Lara
As soon as I entered the cave, I was blown away by how spacious the interior of the cavern was. The most appealing thing about the cave though was that it was spacious but at the same time, it was cosy.
“Could you imagine us holing up in here during winter?” Phoenix asked, sounding excited by the idea.
“You do realise if we were in here during winter, there would be no blankets, and no heat,” I replied.
“Who says we couldn’t bring some blankets up here and make this place homey,” she retorted, poking her tongue out at me.
“Phoenix, if we tried to do that, someone would see us and become suspicious about it,” I explained.
“Oh, come on, live a little. We can be sneaky. If anyone could manage to sneak some things to make this place a home up here, it would be you. I know you could do it! Can you, do it? Please?” Phoenix whined, reminding me of a little kid pleading for a candy bar.
“You seriously want to live up here? Away from the pack?” I asked her.
“Yes! What has the pack ever done for us? Besides, I am over your father trying to turn us into his own personal slaves? We spend our days working our butts off for an ungrateful man. Things used to be bad enough the way they were, but now he has us terrified each day, waiting to see if we are going to be put into a challenge with the Omegas and torn to pieces. That is no way to live Lara. We deserve to be free, you know we do,” she replied.
I thought about what she had said and realised that Phoenix was right. I was on borrowed time now that I knew my father and Tiffany’s secret. To keep his secret, my father could have me killed at any time.
“Exactly! At least up here, we would be free. We would also be safe,” Phoenix said, sounding like what she was saying was the most logical thing in the world.
“Okay, fine. If you think moving up here would be the best thing, we will start working on making it happen, okay?” I replied.
“Yay! I knew you would see sense!” she declared happily.
“You do realise this is going to take time, right? We won’t be moving up here tomorrow,” I explained to her.
“But we will get up here. That’s the main thing. We will have this space all to ourselves,” Phoenix declared.
Thinking about that, I asked, “Won’t we get lonely?”
Phoenix paused to think about what I had asked. Then she said, “You know, I hadn’t really thought about that.”
“Well, maybe we should think about that. Plus, what about Heidi? Don’t you think she will miss us if we leave? You might want to think about that too,” I replied. “And now, I think that it’s time we head back before our father realises, we are missing and sends out a search party. That would really put us on his s**t list,” I added.
“Oh, no. Come on Lara, we don’t want to go back there. You know we don’t,” Phoenix whined.
“Look, I know you don’t like it back there. I can assure you that the Moon Goddess knows I don’t like it there either. But we need to prepare ourselves to move up here. We need provisions. We need to be smart about this,” I told her.
“I know. I understand,” she conceded, letting go of her argument for staying up here on the mountain.
We started heading back towards the entrance of the cave. Once I reached the entrance, I looked around, making sure that we were alone, then I crept out of the cave and began making our way back down the mountain. As soon as we reached the base of the mountain, we began racing back towards the packs Omega accommodations. I wanted to see if Heidi had finished her shift in the kitchens yet. I hadn’t gotten to spend much time with her yesterday since I fell asleep and I was feeling bad about that.
We were a good distance from home, so it was an excellent opportunity for us to race as fast as we could and stretch our legs. When we reached the spot near Heidi’s where I had shifted into wolf form earlier that morning, I shifted back into my human form and got dressed. Once I was dressed, I made my way inside heading to Heidi’s bedroom.
When I opened my bedroom door and entered Heidi’s room, I stopped in my tracks when I saw my father sitting on the edge of Heidi’s bed. He looked up and saw me standing in the doorway and demanded, “Where the hell have you been?”
“I went for a run, father I replied quietly.
“A run?” he asked, looking at me like I was the biggest liar he knew.
“Yes Sir,” I replied.
“In your wolf form?” he asked, narrowing his eyes at me.
“Yes, in my wolf form,” I replied, wondering where this interrogation was going.
“Well, if you were in your wolf form, why didn’t you respond to my attempts to call you?” he asked, standing up and taking a step towards me.
“I didn’t realise you were trying to contact me. I didn’t hear you. Honestly, I didn’t,” I explained.
He narrowed his eyes, giving me a quick once over before locking eyes with me once more. The look on his face told me that he didn’t believe me. Not for a second.
“You need to go home right now. You have chores to do,” he stated, giving me a cold look.
“Okay, I will go home and have a shower, and then I will get started on my chores,” I replied.
He was silent for a minute, then he nodded and said, “Fine, let’s go.”
With that, he walked out of the room, motioning for me to follow him. Once we were outside of the room, he closed the door behind us. I quickly followed him back to our house and raced to my bedroom. I began getting ready for my shower. Once I was done having my shower, I quickly got dressed and walked downstairs to begin my chores.
