I called out after her, but she refused to look back. She just ran and left me in the dust. She didn’t even care that my heart was breaking in front of her eyes. All I could do was watch her leave.
I slump against the cave wall and drop my head into my hands, fighting the urge to cry. Everyone said she felt the same way, even her father assumed we were a couple.
