CHAPTER 34: SAFE PLACE, HIS ARMS When Lily woke up, she was burning. Her entire body felt like it was heavy, her eyes blurry, and the eyesight, which doesn’t offered much ahead. She feels different, and on her head, she felt as if there’s something heavy on it, and she could not even lift an arm. Her throbbing temples had only make everything worst. “W-what is happening to me?” Lily was confounded. She felt so much tired, that weariness she have not yet experienced before. As if it was dragging her to never move, tempted to closed her eyes, and be lulled onto the same unfathomable slumber, but she was fighting the urge to. She can’t. She cannot do that now, when the villagers need her as they grew weak each day. She still have a lot to cure, to heal as she prolongs their life, before Ali came back with the help they seek, and sought after. Sluggish arms she forced, Lily was contradicted. It was painful. To move an inch even caused her to gnawed, and bit her bottom lips. Her magic power were even slowly drifting, slipping as it fed from her little by little. Lily was torn. How can she do this alone? Was the disease contagious? Had she gotten herself seek? She haven’t had any idea, but this is odd. When Ali was there, and her as well for days, there no symptoms similar too what the villagers are suffering from. Not even a slightest of hint that it was possible to be transferred, but by how? By touch? She didn’t know, but one thing for sure, she was sick, the same illness, which left her both baffled, and scared. “Evan?” Trailing of, her voice came frail as she calls for the child. When her eyes fluttered open, she was nowhere to be found. It was strange and odd, since she would often woke up with her still lying close, but today, it was different. No souls, no shadows, not even a sound indicating that her presence were there. But perhaps, she had gone outside to make some rounds, and take a look around. With that thought, Lily was trying to convince herself. Not when she heard her voice calling outside. “Miss, are you awake already?” Her soft voice came ringing on her ears. In spite of how difficult it was, Lily opened her mouth to respond. “I—I am here, and I am already awake.” She tried her hardest to make her voice to came out much louder. Lily cough, when Evan’s head appeared on the doorway and stick her head inside. “Are you alright?” She asked, but there’s something on her tone, which Lily couldn’t point out. She shook her head. She might have been imagining things. Her head may have been playing tricks on her again as what it usually does. “I’m not feeling so well.” Lily uttered underneath her breathe. “I may not be able to join you for today.” She added afterwards. She knew she couldn’t. “And you can’t come inside or you’ll get sick too again.” She warned her, but Evan is stubborn, she did not listen to Lily. Before she knew it, she could hear her soft footfalls, the gentle thuds as she came trotting inside, totally ignoring adherent to what she had just told her to be cautious about. “Evan, no—“ But she could not stop her. “It’s alright, I won’t get sick, Miss.” Evan cut her off. Lily frowns. “Why do you sounded so sure?” She asked curiously. “Because I know I wouldn’t be.” She heard her softly laughs. Her footsteps stop, but as it did, Lily knew that she was already inside. “Evan—“ But the moment her eyes landed across to the latter, all the words that she wanted to say vanished, drown towards her throat the more she stared at her. “W—what happened to you?” Lily trailed of. Evan is in a messy state. Something was smeared on her face, she couldn’t see it properly, but Lily could have sworn that it looks red, the crimson colour, which is dripping slowly on her cheeks. Her clothes murk with dirt, and mud as they come clinging. And there’s this smell reeking from the child. Lily’s nose contorted with disgust. It smelt horrible, of something rotten, a flesh or lump of meat spoilt for no apparent reason she couldn’t tell. However, why does…her chest was starting to beat loudly, thumping across as it beats, which made the latter confused. It was as if that prickling sensation on her arms was telling her something, which her body seems to be more aware more than she does. The nervousness combined with anxiety, of fearing into something unseen, and unknown to her. “Is there an attack?” She shook those away, and presumably assumed that somebody may have attack the village, while she was asleep. “No, nobody did, Miss.” Cheekily, Evan answered. “And this? I was just out playing for a hunt. I saw a rabbit, and I decided too patch up my thirst.” “Oh…” Her stomach churned. She had almost forgotten how they fancy the hunt, of devouring flesh meat, and the rawness of it which made their beast alive. It’s just that, Lily isn’t used to seeing them this way, because of Devon. Unlike most wolves, she commonly settled on fruits, and to what she mostly prepare. Cooked meat she consumed alongside with them. “Do you wanted to have a taste too?” Evan asked her. “W—what? No…” Lily refused at the idea, but Evan—she was acting weird of sort. “Don’t worry, Miss.” She giggles. “It was delicious just like them.” She put an emphasis towards the last word. “Them?” Questionably, she couldn’t keep her questions at bay. “Yes, them.” As her eyes meet hers, and so come affront the howls and screams outside the room. It was a lot, and they sounded to be in so much pain. It was something beyond the word, as if they had been put into so much agony, and distress they couldn’t deal with. Lily’s lips quivered as Evan continue smiling, her mouth stretched wide, and she seems unbothered. She lost the innocent eyes used to deceit Lily, what was left was this scary look she couldn’t stand with. It was terrifying. As if Lily was no longer facing a child, but something else. The horrifying truth she couldn’t, nor would she accept. If it was just another dreams, a nightmare to behold, she hope to wake up sooner before it drives her crazy. “Them?” Lily was horrified. “What did you do to them?” Her voice suddenly turned into a higher pitch. Evan laughs, it was maniacal, and insane. “Don’t pretend as if you really care.” And soon the softness of her eyes diminished, it became harsh, she looks mad, the loathsome to which Lily had not expected from the child she cares greatly. She didn’t know what happen, but realization soon drawn to her. What Sofia may have said before was true, it was Evan, she was the culprit, and to what she sai before she died, it wasn’t a disease, nor some kind of sickness, but poison. Evan had poison the whole village! But knowing the truth now is too late. Same with them, Lily could tell that she had been poisoned as well. “Don’t worry, I’ll end your suffering as well.” Reassuring, she grew closer. Lily tried to used her power, and all seems fruitless, her efforts in vain as her magic couldn’t fed off from her strength this time. Her weakening state, which made her unable to deal with what was coming. Left with no choice, Lily closed her eyes, hoping and waiting for somebody to rescue. But most of all, she was only looking forward for one particular male. Ali. On the other hand, in Reinsworth Kinngdom. Casper wasn’t expecting Zachary to charge and attack. He was swift, and agile, but he is a God, which made him avoid every blows and attack he mustered. He could have used his mate as what he can tell, but he isn’t no fool, he did not just became a God for nothing, nor he for being a king known by the vampires, his people. His eyes were blazing with fury, which mirrored his brimming anger. The chaos he fought for, the beast he could tell lash out after being a dormant for so long. The clouds which hovered on the sky that day suddenly morphed turning to its blackish hues, ebony black and grey as they started going downhill. He failed to decipher that he is more than what he can handle. A God in comparable to a King? Impossible! “Damn it!” His playful smile, his mischief finally recoiling as it has been replaced by hissing noises he had produce. Even the creature clinging on the branches made no sound, it fear the most what would had happen if ever found out. Zachary seems like he is ready to destroy the forest by his strength if it means of retrieving back what he had lost. That woman. It was just a relief that it had not lay a hand nor a finger to her, not even a strand, but deems like the God has been put in trouble o for doing what he is supposed to before she get entrapped. “Serves you right.” The creature said, before it crawled back to the darkness, the looming shadows it had devoured again back to where he came from. On the other hand, the fight continues. Zachary was breathing hardly, he was tense, every muscles of his body screamed for revenge. The vengeance his beast, and his animalistic instinct were aiming for. He leapt on the air, bringing forefront his sharp claws and canines. Casper side-step, his eyes ogled, what he failed to noticed was the sudden changes in direction, and so he had not avoided the blow coming from his side. Zachary swung his fist and he did not missed. Trajectory, Casper gasp, he may be a God but that doesn’t mean he feel no pain. Now that he is no his hybrid form. “Arg!” He hold his hurt side as he staggered. But seems like the King isn’t done yet for lashing out, and expressing his wrath. Fortunately, Casper this time was prepared although injured. He raised up his hand, and gestured, the water on the falls to where still the stupefied Devon was standing move in the air. They were raised, and as his punch came, they were parried as the water, crystal and clear in colour hardened. They became ice, but shattered as it made its contact with Zachary’s fist. The latter seems not to be affected or hurt, but as Casper controlled the water before hand to coiled it around him, he pushed himself out from his rage. This made Casper to have some difficulty. “I didn’t know it will go downhill like this.” Casper had a serious expression on his face. He was no longer playing. The mischief vanished, all was left was his firmed face, and hardened vision protruding on his visage. Zachary seems to have become another person, a monstrous beast just like how he had been describe by many. “I let you stay on my land, and that is how you are going to repay me?” Zachary in a dangerous tone uttered. His teeth gnawing, and clashing against each other as he speak. And Casper knew that he won’t him off unscathed and free even if he bargain the woman with him. “I was the one who decided to inhabit inside your kingdom.” Casper said, raising his eyebrows in a calm manner, although he was alert, cautious, burr Zachary were much clever. “Are you?” In just a snap, he suddenly appeared behind him. “How did you—“ Casper twisted her body too turn around, but all happened too fast. Right before he realized, the King was squeezing his throat hardly on his palms. “You are not the one who are making the decisions here in my Kingdom, even if you are a god.” Zachary said. As their eyes meet, Casper finally get to know the feeling of what fear was as he saw that abyss on his orbs, in depth, a much crueller ruler more than Zephyr. Zachary Reinsworth who had afflicted to him what was it feels like to be scared. @cycy
