Change Your Fate

The chaotic moment had died down long ago and the once quiet wood was soon taken by the the trees swiftly dancing at the same rhythms with wind. In this calm wood, which Lucien had almost met a tragedy, a beautiful girl stood tall as s mountain in front of him. She was like a goddess that had just descended from heaven, carrying with her the aura of divinity. Though she looked aloof and cold, he felt a warm feeling the moment he set his eyes on her. Though he had actually never met her, he had a certain sense of familiarity with her. Her body seemed to glow like a star, causing it to be unable to look at her directly. He was indeed inferior to her in every terms. Her aura, appearance and charisma was beyond his reach. Even the pair of eyes that once made him proud was inferior to hers. She was a stark contrast of his disheveled self, just like a pitiful stray dog. He didn't even find himself worth standing up to look at her, yet he just couldn't avert his gaze from her and he wanted to get even close to her. But he didn't dare, neither did he dare to speak to her. But why then did he feel that they had met and have been acquaintance. But just as he was about to ask, he saw his sister tugging at her leg with her little pair of hands that had been dirtied by dust. Auriane frowned at the sight of the child tugging at her, she seemed to be displeased, but didn't kick Catherine away, just like others had done in the past, at the sight of the dirty baby. He had even wanted to rush forward and pull his sister away, but he realized that though Auriane was frowning, her expression wasn't that of disdain, but a helpless expression of a sister doting on her sibling. Lucien quietly watched at Auriane sighed and bent towards Catherine. Carrying her in her arms, despite the dirt on her body. Her expression softened and she lightly flicked Catherine's head. "Didn't I just clean you, how can you get dirty as soon as I turned my back." Lucien was stunned and at loss for words at Auriane acting close with his sister, while his sister who was usually shy smiled affectionately with her. It seemed as if they had known for ages and she was her sister, while he was the stranger. She even seemed more close to her, ignoring her standoffish character. Was he Muddleheaded or everything wasn't real. Immediately dispelling the thoughts, Lucien looked at the foreign, yet familiar face. He took a deep breath and asked calmly. "You... who are you...have we...met before." Auriane paused in her actions and looked at Lucien who seemed to be serious, despite being so disheveled. She contemplated on how to answer him sincerely, but she didn't know how to put it. In this life today was their first encounter, but in her previous life she had indeed met Lucien. Infact, she knew a lot about him through their encounter in her past life. It was just, in this life they met several years earlier and he was different from the Lucien she had met. The Lucien she had met was more mature, half of his face covered by a golden mask, probably covering the hideous scar on his face. He was mixed with mafias and dangerous thugs who didn't fear the law. He wasn't yet a recalcitrant fugitive who brought terror at his passage. With a heavy golden mask, he not only hid his scar, but a single eye that had been pierced and replaced with artificial eye. His body wasn't covered with several tattoos and his dark silk hair wasn't dyed with a multicolored spray. Most importantly, he wasn't considered as a murderer for killing his uncle and few thugs, precisely the ones she had just defeated and tied. All this happened because his sister was still alive, but if she had arrived few seconds later, she might save him, but if his sister had died she would have felt guilty and powerless. In her previous life, Lucien became a wanted criminal, roaming in the dangerous street, which caused her to encounter him while she was fleeing from Angel's grasp. He saved her, gave her a shelter, home and made her feel secured. They became friends and she came to know everything about him, from the moment he was brought to the orphanage, till the day his sister was killed by thugs sent to assassinate him by his uncle. Yes, his uncle had ruined his life, pushing him to the corner and at the end he lost control and killed him and his sister's murders to avenge her. Yet his heart was heavy and he felt that his hands had been covered with blood, making him to be in thirst of more blood. Though he never killed after that, he brought terror in the hearts of everyone. But it was this same person that saved her and died at the end for her sake, leaving her with a guilty and heavy heart. They had spent two years together, so they became trusted friend, her only honest friend, yet she couldn't saved him and only watch him shield her from bullets. His body was pierced through by several bullets, blood oozing out from his body like a sieve. His mask fell off, exposing the scar on his face, yet he didn't seem to be bothered, but relieved. He looked at her with a soft and tender smile, while blood seeped out of his mouth, staining his dress. Yet he smiled. He was dying, but had hoped for a better life for her. But just...how could she still have a better life? Even if she had a new life, as long as she was reminded that he died because of her, there would be no better life for her, but a heart wrenching pain. Auriane snapped out of her trance and got a grip of her emotions. Lucien's death was something she couldn't accept, but luckily she came earlier to save him. At least she could change his ill fate and give him a better life. The life he had hoped for her could finally be his as well. Auriane exhaled and said. "I had already fed your sister with an antidote, though her body hasn't fully recovered, she's no longer in a critical condition." Auriane didn't answer his question but went directly to his worries. She believed Lucien was more concerned about his sister's safety over other unrelated matters, though not completely unrelated. "If you have doubts, you can do a check up at the hospital, maybe you're more confident of doctors, than a mere 'stranger' who popped out from no where." Without giving him the time to respond, Auriane answered the question that had caught his mind. It was as if she could actually read his mind. Ignoring his startled expression, Auriane calmly walked towards the thugs that had been well tied by her, she pulled out of their bag a huge envelope and aimed it at him. "Your uncle spent quite a lot to get rid of you, I guess keeping the money wouldn't be a bad idea." Lucien who had caught the envelope suddenly stiffened and his body was tensed at the mention of his uncle. It turned out the thugs had been hired by his uncle. If he didn't know his uncle, he would have denied that fact. He was just curious, why the pretty stranger knew so much, it made him suspect if she was colluding with his uncle. Seemingly as if she understood Lucien's thoughts, Auriane chuckled coldly and replied. "Are you suspecting that I colluded with your uncle, then you must really be dumb, if I really colluded with him, would you be able to survive this day to doubt me?" Feeling embarrassed that his thoughts had been seen through, Lucien turned his head, unable to look directly at Auriane. He felt guilty for have suspected her; after all, she had saved him. Thus he couldn't entirely carry the blame, anyone who had lived a life of wary like him would always carry suspicions around. Nonetheless, Auriane had saved him and she didn't seem to be the type to hurt others, at least, she didn't give him that impression. "Forget it." Auriane turned and pointed at the thugs who lay motionless and well tied by a rope. "One of this two is a highly wanted fugitive. I just alarmed the police who should be here soon. They're in a comatose state so they won't be waking up any time soon before the police arrive. By then you can claim credit, you should probably receive a ransom from them." Auriane turned to look at Lucien who obediently listened to her without coughing, then she continued. "With the money in the envelope and the ransom, you can flee from your uncle and start a new life, but I have to remind you..." Auriane paused before she continued. "Your uncle is not influential, but he has connections, it surely wouldn't be difficult for him to find you. The only way you can escape from him is to change your life and become stronger than him. But it's up to you...the choice is yours to take. I had saved you, but I won't interfere with your choice of the path to follow." With that, Auriane walked towards Lucien and handed his sister to him. Though she left her arms reluctantly, Catherine was still obedient and didn't throw tantrum at all. Both siblings watched as she walked away in slow steps, not turning back. Soon her skinny frame disappeared from their view and only then did Lucien realize that he hadn't thanked his savior, neither did he know her name. "I actually didn't ask for her name." Catherine who was in his arms turned to glare at her brother who stood dumfounded in a spot. If she could speak, she would have said that he was indeed dumb for letting the pretty sister go. Only now did she realize that her brother not as cool as she thought. The pretty sister was all brains and brawns. The little baby helplessly sighed and looked at the direction where Auriane was last seen, hoping she could meet her again.
