CHAPTER 42: WAY BACK TO THE DEVONSHIRE KINGDOM
It was much harder than she thought to live in the Kingdom altogether with Soren. That’s what on her perception, because Devon could not even live in peace. Soren was always there, tailing her and doing all means on her power to put her in trouble. The implications told her how much she loathed her existence, and how much she wanted her gone so that she can have Zachary all by herself.
“The nerve of her!” She gritted her teeth, and walk back and forth.
Same as today, she was giving her an eye just because Zachary was speaking to her again, but Devon knew better. He told her that it was about a treaty to where they are going to collude towards another small vampire town. It was Ann accords to connection. Having a wide range of allies could help the Kingdom if in need of help. Set for example if the attacks happened, pertaining towards the events to which they told her took place long before. However, Devon couldn’t remember when.
She haven’t been born that day or perhaps she is, but she may have been much younger. But it was intriguing. Now that everybody seems to know that the dark ages is affiliated with deaths, with many lives taken and stolen. Relieved, that she hadn’t witness any of those. Imagine her shock and fears, and how much trauma she would carry as long as she breathe.
Devon sighs, she paced back and forth, and at that state, that is how Zachary found her.
She wouldn’t realized he was there, if she did not feel his arms, the warmth radiating from his body combine with his natural coldness.
“Are you alright?” He asked, and Devon had gotten used to at how much he would asked her commonly. How are you? Are you bothered? It started when she had been attacked by a God from the Reinsworth forest. He was always there. Bygone for a few moments to attend with his usual duties, and then he will be back on her arms. Honestly, Devon couldn’t asked for more.
He was there, even though she wouldn’t voice out her thoughts. Regardless of not clinging, nor was hesitating whether to ask him about things that mate does, and now here he is. He is not just doing the bare minimum, but he is giving it all, providing in return the affection she needs although she was still shy around him, a bit maybe.
“Nothing.” She smiled at him, and feel how much closer they are from each other. How there is no gap separating the two of them.
Zachary let out a low hum, and ‘stead of buried his face onto the crook of her neck. The sweet scent filled his nostrils, and so was the mate bond and spark which she was quickly dwelled upon. Devon let out a purring noise and sighs with such satisfaction she couldn’t tell.
“I wanted to mark you.” He huskily whispered, and she knew, Devon is no fool how much he was tempted to. But he can’t do that yet. Not because he didn’t want her, but Zachary said that he wanted to earn her affection first, the pureness of her feelings, not because they were bonded. And Devon knew how sincere the latter was.
“I know...” She whispered, and shuddered at the mere touch of his lips against her expose neck.
It gave her an exhilarating sensation, the adrenaline running as she felt its softness. Unknowingly clenching her first as she clings on his arms, which is rather place, circling around her stomach. She gulps the lump and suppress the groan she might have uttered. Devon suddenly felt hot, something that won’t be easily subdued when Zachary began locking that sensitive part.
“But that doesn’t mean I couldn’t have a taste of you, haven’t I?” The hotness of his breathe against her skin made her toes curled up, and she’s no fool, nor was she a stranger to this feeling.
“Z—Zach...”Devon calls, when he trailed off his tongue back and forth on that part.
It’s way back too much. A groan escape unintentionally and so was before she knew, Devon’s back was already on the walls as Zachary straddled her. His lips on hers as it dance into a flaming affection, intimacy that was brimming, and an overwhelming feeling that was filling her stomach and chest with so many butterflies. They flew, stretching their wings apart, and wide as they did. His hand caressed her torso. Their orbs closed, shut down as they drown towards where they at—at the moment. Lost in paradise towards one another’s hold they are drinking from. It was like both of them are feeding from the love they could provide for each other. It was too deep, as if they had been together for so long that they could remember.
Breathless, when they pulled apart.
“You taste sweet.” That’s what Zachary said.
His eyes are so much darker, it was suggesting that it wanted more than the kiss, losing the control but he manage to take a grasp of himself before he lost it entirely.
Their chest fall in synch.
Devon wrapped her arms around his nape to look at him. She bring her palms to caressed his face.
“You taste sweeter.” She chuckled, teasing him slightly.
“I am?” The latter softly laughs. “Don’t worry, I can gave you another taste, if you would like, but I think we should stop here for a moment no matter how much I wanted to continue where we had gone from.”
“And why is that?” She asked, while taking pleasure of tracing his sharp jaw to which Zachary released a sighs of satisfaction.
“Because we have a Kingdom to visit.” He said.
That made her stop. It caught Devon’s attention for a moment. She lifted her eyes to meet his.
“And where could that be?” She asked curiously.
Right when he answered and filled her question and so was Devon’s chest beats loudly. But she quickly hide her shock, and the sudden perplexity which grip her insides. As he mentioned the King, it was Tarik, the mate he left there was the first one who flashed in front of her eyes. But Devon quickly shook off the memories and brushed it off ahead.
“Why do we need to be there?” She asked, feeling nervous all of a sudden.
And it seems like Zachary have not notice that expression on her face.
“The custom of their kingdom will soon begin and so the King is asking for our assistance.” Zachary responded.
A custom? She thought. And by means of, the memories of what it could be bring it back to Devon’s memoirs. It was a tradition as what Lily said, whereas the maidens are going to be chosen based from how they are going to showcase whether they deserve the crown or to reign. It just that. It was absurd that they will be dictated to mate with the royalties although they are not mate, nor had they been paired by the fate. It was because it is what they had been told to. It was their blood to create a strong heir for the next in line King.
Devon couldn’t understand, nor had she can comprehend why does such custom exist. She knew what they are aiming for, but was it enough to ruin a bond? To trample onto somebody’s heart, because it was their mate—their own mate who would suffer more than the death. It would be a doom. It is the anguish that would kill them abhorred, the grudge they keep and so was the loathsome as they slowly lost their sanity and feel their insides with a brimming vengeance if every any would experience such.
It was horrible. It is something she is against with.
“I know that.” Devon frowns. “It is still hard to understand that they resort to such. It was unacceptable for the moon Goddess part, isn’t it?”
“It may be was, but that’s the Kingdom’s long tradition—”
“But it will kill their mate towards the death that was more horrid.” She cut him off as she voice out her fears. “It just too hard to think. It was unacceptable.” She added as somehow, her heart bleeds for those person.
That’s when something drown to Devon, when she realizes it.
“What about your Kingdom?” She bring it all up. “Do you have such thing to?”
“Oh, darling.” Zachary chuckled and coaxed. “If we had, then you won’t find me here all into you.”
“But Soren—” She gulps. “Isn’t she the one they were trying to tell you to get married with, right? I mean the council was pushing you on her.”
“They did.” He professed, before he is the one who cupped her cheeks. “But that doesn’t mean I’ll allow myself to hurt my mates feelings. They may have been my advisor, but I won’t settle at such same with the other Kingdoms.”
He looks sincere. He was so genuine that she felt afraid for a moment whether all was true or not. It was as if, Zachary was too good to be true, but he deal. He may have appeared surreal, but he was there as his mate. He was fulfilling the child dream that Devon had before. The sweet scenarios same with how her father would openly look at her mother. The love on his eyes similar to him, and his patience.
“Sometime I doubt whether I am deserving of you.” She absentmindedly whispered as she admitted those. “You’re too real, too much, but fair enough. Everybody would died for to have a mate like you, because you do not just have them, no, you do not just gave me a bare minimum to start with.”
“Because you deserve the world, Devon.” Hi s affection brimmed at the pool of his eyes. “And I know I can give it to you.”
“Why?” The side of her eyes watered.
“Because I love you.” He said. “It might have been too soon or what, but I do. Do you remember what I told you before? Even when I had not yet seen you, I already promise to myself that I’ll love you with all of my heart, and I’ll accept you no matter who you are.”
“You’re making me cry.” Devon gnawed her lips, but the tears on her eyes does not suggest anything closer to sorrow, it was a pure joy, which evoke and move her deeply.
His words which touch her soul when nobody does before. It engulf her, it gave her the comfort she seek and longs for.
Zachary in synch softly laughs and pulled her on his arms.
“Come here.” He said, and she obliged, bringing herself closer to him without any gap that was separating the two.
She was lucky, she was more than unfortunate to have Zachary with her. He did not rejected her at first although she was rogue, when most wolf would often settle to rejection if they found out. First thing first, Zachary treated her right more than what Tarik did. He fills the empty space that her other mate couldn’t and that’s what made her fallen for him more. She was falling for him. The feeling she was most scared off was slowly happening, but Zachary was giving him none to fear. He was making her feel secured, and comfortable, although Devon was unsure whether both of them would be able to fill the plans they are dreaming for, his dreams to make her as a Queen and as a belov3d mate he had waited for ages.
“Don’t cry anymore.” He consoled her, and this is what Devon do not like at all.
Her pettiness, and her heart, which is slowly growing weaker day by day. She bit her lips as tears poured more. She gnawing the bottom as she express both of her sadness and her joy, while Zachary continuously hold her on his arms.
If only...if only they could stay like this forever.
