CHAPTER 23: THE TRAITORS WHO SEEK HELP   At dawn, Ali decided to leave, he was off on his journey, although Lily still had this worried look on her face. As if she isn’t as certain and sure about him going for the Kingdom’s help.   “I will be alright.” He smiled at her, reassuring the latter no matter how much she shook her head off.   “Just promise me to come back.” She was frowning deeply.   “I will come back, Lily.” Ali walked closer to her. “I promise.” And when it was just an inched apart, he lowered his head and planted a soft lingering kiss on her forehead. She may not, nor he begging for footnotes on each other’s life, but Ali exactly knew that he won’t be able to suppress himself from rooting towards the dream that won’t happen even once. He was covered in her. The years where she buried hatches on his soul that nobody else did.   But they couldn’t be. He may have been a rogue, but Ali had a mate. If he risked now for something unsure, it would just both scarred him and Lily, especially the person who had been destined to him.   He keep his distance apart afterwards.   “Goodbye, Lily.” He smiled at her.   It was as if this kind of goodbye, where the story should be over, but both of them are still writing the pages over and over again. To part ways with her left a pang, but it is much better.   The moment he turned his back, reality had drawn towards Ali.   Lily is not made for him, and he isn’t fated to her.   Wit that thought in mind, he left, and leaving means ending what mutually begins with them.   On the other hand, Lily watched his back turned. She keep her eyes until Ali’s silhouette disappeared from her sight.   It saddened her. She isn’t oblivious about the kiss, and that goodbye he uttered with meaning.   A tug on the hen of her cloak made her head to glance at her side.   “Will help really come to us, Miss?” It was the same child yesterday.   Unbeknownst to the sickness she had been struck with, but she looks much better unlike yesterday. Her paling cheeks and almost drained face she couldn’t fathom—ghostly white in colour as she appeared sick, drained of blood and her chapped lips didn’t help at all. She was breathing heavily—running after, chasing after the life, which is slowly slipping away from her grasp. It was as if she were fighting the will to live, and it was becoming harder. More difficult. More adherently the struggle she fought after.   But today, she seems normal. Her breathe is even. The normal complexion she had came back. She looks pale, but not sick. And what more, she was smiling innocently as she look at her.   Lily bent lower to level her eyes with her.   “My friend will, Evan.” Lily return her smile and softly crumpled her hair.   The latter giggles.   Evan haven’t had her wolf yet. She was a pup at the age of 18, and commonly wolves as far as Lily could remember, they often get them when they either reach their 15th or their 18th. If not, there could be two things possible why—they are a runt, or they do not actually have a wolf, technically getting them the rank of an omega. Lily isn’t in favour about the rankings. It was cruel, but given the fact, wolves are known to be more domineering unlike the coven, which she came from. It was always about being strong. The story revolves around the strongest who could withstand the storm in the forest. They fought to defend their pack, even until death make them fall hard on their feet or their head be rip.   “Can he come back bringing some sweets too?” She sounded hopeful.   To see her being childish like this for her age, and not whimpering horribly on her bed made her chest swelled with enthusiasm.   “He will be. I’m sure Ali will bring you lots of.” In a reassuring tone, she said. “But first let’s take a look to some of your friend her, shall we?”   The latter nodded and so they made a detour.   A lot of the wolves are still sick. But mostly, it was the older who age for a hundredth or on their 50th were the one who usually complain. Their stomach hurts, and it was like their chest are being carve by knives they are unable to see. Lily could tell that the symptoms were similar into being poisoned, however how can she explain the fact that they are also puking blood? Clothed blood, which embarks something more and much deeper unknown to her. The sight is sickening, and it made her frustrated that she had the ability to help, but she couldn’t do anything at all.   They reached one of the first houses in the village.   As they walked inside, Lily felt her heart being gripped.   “H—help....it hurts...” It was a woman writhing on pain as she didn’t know where to turned her head was.   She looks to be tormented, plunged towards the anguish she could tell is slowly killing her. Beads of sweat loitered and trickled on her forehead. Her lips parted, panting miserably as if to breathe has become something she had bee  struggling with for days.   “Miss....”Evan trailed off.   Lily glanced at her.   “Would it be okay, if you wait outside for a moment, Evan?” Lily softly asked.   “But...would she be okay?” She looks anxious, probably the woman is somebody whom the child had gotten close with.   “I’ll make sure she is.” Or is she still assured at this point?   She didn’t know. Whatever the sickness was—it was moving fast in a pace, where Lily couldn’t trailed off after. The chase is futile, her efforts fruitless and in vain. It was as if something that wouldn’t want itself revealed nor caught.   “Will you promise me that Sofia would be okay, Miss?” Evan continue.   Lily meet her eyes. She was torn. How can she promised something, when she was exactly torn whether she would be able to help and aid her pack? How can she be in ought, when she couldn’t promise much?   Lily forced herself to smile.   “I can’t promise that I’ll heal her, because I still didn’t have any idea the illness that struck your pack, but what I can tell you was that I’ll ease her pain, Evan.” She genuinely said.   “Then that would be enough for me, Miss.” Evan said softly, but she could tell the sorrow in her voice.   She turned her back, sagged shoulders told Lily otherwise. She knew that the child is well aware of, if she is unable to heal Sofia. Same with the corpses they burnt to suppress how worst it could spread among the others, Sofia would end the same fate if her condition prevail.   When it was just her alone. Lily knelt beside the woman and take her pulse.   “Your heart is beating...uncontrollably.” She whispered.   Sofia continue to thrashed her head from left to right.   But it was odd, it was as if her heart would have exploded as it loudly thump and beat in an erratic manner.   Lily just need to find a source.   “E—Evan...” The woman trembled and quivered.   Lily looked at her and squeeze her hand.   “She is alright already.” Assuming that Sofia may had been worried to the child, she said that.   “N—no...enemy....Evan...” She continue.   Lily frowns.   She couldn’t tell what exactly the messages that the woman wanted to rely on her.   “I couldn’t understand.” She admitted. “Are you not worried about Evan?” She added and asked.   “N—no.” She was vigorously shaking now, but she could tell that Sofia is still capable to comprehend what she is speaking of.   “Then enemy—who is the enemy you were talking about?” Lily continued.     But imagined her shock, the horror which flooded through her about what Sofia said next.   “S—she is an enemy...” She gasp, before forcefully opening one of her eyes. It was bloody red, the crimson coloured hue as if even her vision had been clothed by blood. “Evan... E—Evan...poisoned us... N—no trust...she....e—evil.”     “W—what are you trying to say?” It was Lily’s turn to be afraid.   “E—Evan...she’s evil...” Right before Sofia heaved a deep breathe as the suffering cease.   Her breathing lessen, her hand fell, and so her suffering seems to slowly vanish.   “Sofia...?” Lily trailed off.   The truth she speak of, she couldn’t tell whether she should believed it or not. But one thing which Lily is certainly sure of was that fact that the woman is dead.     “She’s dead...”Disbelief were written all over her face.   Why is it happening to her...to them? And Evan—the child she save from the pit of them, was she really an enemy at fault for what the entire village are plunged into?   Right off at that moment, Lily heard a call that bring her back to the present, and all the thoughts she had drown deeply at the back of her head.   “Miss...?” It was Evan who had been calling for her attention.   Although, Lily is still torn, for no apparent reason, she felt afraid, and there’s this shudder, which run across her spine. It was chilly. The fear creep before Lily knows about it.   “Why are you not answering, Miss? Did something happened to Sofia?” She sounded more worried than before.   She was just relieved that Evan had not yet decided to went inside the house.   “S—she’s dead, Evan.” She force herself to utter those words, gobbling the lump, which formed in her throat.   “W—what...?!” Before the doors were pushed open.   There came across Evan, whose eyes were slowly getting moist, watering on its own accords. But her eyes weren’t directly trained to her. It was looking, gazing towards the decease woman’s corpse.   “N—no... T—this can’t be...”  She as shaking her head, while Lily keep her eyes closer to her.   “S—sofia...?” The child asked in so much despair.   And Lily had been struck by the thought of how can the woman accuse Evan that she was the one who poisoned them, when by lolling at her, she could terribly felt her sorrow? Her anguish she express, which also made her shed he own eyes. Evan bawled her eyes out, tears streams and gushed on her cheeks. Her wail resounded her howl of pain for the dead, which also gripped her chest.   It was painful to see her cries.   “Evan...” She disregard her fear and joined her.   It was a child. Evan is juts a young girl, and how could have she done something so terrible that Sofia were trying to framed her with? Perhaps, her sickness made her to blame Evan, the child she had been with or so she thought.   Unbeknownst to Lily as engulf her, a strange smile spread across the child’s lips. It was dark, and menacing as if she knew something that she didn’t have any idea about.   When she pulled apart, it vanish as if afraid to be seen.   “It will be alright soon, okay?” Lily cupped her cheeks in manner of coaxing whatever she felt.   She was coaxing her, unaware of the evil which loitered and hid.   “B—but Sofia is dead, Miss.” Evan continue sobbing.   Her eyes she could have sworn to be getting blurry, Lily’s fear and doubt has been replace with pity. She felt sympathy swarming inside her chest, crawling its way for her.   “But I’m sure we would be able to save the others.” She smiled at her in spite of her own pain.   But Evan only nodded her head. Crying her eyes out, weeping for the dead, when in fact the fault lies on the child. The innocent face she wore, which hid the evil plotted the misfortune fret on the village. The corpses which had been buried made her gratified.   Behind those tears, there hide in secrecy a wolf who knows nothing but to kill.   @cycy
