Chapter 1

Lara I was scrubbing the bath tub in the downstairs bathroom of the house I lived in with my father. The pack referred to our home as the Alpha residence. Ever since my mother’s death, I had been handed the responsibility of maintaining our home. I was cleaning the downstairs bathroom when I heard a noise. I was startled by the noise because I had been told that I would be the only person in the house today. My father had said that he was going to be busy and out of the house most of the day. Wanting to make sure everything was okay, I stood up from where I was kneeling beside the bath tub and went to investigate. I walked down the hallway trying to find the source of the noise. Following the noise, I found myself standing in the doorway of the laundry. My eyes were undoubtedly bugging out of their sockets at the sight before me. I knew I should leave, but I couldn’t. It was like I was frozen on the spot. There in the laundry was my father and he was naked. In front of him, sitting on top of the washing machine naked as the day she was born, was Tiffany Clark, the packs Beta female. Tiffany and my father were having s*x like it was the most natural thing in the world. They didn’t seem to be concerned about getting caught in the act. I wondered what would happen if Beta Scott, Tiffany’s mate, were to walk in on them right now. I put my hand to my mouth as I watched them in total shock. Suddenly my father turned his head and saw me standing in the doorway. As realisation that there was a witness to their little indiscretion sank in, he stopped moving and watched me. Tiffany, still caught up in the moment, opened her eyes and asked, “Babe, why’d you stop?” when she realised that my father wasn’t looking at her, she looked to where he was looking and seen me standing there in the doorway. “What the hell are you doing here?” she screeched in horror. “I live here, what are you doing here? And screwing a man who is not your fated mate I might add,” I responded, arching an eyebrow at her. “Are you really going to let her speak to me like that?” she screeched out, turning to my father who was grinning at her. Without answering, I turned to walk away, but my father’s voice stopped me in my tracks, “You were not dismissed, Lara.” I looked to where he was standing, and he had an evil grin on his face, “Why don’t you just stand there and observe. You will learn something,” he said, making Tiffany cackle with laughter. “Yeah, you might learn enough to make your fated mate want to stay with you. That is if the Moon Goddess saw fit to give you a mate,” Tiffany cackled like she was some kind of wicked witch. My father began moving again, and soon Tiffany had thrown her head back and was moaning in pleasure. I was glad that she was no longer focusing on me. I wanted to leave, but I knew making my father angry would be a big mistake. So, I just stood there, not moving and every now and then my father would look over at me to make sure I was watching just like he had told me too. When he had finished, he stepped back from Tiffany and she hopped down from the washing machine and quickly pulled her clothes on. She leaned in and kissed my father, saying, “Thanks for that, lover,” before she turned to me. Pointing her finger in my face, she hissed, “If you know what’s good for you, you will keep your mouth shut.” With that, she bounced out of the laundry and a moment later, I heard the front door slam shut. My father was still standing in front of me. He casually pulled on a pair of black sweat pants and said, “So, did you enjoy the show just now?” I didn’t know what to say to that. I mean, he was my father for crying out loud. It was sick. Plus, I didn’t enjoy the embarrassment he had just subjected me too. But if I was to say that to him, how would it affect my position within this household, let alone, this pack? Would I be punished? Would I be banished? I had no idea. I didn’t want to jeopardise myself, so I just said to him, “How would you like me to answer that father?” “Why, honestly, of course,” he replied, that same evil grin upon his face. “And if I answer you honestly, then what? I get locked up in a cell? Or maybe you banish me from the pack? Or, are you planning on putting me in the challenge with the next lot of Omegas you decide to kill for your own amusement?” I replied sharply. “What do you take me for?” he asked, laughing at me. “You are so paranoid, aren’t you?” he asked. “You really need to relax. All that tension, it can’t be good for you,” he added. Not wanting to be in this room any more, I turned around and began to walk back to where I had been in the process of cleaning the bath tub in the downstairs bathroom. As soon as I got back to the bathroom, I knelt down and went back to scrubbing the bath tub. My father had followed me into the bathroom and after a moment he said, “I guess no one ever taught you that you don’t turn your back on an Alpha,” he said, watching me from the doorway. “What you choose to do is your own business dad. If you want to beat me for turning my back on you, then it isn’t likely I could stop you, is it?” I replied. “Damn straight it is. If you say anything about what you saw in this house today, I promise you, you will not live to regret it,” he retorted. “I won’t say anything. Why would I? If word got out, then the only one who would be hurt is Beta Scott,” I told him. “You had better not say anything. The last thing I need is an issue with my Beta,” he replied, before finally walking away and leaving me alone in the bathroom. As I continued to clean the bath tub, I couldn’t help thinking about how devastated poor Beta Scott would be if he were to ever discover Tiffany’s betrayal. He wouldn’t be hearing it from me though. I had enough to deal with without getting involved in my father and the Beta’s business. Scrubbing as if my life depended on it, I set about finishing the cleaning of the bathroom. This was the bathroom that guests used whenever my father was entertaining so it was imperative that it remained clean. When I had finished cleaning the house, I went back to visit my best friend, Heidi. Heidi was an Omega, but she was my escape from my home situation. She was the one who made me laugh and helped me to forget. I loved the time I got to spend with her. Going to visit her now would be a welcome distraction from what I had just learned about my father and Tiffany.
