Chapter 48

DAUIS’s POV “Dauis, I can’t believe this is happening!” She squealled out in anger. Hearing her squeal like that, I should know better by attending to her and comforting her rather than sit and wait for her to calm down all by herself. It would surely be a disaster. So, before she could go and vent her anger to anyone around, I reached her and held her to my side. “Candy, that shipment was supposed to be moving just as planned…” “Yeah, it was supposed to be, but what happened? You were in charge of it, Dauis, and I was expecting highly of you from that. That's why I put it under your care.” “I’m sorry." I said sincerely. There is no better way other than to apologize, now that she's upset. "I swear, I didn't see it happen, but what’s more important here is that they caught no one.” I continued. "This is bulls**t!" she roared angrily. “Not just that, why did you end up marrying that woman? I was your fiancee.” She continued to rant while pacing back and forth, changing the topic. “I already explained to you about that, right? I thought we were done with this,” I explained again. This time, I was starting to get irritated by her actions. So, I turned around to leave before it would worsen the situation. “Where do you think you are going?” she shouted while exhaling away the smoke. She has always been like this, she smokes when she's furious. “Everywhere except here.” “Dauis, what’s with the act? Did you fall inlove with her?” she demanded, walking towards me. She simply threw her cigar at the nearby tray before she stepped forward. I froze upon hearing her question. Unable to step any further. Am I? I asked myself. I stood still as I tried to ponder her words. “What made you think about it?” I turned in her direction. Because ignoring her should be the last thing a person would do. “Why don’t you just answer it?” “You know very well whom I am in love with. So I assume there is no need for that.” “Well, in that case, why not give her to me?” She suggestively grinned at me. Her brows rose, like a madwoman salivating for its prey. “WHAT?” I jerked violently and spasmodically, with my mouth slightly hanging open. “Why what? Wasn’t that supposed to be our first plan?” she asked as she eyed me, sensing my jittering behaviour. “Do you still love me?” she continued pitily. If I did not know her... “Nothing has changed.” “Then why not?” she asked again with eyes piercing at me knowingly. “I mean, of course, but isn’t it more fun if we played along, making her fall for me, then we slowly do it. Isn’t it more tormenting? In a way, she would be more likely to beg you to take her life,” I explained. Trying to act naturally. She has always been cautious and in a bad temper lately, so I have to be vigilant in talking to her before I provoke her any further. Contemplating on what I said, her once gloomy expression brightened. “You know what, you’re a genius.” her eyes sparkled in anticipation. “Of course, so you have to act as my business colleague first so she won’t lose her trust in me and won’t suspect us. “Fair enough.” and she walks towards me as she happily encircles her arms around mine. I silently sighed in relief, knowing that her mood had started to lighten now, when in fact, just a few minutes ago, my cold sweats broke in and I shivered with fear. FEAR... for someone. We were walking to her room when my phone buzzed. I know already that it was Ale based on my ringing tone specially assigned for her. I was a little hesitant, but the woman beside me was being skeptical lately, so I took my phone and answered the call coldly when I saw her eyeing at me. Then she simply listens to our conversation. “ Is anything wrong?” “Oh, everything is okay–” “So you call me for nothing? You knew very well that I am damned busy.” I scolded her. “Uh, yeah, sorry I forgot. Never mind.” Then I ended the call and glanced at the woman beside me who was at the moment triumphantly smiling at me. “Oh, that was so ouch.” “Let her be. It doesn’t matter anyway.” then I continued to walk with her to her room. “You know what, why not get some rest? You’ve just arrived. So, you must be tired.” “Okay, I think I need that one.” I nodded at her agreement and pushed her inside. “Aren’t you coming with me? I missed you.” she said, blinking her eyes beautifully. “I- of course, but I still have a lot of things to do in the bar,”I responded while detaching her hands from mine. Now, looking at her as she playfully batting her eyes at me, playing cutely to win my agreement. I can’t stop myself from wondering or maybe I am just hallucinating that Ale and her have some resemblance. The way she smiles and when they are furious too. The only difference was their behaviour. Ale was quiet, you wouldn’t always know what was running on that head of hers. She’s tough, and very straight forward. She doesn’t even know how to joke around. While Candy, she’s an easy-go-lucky woman. Vicious, loud and very vocal. She always says what she wants and constantly makes you do this and that. Something like a bossy type of woman. When she’s mad, she can’t control it. Very sadistic. She’s surrounded with a black aura, making her look more devilish. Though both are pain in the a**. If I had not known Ale since young, there would be no doubt that they could be mistaken as siblings. Well, not to mention that Candy was the only daughter of the late Great Mondejar– drug cartel tyrant in the whole of Asia that extended to a few communist countries around the world. And she’s here to take revenge on the Alforque family. “How about next time?” she asked, interrupting my thoughts. “Why not take me there then,”She suggested expectantly. Will, maybe it wasn’t bad after all to take her. I will just inform Allen about her so he will not freak out. She happily hugged me and reached to kiss me, but I simply moved sidewards pretending to give her a way. At first, she was taken aback, but when she saw that it wasn’t intentionally done, she just let it go. Thinking about Ale, maybe she wouldn’t know anyway. We first stopped at a fine restaurant for dinner. She has been bugging me that she’s starving. All I can only do now was to go with what she wanted. After having dinner, we now headed to one of the distant branches of the bar to prevent barging with Allen. Her men followed behind us, but the moment we entered the bar, she left a very strict instruction that they must not go inside. So, as the master told said so, everyone was left standing only by the door. As we take our seat not far from the podium, we then order our drinks. I looked around to make sure that Allen wouldn’t be there. I won’t worry about Daven though, because he barely has a night out, unlike Allen. Candy, who was supposed to sit opposite to mine, moved to my side and flirtily hugged me. She has even purposely been nudging her breast into my arms every now and then. If I wasn’t married to Ale and my body seemed to react only to her, I would’ve taken a taste of it. But since that day with Ale, I have become frigidly adamant about my hot and sizzling opposite s*x. Candy, of course, was no exception. So to cover up my disinterest, I c***k a joke every once in a while to prevent her from being suspicious that I am avoiding our little bumpings. We were laughing when suddenly I heard a commotion from the table not far from ours. Just as I followed my gaze at it, I saw Ale who was swaying, and was pushed to the side by Daven. She looks so intoxicated that she cannot even stand straight this time. Daven, who pushed her aside, was furiously looking in our direction. ‘SH*T! What are they doing here?’ I asked silently. My sweat started to break on my forehead, making me uncomfortable. And my heart was now starting to thud violently. As he reached our table, he grabbed me by my collar and punched me mercilessly. While being punched, my eyes fell on Ale, who at the moment was looking at me with hatred in her eyes. I don't like it that he looks at me that way, but isn’t that what I intended to do? To make her hate me? She looks so disjected. I know that she was controlling her emotions. Seeing her like that, it would be much better if she came and slapped me or screamed in my face. But, she didn’t. She just stood there looking at me emptily. She was hurting… Before I fell back on the floor, while Daven tirelessly punched me. I saw Ale who turned around and walked slowly out of the bar. Shoulders are both slumped in defeat. While Daven has been cursing me to death. I wanted to call her and explain to her, yet I knew that Daven wouldn’t allow me to come near her. Ale… I called out silently.
