“What’s wrong?” Vito asked as I walked outside the room.
“Nothing. Can we go home now?” I didn’t want to talk about what had just happened.
“We’ll have to wait for Damon first. I think she broke up with him. He is out making arrangements for someone else to look after her for the moment.”
We sat for a few more minutes before Damon arrived with two other men. They looked familiar. I had seen them at the stash house the last time I went there.
“They’ll watch her. Let’s go home.” I followed Damon and Vito out of the hospital. We got into the car and drove off to the house.
I couldn’t help but wonder how Damon was feeling about the whole situation. “Are you good?” I asked him.
“No, but I’ll be fine. I just want to give her some space. I’ll check up on her later.”
