Still, No One Was Satisfied

Upon reaching home after paying for some lottery tickets, Nora sent Serge and Stacey home reassuring them that she would be fine by herself. However, the moment they left she regretted it, but she didn't regret her decision to send them home and spare them from her ill fate. Though she was left alone, she knew wasn't alone in the world, she just needed to feel that her life wasn't built by relying on others and especially the kids younger than her. Thus she appreciated their concerns towards her, so she didn't want to implicate them in her already messy life. As Auriane had said earlier, she was willing to support and help her whenever she needed help, but they were certain cases that it would be inappropriate for her to interfer in. Of course Nora understood as well, so she didn't blame Auriane. Besides, Auriane had already done more than enough. "You're back." Upon sight of a tired and pondering Nora entering the house listlessly, Auriane walked to the kitchen and filled two glasses water. She passed one glass to Auriane and took one for herself. Nora's glass was filled with plain water while hers was warm with a branch of fresh green rosemary, sinking underneath the glass. Settling on the chair across Nora. Without waiting for Nora to react she quickly gulped down half a glass of water. The weather was quite hot,and it was almost impossible for one not to perspire and feel dryness in their thraot. She had spent quite sometime outside and the sweat on her body had made her feel uncomfortable. A clean freak like her probably couldn't stand her dress sticking on her body,so as soon as she came back to Nora's small cottage, she quickly took a bath and changed into clean cloths. Luckily the last time she already had spare cloths in Nora's cottage. "How you come changed clothes?", her hair was also still dripping wet, which means she had not only changed clothes but taken a bath as well. Not waiting for her sister to ask anymore, Auriane calmly replied. "My body felt quite sweaty and sticky when I came back, it was quite uncomfortable so I took a bath." Auriane didn't say much, so Nora didn't probe any further into the matter but simply took a sip of the plain water, seemingly not feeling thirsty despite having been exposed under the hot scorching sun. She grazed her finger on the clean, fixing her gaze on the bright transparency of the glass. A good drinking water was odorless, colorless and tasteless, just like the glass of fresh water that had been placed in front of her. However, for some reasons she felt a bitter taste lingering in her mouth, just after taking a sip of it. The bitter taste lingering in her mouth, wasn't different from the bitter aftermath of her tragic life, currently a thorn to her daily life. She was obviously a victim, but why did she have to suffer from humiliation and bear the disdainful stare of others. No one gave a thought that she never intentionally landed herself in a deep predicament, but in their eyes. She deserved it. Leading a righteous life and building up perfect image, she had always humbled herself and gave into to Stella's abuse without complaining. Still, no one was satisfied. No matter how much effort she had place to give satisfaction and at times against her will, her step mother and step cousin didn't spare her. While her biological father wouldn't even take a glance at her, but wasn't far from selling her, as if she were a plague that should be gotten rid of. Without any chance to explain, she was condemned and judged by everyone. When she thought of Auriane's words, bringing Cindy as a prime suspect to her predicaments, she still had doubts, though it immediately died down after her recollection of that unfortunate night when she lost her virginity to a stranger. The dimly lit room exuded a passionate ambiance that made her feel uncomfortable. As it was her first time visiting a club, she didn't wish to stay any longer, but Cindy kept pulling her down, obliging her to stay and avoid being a party pooper. So what if she was a party pooper, she just wanted to escape from that dubious atmosphere that made her to feel dizzy at each second passing, yet she had no way out. Bustling noise and nauseating people perfume mixed in the air with bodies swaying at the rythme of the beats. Few friends that accompanied her were all having fun, but not her. She only stayed behind because Cindy gave her no choice. "Cindy, we should leave, it's getting late."it was already 11 pm and the capital city was said to be quite dangerous at mid night, she didn't wish to take the risk of staying any further, so for the umpteenth time her complain reverberated in Cindy's ears, revealing a frown on her face as she looked at Nora with a sneer. "It's already so late, are you planning to go by yourself? At this time the street should be bustling with street gangs, if we leave by ourselves we might only encounter them. What do you think would happen to two feeble girls like us?" There was no need to say further, though it wasn't yet twelve midnight and the street wasn't yet filled with threatening thugs, the few gangsters that roamed in the street were enough to scare one out of their wits. They might not be scary as the thugs that patrolled the street at mid night, but their presence wasn't good either. If they were caught by the time, there was no saying what would happen to them. Regardless if they left an hour later or earlier, the consequences couldn't be negligeable. Nora immediately started regretting her decision to follow the pleading Cindy to such an inconspicuous place, now she could neither retreat nor do the reverse. "Forget it, do you really think I'll embark in a journey that'll lead me to meet my misfortune." Curiously, Nora turned to look at Cindy who maintained her calm composure, with a proud expression illuminating her tender face that had been covered with a thick make up. She picked a glass of red wine from the table and swirled it gently, taking a sip from it. She continued. "Of course I've thought things through before coming here, we can leave here safely by twelve mid night." "Really?" Nora's violet eyes immediately lit up with excitement, but when she eventually thought about the dangers of the night, she looked at Cindy with doubt. Annoyed by her lack of trust and the doubt on her face, Cindy frowned and bellowed. "What's that look, do you think I'm joking?" "I...." Nora opened her mouth to speak, but couldn't find the words to put in a sentence her thoughts. She wanted to voice out her doubts and displeasure, but she found it to be useless at that juncture. "Forget it, we came here with Alina and the boys. The guys are more familiar with places like this, so it's safer to leave with them. But I won't hold you back if you decide to go by yourself." , Cindy obviously wouldn't hold her back, but by hinting so much in her words, how could Nora still muster the courage to walk out by herself. "I .. I'll leave with you guys then." , It wasn't a kind of choice she would make but with such a situation, she wasn't actually given any choice, so she could only agree and wait for Cindy and co. "You finally realize it, here don't just sit there as if you're being bullied. Take this glass." Cindy immediately passed a glass of cocktail to Nora, of which she reluctantly accepted. Or it was more like Cindy forcefully shoved it in her hand. "I....I can't take alcohol." "What's there to be scared, it's just cocktail with low alcohol. Don't be such a coward, we're all here to have fun, don't pull your saint face here, you make me look bad in front of everyone." Cindy hadn't convinced her to drink the cocktail, but her arrogance did the deed and she had no choice but to gulp down the cocktail, little did she know that it was particularly that cocktail that changed her fate. Her later memories were blurry and she only recalled that atrocious night with the stranger, barely being able to see his face.
