Chapter 12

Bree went back to the convention hall. It took her minutes to contemplate whether she should go back or just go home. But her colleagues would be surprised if she suddenly disappeared from the party. So she decided to go back, she would just avoid her boss so she wouldn't feel uncomfortable. Jackson was already finished with his speech when Bree returned. The soft music played by a group of musicians could be heard. The event was star-studded, and Bree would always remember this night. A group of wealthy businessmen were laughing happily as they talked to a famous actor. They all looked so elegant and they talked with dignity. Bree wondered what it felt like to be born with a silver spoon in your mouth. “Bree!” Bree was lost in her deep thoughts when she heard her name. When she looked at who called her, it was Renz. A big grin was etched on his lips, he was happy with what Bree was wearing. He approached Bree and looked her up and down. Most of the time, Bree would feel awkward and uneasy if a man looked at her with appreciation. But she didn't feel that with Renz. Whenever he looked at her, his eyes only reflected adoration, not lust. Bree felt like she was remembering her older brother, Elmer, he was kind and gentlemanly. “Wow! You look good in that dress! The blue color I chose for you was perfect.” “You're really kind to me, and please don't be loud, Sir Renz, someone might hear you,” Bree said softly. She looked around to make sure no one else heard their conversation. The man laughed loudly at her reaction. Renz found Bree very adorable. Of all the women in the company, she was the only one who didn't show any motives towards him. She was innocent, and he liked her for being reserved. Unlike other women who almost offered themselves to him. Not that Renz didn't want to have a taste, he just found it annoying when they became clingy and jealous after spending a very hot night together. “So, am I your dirty little secret now?” He grinned and raised his eyebrows. Bree scratched her head when Renz said that, “That's not what I meant, Sir Renz,” “I'm just kidding, Bree. But seriously, you really look stunning tonight, Bree. I'm glad you wore the dress. Thank you.” “Sir Renz, I should be the one thanking you, you're so kind. It's embarrassing,” “Nah, don't mention it. Anyway, did you enjoy the party? Miss Cindy said there's an after-party at a bar. Mr. Samaniego said all employees can go. Come with us, okay? It's a high-end bar so you don't have to worry.” He winked at Bree before excusing himself to talk to someone else. Bree let out a breath. Should she go to the bar? Even if she didn't want to go, she was sure Chelle would force her. “Whatever,” Bree didn't leave her colleagues. They were happily chatting. Chelle and Miss Cindy joined them. They were all talking about the celebrities they saw at the gala. Bree was just listening to them. Sometimes she joined the conversation, but she spent more time being quiet. She couldn't get what happened in the washroom out of her mind. Remembering those moments, Bree felt her heart race, and images of Jackson Samaniego filled her mind. Bree remembered how he looked her up and down and his fiery eyes that were fixed on her. Bree looked around, her eyes searching for one person. Bree's world seemed to stop when she saw what she was looking for. Jackson Samaniego was standing next to Elise Trinidad, talking to a wealthy businessman. But what made Bree's heart beat faster was his intense gaze at her. Elise was beside Jackson, but his eyes were on her! And he didn't seem to be listening to the man he was talking to. Bree blushed and looked down. She smiled at Jandro, who was happily talking to his co-workers. Has he been looking at me this whole time? One part of Bree's brain asked. Does Sir Jax like me? It asked again. Hah! Your hair is so long, what? The other part of Bree's mind answered. Bree let out a heavy sigh and didn't look back at Jackson again. She wouldn't entertain the whispers of her mind, and she wouldn't give meaning to his gaze. That was better for Bree. It was also better that she had been transferred to another department because she didn't think she could do her job well if she was always facing her boss, and she might just make him angrier. Bree didn't look for her boss again until the party was over. “Come with us, please! We're so lucky because this is the first time Sir Jax agreed to have an after-party with us, and he's even paying for it!” Chelle made a puppy-eye look to appear cute. “Fine, you look like an i***t,” Bree said, laughing. Bree couldn't do anything else and just went along. They rode in Renz's car. The rest of their colleagues went to a different bar. They chose Spartan. It was actually Renz's suggestion. Bree was amazed when they reached Spartan. It was almost midnight, so there were a lot of people inside. The lights were blinding, and the music made the whole place a mess. They immediately got a seat inside. The waiter told them they could order anything, it was Jackson's order. “Wow! Sir Jax is so generous now, his behavior is really different.” Chelle brought her face closer to Bree's because she couldn't hear her voice because of the loud music. “Miss Cindy, do you know why Sir Jackson seems so nice now?” It was Jandro. Jandro was one of the employees who had been working at Diamond Entertainment for a long time, so he knew the boss's personality. Now he was surprised because of the sudden change in his behavior. Miss Cindy looked at Jandro emotionlessly. She just shrugged before speaking, “Mr. Samaniego is a kind person. You wouldn't get promoted if Jackson wasn't kind.” Jandro just scratched his head at her answer. Bree actually enjoyed her time at the bar. Renz kept ordering, so Bree felt like she was already drunk. She wasn't used to drinking alcohol, only occasionally when there was an occasion. Chelle was already wreaking havoc on the dance floor. Bree knew she was already drunk by the way she was dancing. Chelle was dancing without reserve on the dance floor. The others were there too. Only Miss Cindy and Bree remained at their table. Bree closed her eyes when she felt her head spin. It seemed she had had too much to drink. She doesn't have that much alcohol tolerance. Bree leaned back against the sofa's backrest and let herself recover from the dizziness. Suddenly, Bree felt her hair stand on end. She felt the same thing earlier. Without any hesitation, Bree opened her eyes. She didn't move from leaning against the sofa. Through her blurry vision, Bree saw the silhouette of a man standing next to her. She blinked a couple of times to clear her vision! But it was still the same! Was she that drunk to hallucinate like this? Bree raised her hand and waved it in front of her. Dizzy and blurry eyes, not a good combination. Bree waved her hand even more, but the man's silhouette didn't disappear. “Hello po, manong? What are you doing there? Are you a waiter here, manong? Wait, my friends aren't here yet.” When the man didn't speak, Bree sat up straight. Her blurry vision gradually became clearer. And when she recognized the person she just called "manong," to say she was shocked was an understatement. The alcohol in her blood suddenly flew away when she saw that Jackson Samaniego was standing in front of her, and she called him "manong"!
