Chapter 35

Dipping myself in saltwater always gives me peace of mind. It has always been my technique to escape when I could no longer control my temper, or even in a simple anxiousness. Moreover, when they knew that I am upset, they would likely find me dipping in the water. I enjoyed my afternoon dip, forgetting my fight with Dauis and the time. It amazes me somehow that if you are enjoying the moment, the time tends to run so fast, but if you are anxious and upset, time can only run like forever. It's getting darker now and I have the urge of getting off of the water. I sober. I'm refreshed and relieved. I took my towel and watch the house from a distance. It was still dark and there was no sign of someone was at home. I can only sigh at the idea and as I walk back into the house I feel a little hungry so I cook food for us in case he gets home. I thought of waiting him or calling him about his whereabouts, but I later ond changed my mind. He might think that I started to nag him. I get up from the dining table, wash my dishes, and head to the guest room. It’s best that we stay that way. I am busy doing research when I accidentally have a glance at the clock. It is almost midnight but he is still not home. maybe he is not coming. ‘He’s old enough to handle his things’ I reason out before I lay down and pull the quilt over my head. Not long after, I dozed into sleep. The constant ringing woke me up from deep slumber. Who could it be calling me at this time? I thought as I reach out groping my phone at the bedside table while my eyes were still closed. The moment I take hold of it, I immediately pressed the answer button without any second thought not even looking at it. I assume that it would be Roldan or Mang Kanor because no one else that I know of will ever call me this late. “Hello?” I answered groggily. “Ale, sorry to wake you up this late, but can you fetch your husband?” Said the man on the other line. Hearing it, my eyes widened in awe. I look at the screen and saw the unregistered number on it. Who could this be? The voice is very unfamiliar to me too. “Who is this?” I ask hesitantly. “Sorry, it’s me, Xander. He is so drunk that I doubt if he can manage to drive back home,” he explains. “Why not just drop him here.?” I suggested hoping that he will agree. I don't have any intention of becoming a drunken husband’s fetcher. “I can't, I’m drunk too.” “Holy sh*t! Tell me your location.” I said unconsciously hitting my forehead. what a headache they can be. Couldn't they just be responsible drinkers? I thought as my lips pressed into a thin line. After sending me their location, I open my map locator while I unconsciously massage my temples upon seeing how far it was. For God’s Sake, we are at the secluded area in Aurora, and he was a few kilometers from here. I immediately change my clothes and hurriedly head to the garage. Good thing that he has an extra car there or else I will not fetch him. Following the map, it took me almost half an hour to locate the place. It was a high end-end bar located right in the heart of the city. Even in the middle of the night, young party-goers are happily wandering. This is what Allen told me about missing a part of my life, I doubt if I will ever enjoy such kind of life. I shake my head at the idea. Not wanting to stay at such a place any longer, I park my car not far from the entrance in case I will have a hard time carrying Dauis back. I never thought that I will end up being a drunk husband fetcher. Upon entering the building, Xander who saw me first waves to me instantly, getting my attention. I guess he has been intentionally waiting for me in the lobby. He hurriedly comes to my side I look around. The lobby section seems so quiet but I know somewhere from the rooms where all the parties are held. He’s drunk, yes, but he is still capable of handling himself, I wonder why Dauis can’t. “You've finally come.” He sighs in relief. “Where is he?” I ask him calmly, but inside, I am in a rage. “Follow me. He has been pestering me since early this afternoon, I don't know what got into him.” I nod at him and assisted him as he lead me the way. “Who’s with you?” I, later on, ask, wondering how will he go home too. “I’m alone. I was supposed to fetch him too but he has become a drama actor and now this. This scumbag is a pain in the a*s!” he said angrily but in a joking tone. I know he didn’t mean it but for some reason, I can sense that they are not going along. There must be a problem between the two. I quickly open the door and revealed into my eyes a man in an inebriated state lying on a sofa. Singing a song that was barely audible with a bottle of vodka in his hand swaying from there and there. All my blood rushes to my head making me angrier at the sight this time. “Look at him.” Xander pointed out, grinning at Dauis viciously. “Dauis!” I sneered at him to get his attention. Indeed, he slowly raises his gaze to me with a wry smile. “Look who’s here,” he said in a groggy voice. “She came to look for me. Come here wife, join me in my celebration.” he continues to mock. My patience with this man is getting worse and worse this time. I have zero tolerance for intoxicated persons. Thus, I might end up strangling him until he is sober. “Let’s go home,” I demanded seriously, denoting danger in my tone. “Oh, i-its still too early, why not join us, right Xander? You also want her here?” he imposes on Xander. “She’s here to go get you home,” he responded while he stand unsteadily. Naturally, I come to his side and support him and take him to the seat. As he sit down, he fell and left us both unbalanced resulting in me falling on top of him. Dauis laugh at the sight sarcastically. “You see… I’m inviting you to celebrate with me, yet you like hugging someone who was not your husband. Your so cruel.” he said, very dejected. Xander looked at me intensely, and I feel like I was sucked in. His eyes… speak so many emotions. that I can't stand. I stood up in a flash, avoiding his gaze. “Dauis, will you stop it, and let's go home,” I said striding toward him. I take the vodka away from his hand and slam it on the table. Then, help him up but he shakes my hands away from his. “Oh, my little tigress is mad. D’you see it, Xander?” He smirks. As much as I wanted to leave him, Xander pleaded that I should take him home as he cannot bear with Dauis in his state. I sigh heavily as I watch the two who were slummed drunk on the sofa. I turn to Xander. “Come, Xander, I will get you in the car first, We will just drop you by. I doubt if you can drive alone at that state.” after saying it, I help Xander up and assisted him for a walk when Dauis call out. “Go, and take him, and leave me all alone here. You weren’t happy with me anyway!” he screamed. I annoyingly turned to him, “You know what? Stay here as long as you want. I will deal with you later.” after saying it, I started to walk Xander out while he glance back at Dauis. “Let’s go!” After tucking him in the car, I walk back inside this time to deal with the jerk. Seeing my return, he frowned at me and acted childishly. “Why are you back?” “Why do you think?” “You wanted to celebrate with me?” he asked shortly. “You want one? Let’s g home and I will show you how celebrations are for me.” I said and pick him up forcefully. “You’re mad,” he said as he look at me in my eyes. “Who wouldn’t?” “You better leave me rotten here then.” “By all means.” after saying a word, I drop him back again at the sofa nearby. Walking past him, I sat opposite him as I took a glass of vodka and drank it all at once. He looked at me and said, “hey-hey! Don’t drink too much, you might upset your stomach.” seeing that I am on my second shot. “It won't upset my stomach, but dealing with you upsets me.” “Okay, stop it. Let’s go home. I'm sorry I'm acting this way.” Seeing him say it sincerely, I stood up this time, picking him up blandly. He is heavy, despite my strength, Dauis is taller than me and well built, this explains that even though I was strong, I still struggled accompanying him. We both stumble and I am starting to get irritated, but grateful that he kept his mouth shut. Shoving him inside the car, I help him with fastening his seatbelt when he suddenly said barely audible yet incoherent words, but the last sentence caught my attention. “My wife is of beauty but dumb.” and was surprised at Xander’s muffled laughter. I thought he was asleep? But after that nonsense, both started to snore softly indicating that they were fast asleep. If I am being irrational, I will have him taste what a dumb woman would be. He must be thankful that was trying my best not to lose my temper. I heave a sigh of relief seeing this two now sleeping. I turn around to the driver's seat and started driving away. Funny it is that my once painful and full of anger life has now turned into like this. become a married woman in no time and worst was that I fell into Dauis arms, the lastest person I can think of. Silly isn't it? All I wanted was justice but destiny is playing its tricks on me.
