CHAPTER 02: Shocked, But Not Surprised     VICTORIA’S P. O. V.     Hindi rin nagtagal at nakarating na kami sa pag-aaring mansion ni Don Julio. Although, I’ve been here countless of times, but I’ve never met his son. Don Julio concluded that his son had the same attributes as him. I mean, for a person at my stand, I often see those people with firearms kapag may gulo o giyera. As we entered the gate, halo-halo na ang emosyon ko. Don Julio always brags his son to me. Na his son is academically capacitated, street-smart, charming, good looking, brawny, charismatic, and the next “Don Julio” if he passes away. Lahat naman tayo ay mamamatay. Ever hour, minute, or second that the world revolves, one of us will die and will be born. It is a cycle called life. Bago niyo ako husgahan at tawaging kabit o malandi, Don Julio’s previous wife is already deceased. Na tegi na po. She’s Donna. Namatay siya due to ovarian cancer. Ovarian cyst ‘yun at first and in due time naging ovarian cancer na. It took Don Julio to heal his heart for at least 10 years. Yes, you’ve read it right. In that ten years, he’d never mingle nor have an affair to anyone. Don Julio focuses on his wealth and his distillery. May ubasan siya and not a claim, but a fact na siya ang may masarap na wine na aking natikaman and also, globally. Don Julio ensures the quality over quantity of his product. And that’s the secret of his wealth and success. “Thanks,” pabebe kong sabi. “Anything for my darling,” magalang niyang saad. My back is burning, someone is staring me from afar. “Is there any problem?” tanong niya. “No-Nothing,” iling kong sagot. “There must be. “Fe-Feeling ko kasi, may tumitingin sa akin sa malayuan,” “It must be the guards. They’re the one’s I’m only seeing behind,” tumango ako para wala ng tanong pa. “Should we enter now?” dagdag pa ni Don Julio. “Oh, yes, please,” mabilis akong napatango. Yes, Don Julio had his own unique styles. And he’s right. No one should meddle to your decision when you know what’s best for you. Few steps and we are at the living room. The modernish yet aesthetic style of it is eyegasm. A two hundred ninety-two sized flat screen television sa center part, beside it is a well-organized shelves of books. Don Julio is also a nature lover, a nerd, he’s generous enough to buy expensive flowers and ornaments to make his mansion homey yet the elegance is sensible and visible. Not to mention that his mansion is built in a three-storey way. “Where is he?” bulong niya sa hangin. “Who?” ang aking tanong. “My son,” napatango ako. “Didn’t he come yet?” tanong ni Don Julio. Ikinailing naman ito ni Ameila. “That bastard,” tiim-bagang sabi niya. “Call him, Ameila and tell him to come here quick,” utos ni Don Julio. “What’s wrong, Don Julio?” nag-aalala kong tanong. “Nothing. I’m just disappointed to my son. He became this rebellious ever since he broke up with his previous girl before. Which is kasalanan naman niya dahil hindi marunong makuntento sa isa. God knew that when I was in my son’s age, the word playboy won’t be best to describe me,” napabuntong hininga siya. Hinaplos ko ang kaniyang likod. “It’s okay, Don Julio. Wala naman tayong minamadali ‘di ba? And also, this night, you’re not in a meeting. Loosen up and chill, a’right?” hinagkan ko siya sa pisngi. “Thanks, darling,” kinindatan ko siya. “It would be best if maupo muna tayo while we kill the time waiting for your son,” “Aw. For being so considerate,” inilapit ni Don Julio ang mukha niya sa akin. “When the lights are off, and when the clock ticks at midnight, Don Julio will give you a recompence,” Habang nasa ganoong posisyon kami ay narinig namin ang mabibigat na yabag papalapit sa amin. “Dad! I’m here—” namilog ang aking mata ang ganoon din siya. Oh no! Please don’t tell me!
