You’re no fun to be around!” She marched toward her locker and grabbed her bag. She wasn’t really upset or mad. Her friend knew she wasn’t serious. “How many moans did you make, baby?” Daphne shut her eyes tight hearing her friend’s voice again. “You’re too much! I’m never telling you anything again!” “No, you are! You’re the one who’s too much, Daph! You’re so detailed when you tell stories that’s why I still can’t stop laughing. Next time you do the deed, don’t be so detailed, okay?” Her friend laughed again. Fine. That was her mistake. She should’ve just shortened it. She forgot how nuts her friend was. She had been ready for a while now. She just couldn’t leave because BK was outside. He didn’t even call to say he was coming. He just suddenly showed up. It had been over a week since their steamy encounter. She felt drained after that scene. And she was terribly embarrassed about what she and BK did. Why did she give in to him anyway? Now look. She sighed several times before going out. Her husband straightened up when he saw her. He met her with a smile. She couldn’t dodge when he greeted her with a kiss, so their lips met briefly. And he was clearly used to her lips already and didn’t even feel shy anymore. “BK,” she covered his face when he tried to kiss her again. “We’re outside, come on!” “What? I’m just practicing, right?” “I didn’t say to do it in public. It’s embarrassing.” He turned serious. “So you’re embarrassed of me?” “That’s not what I meant. I just might become the center of gossip tomorrow. That’s all.” She left him and went to the passenger seat. “Well?” she asked. He was still just standing there. “Why don’t you just quit your job,” “Oh my god, BK! We’ve talked about that already!” He pouted. “Okay,” he said and finally walked to the driver’s seat. She was buckling up when he spoke. “Here.” She looked at the envelope he was holding. She stared at it and began to wonder. “W-what’s that?” She hoped it was what she thought. “Your papers. You can leave for Norway anytime.” She quickly grabbed what he was holding and looked through it. Her eyes widened for real when she saw it. It was true! She could leave even today. “s**t, BK! I could hug you for this right now!” she said happily, looking at him again. “Just a hug?” he asked. “Yup. Just go get your kisses from your girl. Maybe she’ll give you more than kisses,” she said and looked back at the papers. She scanned them one by one again. She didn’t notice BK’s frown. They were already on the road when she glanced at him. He looked serious now. She couldn’t help but wonder what she did to make him that way. “Where do you want to eat?” He was still serious. “On a plate?” she joked, but he just gave her a sharp look. “Anywhere’s fine.” She crossed her arms, hugged the envelope, and closed her eyes. She had no one to talk to, so she might as well pretend to sleep. She opened her eyes when BK stopped the car. She didn’t recognize where they were. When he got out, she followed. She didn’t wait for him to open the door. He wasn’t even in the mood. She kind of regretted agreeing to come. The food was so expensive! They should’ve just gone for fast food. BK ordered for her because she didn’t know what any of the dishes were. She grimaced when the waiter arrived. Just beefsteak? That was the first one served. Good thing more came after. She was about to get her steak when BK slapped her hand away. “What?” “I’ll cut it for you.” He took the steak and started cutting it. She just stared at him. Good thing his gentlemanly side kicked in. He then cut his own. “How many days will you stay in Norway?” he asked while eating steak. She frowned. “Not days, BK. I might stay there for months.” “That’s too long.” He set his utensils down and faced her. “To be honest, I don’t even know where to start, BK. I don’t know anything. I’m just holding on to my surname.” “F*ck! It’s like you’re going through the eye of a needle with this search.” She nodded sadly. She looked at him. “That’s why I really need money.” “Money’s not a problem, Daph. I already prepared it.” She gave him a small smile. “Thank you so much, BK. If it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t be fulfilling my long-time dream. Don’t worry, I’ll do well with this act so you can also do everything you want. You can count on me to support you no matter what it is,” she said sincerely. Her husband just nodded. He didn’t say anything. Just like before, BK turned serious again. Meanwhile, she felt happy—at last, she would get to see her father. Finally, she could ask why he had left them. As soon as they got home, she called her mother. But it seemed like her mom wasn’t happy. Her replies were clearly forced. Maybe she didn’t want to talk about anything related to her dad. She was about to go into her room when she saw BK carrying some liquor. Their eyes met for a moment. He was the first to look away. It seemed like BK had a problem. Why else would he be drinking? And he was acting serious, too. She didn’t waste time. She said goodbye at work, saying she was leaving. There was no contract signed anyway since it was technically just part-time. They based salaries on login records in the system. She also said goodbye to BK’s mom. She told her the truth, and she and BK agreed to tell his parents so they’d understand why she’d be gone for a long time. Daphne smiled as she packed the last batch of clothes she had folded. They were quite thick because of Norway’s current climate. She looked toward the door when she heard the lock turn. It seemed like it was about to open. And she was right—it opened, and there was BK. “You’re done?” He looked sadly at her, then at the two suitcases. “Yes.” She smiled at him as she sat across from him. The luggage was between them at that moment. “Take care there. Don’t forget everything I told you.” “Please. I’m just staying there for a few months, not years. You be careful bringing your girl here. Your mom might catch you.” His expression changed. “I will,” he just said. He took the suitcase and put it down by her bed. He even struggled a bit because it was heavy. “Thanks,” she told him. He stood up after a while and told her he was heading out. Said he and his friends were going to a bar. BK would probably go chasing girls again. That was fine—even if he wanted a bunch of girls. As long as he was happy, she’d be happy too. She was really happy today, and it’d be unfair if he wasn’t. Who was she to complain? She quickly gave him a thumbs-up. He just gave a faint smile. He also reminded her to wake him up the next day because he’d be the one to take her to the airport. The next morning, she woke up early to wake BK. But he wasn’t in his room. She went downstairs. She smiled when she saw BK preparing food. She walked up to him but it seemed he didn’t notice, so she thought of playing a prank. She was just about to surprise him when he suddenly turned around and kissed her on the lips. She couldn’t help but widen her eyes at what he did. They had done that before, but she still wasn’t used to it. “Good morning,” he greeted her with a smile as he let go of her lips. Good thing she brushed her teeth before leaving the room. Otherwise, he would’ve tasted and smelled her morning breath.
