I Beg Your Pardon

Upon arriving at the entrance of the White's mansion, Auriane's expression turned piercing and her guard was immediately lifted up. A stark contrast to her warm eyes and calm attitude when she was at Nora's new homestead. But it was understandable that she felt more distant in a so called home and that watched her grow up and calm when facing two strangers that suddenly appeared in front of her to offer their help. Though they were strangers in both lives, she was more relaxed with them beside, though she still had her guard up. Taking a deep breath, with a focused expression, Auriane walked towards the double wooden door and before she could knock, the door was pulled open by one of the maids. The maid gazed her from head to toe with a look of despise. But Auriane didn't react, feeling too lazy to deal with Stella's lackeys. Because all the maids and workers of the White had been employed by Stella, she was sometimes faced with their cold and indifferent attitude. They didn't mind bullying her and treating her with harshness, not even caring that she was the daughter of their employer. But of course, they wouldn't have done all these if they hadn't received the green card from Stella. Besides, everyone knew that she wasn't well liked by her father and wasn't genuinely well treated by her step mother, though she treated her well on the surface, it was barely a show to attract other's attention. She still remembered that she had constantly complained to Angel about the servants ill treatment towards her, but Angel obviously led her towards the wrong path. "Auriane, you're the second miss of the White, you ought to show them your authority. If not they would never respect you." Angel's words sounded honest and reasonable, but it was from her advice that her arrogance towards others was born. In order to show everyone her authority, she acted rude towards the servants and though it worked it only ended her with the poor reputation of the arrogant rich missy. From then onward she was constantly compared to Angel who was said to be kind, philanthropic and graceful. She exuded the beauty of an angel as per her name, while she, Auriane White was nothing more but a boorish senseless peacock who would be nothing without Angel. Effectively, she had a poor reputation, while the cause of her poor reputation could still bath in glory and smile at her innocently. "No need to worry sis, if no one loves you, I'll love you and always stay by your side, no matter what." How stupid, Auriane thought to herself. She had been indeed too stupid in the past to not have seen Angel's tricks. Angel had never loved her, nor did she have any ounce of emotion towards her as a sister, she barely made use of her to build an image for herself. Causing her to be seen as the worst and ending up without friends. However, now that she was reborn, all that had to change, misery was yet to befall her, so she definitely wouldn't repeat the same mistake. Ignoring the maid who snorted at her, Auriane strode towards the living room. "Why is she so haughty about, merely an ingrate who was lucky to be rich. With a slutty sister like hers, let's see how long she can be haughtyhaughty when..." Halting in her step, Auriane turned to look at the maid coldly. Haven caught off guard by Auriane's piercing gaze, the maid instantly turned as pale as a sheet. She instantly felt that it was suddenly difficult to breath. Auriane's cold piercing gaze seem to penetrate her soul and suck out her air. She pondered to herself in a moment of panic how she could be so much affected by a mere thirteen year, frail girl. Struggling to regain her composure, the maid took a step back and coldly said. "You...what do you intend to do... I'm warning you, miss Stella..." Bang Unable to tell what had actually happened, the maid only felt air tight. Trying hard to catch her breath to no avail, she looked at Auriane's frost bite gaze with terror, not daring to outer a word anymore. "Why did you stop, why don't you scream to the top of your voice and alert your mistress?" Auriane coldly sneered and looked at the terrified maid who was obviously taller than her but suddenly looked like an ant that she could trample without much effort. She didn't care about building a perfect reputation like Angel or act all kind and pitiful to gain people's sympathy. Neither did she intend to dazzle the world and gain everyone's love with a perfect image. Image? What was that, a simple illusionary effort that people go through to gain recognition, but wasn't it just a selfish desire of the opposite society. An image was barely the creation of what people wanted to see and not what the heart wished. She didn't care about such vanity and she was going to leave just for herself and those who deserve her attention. So what if Angel was scheming and others had negative thoughts about her. It was fine as long they didn't mess with her, if not, she was going to show them that she was not someone to be trifled with, no one should dare mess with her. Tossing the maid at the corner, Auriane cast her another cold glance and reminded. "I maybe quiet but I'm not death, neither do I lack an ability." With just few words the maid felt her leg turned jelly and she immediately slumped unto the floor ' So scary.' She thought, recalling how terrifying Auriane had gazed at her, menacing and soul sucking. She almost felt that her life was completely drained by a mere little girl, but she couldn't quite comprehend what had happened. The Auriane she knew in the past might have been rude and arrogant for a certain moment, but soon became as meek as a lamb after being berated. She was nothing more than a coward who tried to bear horns, so she was easily bullied. However, the Auriane that threatened her at this moment was a devil. ' Yes, a devil.' From that moment, the maid finally understoodunderstood what was meant by the saying 'don't judge a book by its cover.' Though Auriane looked frail on the surface, she exerted an immeasurable force that even she as an adult couldn't counterattack. Subconsciously lifted her hand to touch her neck, she still felt the cutting warmth of Auriane's frost bite palm lingering around her neck. It would have taken her just little, little bit of force to snap her neck and she would have been death. She's definitely a devil. The maid shuddered at the thought and quickly scurried away, lest Auriane came back for her. Totally unbothered by the fear she had instilled in the maid, Auriane slowly strode towards the living room where she heard laughters permeating the environment. Laughter was normally supposed to bring upon joy and relieve one from their stressful day. However, Auriane's brows creased upon hearing the joyous crisp sounds penetrating her ears. She just felt that hypocrisy was singing falsely and satire was swaying like leaves on its tree. Upon arriving at the living, the laughter suddenly ceased and there was total silence as everyone turned to look at her with several mix emotions that Auriane could clearly define without much effort. Cindy frowned at her with an obvious hatred, Stella was filled with furry and despise, Angel had her gentle smile as always, but Auriane knew what was behind that gentle smile. She then gazed at the other corner to see a girl in pony tail, with dark obsidian eyes and not far away from her sat a teenage boy with a clean cut, neat appearance with a sturdy feature. Next to them was a lady in her thirties clad in floral vintage outfit, her hair tied in a neat bun. Without much thoughts, Auriane immediately recalled who she was. This woman was Miss Elgar, the principal's wife and the two children by her side were probably Nelly and Kevin. Nelly was fourteen, a die hard fan of Angel. In her previous life, this sweet loli had constantly made life difficult for her because of her jealousy towards her relationship with Angel. So they constantly got into a fight of which she always ended up as a bully, due to Nelly's childish and immature side that always gained her a lot of sympathy. Besides, Angel always made use of Nelly's hatred towards Auriane and her loyalty towards her to deal with her impeccably without being involved. But as for Kevin, Auriane didn't know much about him, just that he was sixteen and had always had a crush on Angel, so he always had a gentle attitude towards Angel, while she never much interacted with him. So they were more or less strangers, since he studied at the capital city. Nonetheless, Auriane couldn't be bothered by him or his sister. Anyone who was on Angel's side was bound to be her nemesis as well. But as much as she hated to see their hypocritical face, she still had to show them some respect, regardless of how indignant she felt. "Aunt Stella, sis Angel, elder cousin, good evening." Auriane greeted perfunctorily, while Stella merely nodded. Cindy sneered and glared at her, while Angel smile radiantly with a reply. "Sis, you're finally back, are you tired I ..." "Mrs. Elgar, senior brother Kevin and Nelly, please accept my greetings as well and pardon my sudden intrusion." Mrs. Elgar nodded perfunctorily and took a sip of her tea, while Kevin just replied with a smile. Nelly didn't even bother to look at her, but Auriane didn't bother. She only greeted them out of respect, she didn't need them to acknowledge her. In the past life she might have tried her best to make a good impression of herself in front of Mrs. Elgar. But not anymore, in this life she would treat them like strangers. Giving a perfunctory greeting was already so much that she can do. Angel's face stiffened the moment she was ignored and cut off. It wasn't the first time nor the second time that she had been ignored by Auriane. And each timr she was utterly embarrassed, yet Auriane acted natural, as if it was normal for her to do so. However, no matter how indignant she was feeling, she could only bit her lips and lower her head. Realizing Angel's awkwardness, Nelly chimed in and berated Auriane. "Auriane White, Angel was so kind and concerned towards you. Yet, you ...can you not be so heartless." "I beg your pardon." Auriane calmly asked without batting an eye an the obviously furious Nelly he was glaring daggers at her.
