Chapter 45

1615 Words
My eyes narrowed at the sight. I wanted to throw that woman away, or maybe I could walk there and beat her to death, just to let her know that the man she was flirting with is my husband. My Husband! But, he was flirting with her too, smiling at her widely and even laughing with her, which he didn't when he was with me. Or it is safe to say that the woman was frantically flirting with him and he was like to be okay with it. ‘So this is what he was busy about.’ I'm jealous, very jealous, but what right do I have? What would be my stand anyway when, in fact, I know in the very first place that his feeling for me has no label and he was not obliged to put me on a pedestal. I was just nothing but a dear sister to his best friends and an investment to him. I was about to speak when Daven stood up and angrily strode in their direction. He looked so furious and deadly while his eyes were fixed on the two, from afar. I was afraid of what he might do. I stopped him but he just pushed me to the side, which made me stumble a little. I have not seen this side of Daven ever since. So seeing him is very horrifying, a sight that sends shivers to my spine. I couldn't comprehend whether or not to be horrified about what Daven might do to him or the fact that I was in damned pain. So I was struck on the side feeling numb all over. Just like that, as he reached his destination, he spoke no words, but hurriedly picked up Dauis by his collar and smashed his face with his clenched fist. Punching him one after the other. Daven even looks so horrifyingly dangerous like a beast at this time. I wanted to run and stop him but I was nailed on my spot. All I could do was only gawk at the sight. Dauis, who was unguarded at that time, fell back easily. Then, people who were previously enjoying themselves gathered around while the woman beside him stood back with a look of mixed shock and horror. I turned to look at the other side when the onlookers were shifted sideways. There, I saw Allen and Shiela rushing towards them worriedly. Allen held Daven to stop him and Shiela was on Dauis, trying to help him stand. What confused me is that Dauis, despite being beaten nearly to death, never reiterated Daven’s anger. Instead, he just bowed his head humbly ready to accept another blow. “Daven, what’s wrong with you?” Allen scolded him, but Daven stood quiet as he panted in anger. His chest was rising and falling vigorously in a rage. This is the first time that I ever saw Daven act like this. He was always in control, but what we saw made him lose it. Glancing at the woman who was at first shocked at the incident, she had now fully recovered and ran to Dauis's side and screamed angrily at Daven's face. Her face, although beautiful, had now reddened in anger. She blocked herself from Dauis’s body protectively. My eyes stung at the sight, together with an unfathomable heartache. With every ounce of composure, I got up despite my drunkenness. I remained as calm as I could. Then, I turned around silently to leave. With every step I made, it felt heavier the farther I went. I swallowed hard in the hope of preventing my tears from falling, but the little traitor kept on producing abundant tears instead. I just hope that no one noticed me. Why in the world did such a heart-wrenching thing happen to me? Weren't my hardships and struggles enough? I thought to myself painfully. Walking out successfully, I hailed a cab, leaving my car behind. I don't think I can drive in this state. I was so numb that I couldn't even think of things clearly. This is so not me. And I am starting to get confused about whether I still know myself or I am starting to get insane. If it wasn’t for the love that I felt for him, I wouldn't have left them so easily. Instead, I would beat him myself for such an insult. After dropping by at our house, I went to get my bike and hastily drove away. I needed to get away for a while and gather myself. I then headed to my cabin and decided to stay there. I dialed Mang Kanor's number. “Hey child, how are you.” He greeted me from the other side. “Hi, Uhm. I’m not okay. I wanted to stay in the bunk for a while." I informed him. Silence… I know that by the way he kept his, he already knew that I was in trouble, so, “Okay. Tomorrow I will drop by.” then he ended the call. DAUIS I know I was at fault. I should have told Ale in advance, but I cannot. I didn’t expect her to be around either. So being beaten serves me right. When I saw how dejected she was when she saw me, I wanted to run to her and explain my side. But if I do it, the woman with me will surely be furious as hell and I don't want to offend her in any way. The pain in her eyes was so unbearing. I would rather accept it if she screamed at me and beat me too, rather than just stay there and watch me with controlled emotions. Seeing her leave crashed my whole heart. I don’t know, but I was hurting, and it pained me to see her in a defeated state. But she remained stoic and emotionless. I know she loathed me for this. But I promise to make amendments when I get home. It is too risky for me or her for now. The good thing was that I had Candy agree that she would only act as my colleague provided that I would settle things in the future. She was my fiancee before Ale, so she has every right to be furious too. “Hey, what are you doing to him?” she scolded Daven with full authority. “Woman, you had better leave this instance!” Daven responded with the same level of anger as her. Pointing his index finger at the exit door. “And who are you to dictate me?” she shouted in rage as she blocked me from Daven’s sight. My head throbbed at the turnout of the event. Looking at Candy’s temper was not far from Ale’s. Both have undeniably incomparable tempers in different ways. Candy, when angered, tends to be sadistic. She hurts people around her, while Ale, when furious, stays away from everyone quietly, unleashing her inner demon alone and as calmly as possible. How could these two different women share the same level of temperament? So, as much as possible, I have to avoid the possibility of them meeting each other. “Candy, he's Ale’s brother,” I said calmly. Tugging her with her arm, “Oh, Ale’s brother, then why on earth are they beating you?” She asked as she turned to me. She’s smart, so it wasn’t hard for her to pick up my message. “So mister, what are you angry about?” “Really? You asked me that?” “Why?” she asked, arching her brows at him. “The nerve with you woman. You are flirting with a married man!” Allen interrupted. “Hey, and why on earth will I flirt with my old friend and currently my colleague?” “I– uh, this is just a misunderstanding. She’s my colleague and we are having a meeting about business expansion.” I explained immediately the moment I saw a hole. “Well then, this serves as your lesson then. You must not mess with Ale, Dauis, or you will regret it.” Daven warned me before he angrily left. Allen and Shiela followed him outside too. But before that, Shiela shot me a knowing look. Just like that, the crowd around started to disperse. Then Candy pulled me to sit. “You know what, I hate it! And I don't like the way I turn out to be the third wheel here.” she rants in anger. “I will settle this okay.” “You should, because if not, I will make them suffer, and you know it very well, Dauis. You know very well how I play. So you had better fix this.” Hearing her warn me like that, I knew instantly that she wasn’t joking. “To think that they are all Alforque, it would be very easy for me.” After saying it, she stood up and walked out without glancing at me again. I heaved a sigh. I don't know where and how to start to explain to Ale. It was hard for her, but I just hoped that she would listen to me. I have to act quickly now before it is too late for us all. After gathering myself, I dialed Ale’s number in the hope that she would take it and would hear me out. But her phone kept on ringing. I tried to call home too, but there was none there either. I started to become anxious about Ale’s whereabouts. Maybe she went straight to their house to cool down. I reasoned out. Tomorrow, I will go and talk to her…
