CHAPTER5

Philip said that I should commit some necessary crimes to establish my authority, but it wasn't my forte. Sometimes, I may be cranky, but that's all! I heard from Michael that TJ Madrigal worked secretly, but I knew better; it was just Philip Madrigal. When his only son refused to take over the organization, he pressured me into accepting the responsibility. I wish I had the strength and courage to defy him! The only consolation I got from all this charade was the handsome driver who looked like a God for his personal appearance.  Enrique Navarro, the newly hired driver, was someone that I dreamed of having. No, I declared that I was smitten by the way he stared at me. His gazes were always intense as if he could see through my soul. Honestly, I was confused. I just met him, but it felt that we had a connection.  If there was something that I disliked in him, it was his reckless driving earlier! I almost died, for heaven's sake!  About thirty minutes later, we arrived at our destination, and just like the first time I saw the property, I fell in love with it.   From the outside, the house appeared to be fashionable. It was made of white bricks and has bluestone decorations. Tall, half-rounded windows enhanced the house's overall appearance and added a reasonably symmetrical style. It has an average kitchen, one large bathroom, a small living room, five bedrooms, a large dining room, and a modest garage. The structure was circular in shape, and it was completely encircled by wooden sunscreen frameworks to block the harsh rays of the sun during the afternoon. The roof was high and slanted to one side, with red ceramic tiles covering it. The house has one wide chimney on the side and several long, thin windows that allowed plenty of light into the rooms beneath the roof. The house was also surrounded by a well-kept yard, including a grass field and flower patches around the perimeter. “It’s a gift from Philip,” I informed my driver because I knew he was confused why the interior design was so feminine. “Do you like my place?” “I think so,” he replied. “Perhaps you should add a huge mirror behind the sofa,” he suggested. “Whoa, are you an interior designer or something?” I asked. “I studied a little bit about interior design, but it wasn’t my major,” he responded with a nod. “Well, we can get to know each other while drinking beer; what do you think?” When Enrique nodded in agreement, I immediately instructed him to go ahead towards the patio near the fish pond. I just hoped that he wouldn’t notice my style. The truth was, I needed to get close to him, to inhale on his manly scent, and to study his gorgeous features. On his way to the patio, I couldn’t stop myself from staring at his ass. It looked full and just my type. I bit my bottom lip before I went towards the bar to get our drinks. When he saw me with a bucket of beer in my hand, he immediately stood up to help me. “Thank you,” I told him while fluttering my eyelashes. Enrique cringed at my subtle flirting, but what did he expect when he was so f*****g gorgeous. If only I could sway my hips in front of him, I would definitely do it. “Did I keep you waiting?” I asked him, and he shook his head in response. “Are you always friendly to your employee?” He asked in return, but his tone was offensive, so I clenched my jaw. “You are my first,” I replied with the truth. “You never had a staff before?” “No,” I replied. “I can manage on my own, Ken. I don’t know what’s gotten into Philip when he insisted that I should have a driver and a bodyguard.” “How about the new boss?” “Who?” “The new boss, TJ Madrigal. I hope to meet him soon,” he said. “Maybe, but as you well know, he’s kind of a recluse and dangerous. It’s a deadly combination, don’t you think?” “Yeah, I think so too,” he replied while opening the bottle of cold beer, and then he gave it to me. “Ladies first,” he jested. “A lady? Are you blind? Look at me!” “Your heart is that of a woman, so you are a lady,” he explained. “Don’t let your hopes up, Ken, because I’m not going to make you my husband,” I jested, and as expected, he was dumbfounded at my statement. “Relax, I’m just kidding,” I told him after his expression darkened. “I heard that you used to be Philip’s right hand, a trusted advisor and a confidante, so I wondered why you’re not chosen as the new boss,” he mentioned his observation, and I just nodded my head. “The organization has to be led by someone in the family,” I informed him. “He has an illegitimate son? What about the first one?” For a moment, I squinted my eyes at Enrique because he almost knew everything about the family. “Who’s your informant? He’s quite good,” I complimented his ability to investigate or guess about TJ Madrigal. “I didn’t mean to eavesdrop, but accidentally, I overheard a conversation about the new boss,” he admitted. “Some are true while others are not. Anyway, do you have an older brother? I like you, but you are way too young for me.” “As to what?” “As a lover,” I answered. “Did you hire me to become your boyfriend?” “Of course not! You were hired to drive my car and to protect me,” I reminded him that his position was a driver and a bodyguard rolled into one. “How long are we going to stay here?” “Just overnight. Why? Are you scared to be alone with me?” “Scared of you? Are you serious?” Based on his question, I could tell that he underestimated my capability to protect myself. Definitely, he had no idea that I have been protecting myself for a long period. Philip has security personnel, but I didn’t have any. “How did you know we were hiring, Ken?” “It’s Rick, Tyler.” “Whatever. So, how did you know that we required a driver or a bodyguard?” “Connections?” “You got connections? Whoa, that’s remarkable! Where did you work before?” “Stardust,” he replied. “Stardust Hotel?” “Yes. I used to manage that luxurious hotel, but it stopped operating all of a sudden. We were paid for the length of service we rendered to the company, and that’s it!” How could I forget the incident in Stardust? As soon as Philip discovered the truth about the murder of his son’s first wife, he became ballistic and thirsty for revenge. “I hope that Troy Ramirez is doing just fine,” I mumbled. “I hope so too,” Enrique agreed without knowing that Philip and I attacked Troy Ramirez for murdering Marcus’ first wife and daughter. “Anyway, we should head back to the mansion now before it’s getting dark,” I told him. “Tomorrow, we have to leave early.” “You’re going somewhere?” “We have to pick up Alexander Ortega,” I answered, and he just nodded his head. “I hope I can stay longer because you seemed to be a nice boss,” he complimented my character, and I was glad to hear it. “Just don’t betray the organization, then you will last longer that way,” I shared with him a tip on how to survive within the organization. “Or else what?” “You will die,” I warned him.
