Entering the ball.

1073 Words
Christine's POV Tonight is the night of the hospital ball. I am already ready, and I will be attending the ball with my father and Professor Stevens. Tonight, we are also going to tell everyone who the new head of the department is going to be. I have not changed my surname yet. I am waiting for the divorce to be finalised before I take my maiden name back. It has been a week since Jonathan helped me throw my ex and his parents out of the house. I know that they have not done anything yet because everybody is waiting for the announcement. I think their son is going to get a huge amount of money every month. However, my father already knows everything. I am wearing a beautiful golden gown. It has a slit showing off my leg. My father and Jonathan are waiting for me as I make my way downstairs. I greet Jonathan, and he greets me back. "You look beautiful, my darling. I am glad you moved in here with me. I would have been worried about you if I knew that you were still staying on your own. I do not want you to stay there until everything is settled, and we could have taken care of Mike and his family. I cannot wait to see their faces tonight when they realise that Mike is not going to get that post and that you are going to the job. I cannot wait to announce the new head of the surgical department. I cannot wait to see their faces when they realise that they are screwed," My father laughs. We walked outside to the waiting limousine. Jonathan had not said a word yet. I know he doesn't like women. Everybody around him knows that he hates women after what his wife did to him. He is a handsome man, and he looks so handsome in his black suit. I am also glad I first moved into my father's house. But my house is still under guard, and nobody can interfere. I will not allow them to take anything, not even the clothes I have bought. Most of those things I would rather give the clothes and stuff I do not want to a charity organisation than give them back to them. It does not take us long to reach the hospital. There is a red carpet in front of the venue. Everybody important in the medical field will attend the annual hospital of West View Hospital. Everybody wants to work at West View. It is the most prestigious hospital in town, and it pays the most. It makes me sad that many doctors are only doctors to make money, and they don't care about the people who need them the most, those who cannot afford to get medical care. However, I do have hope in my heart for the future, as there are a lot of doctors who do charity work. There are organisations like Doctors Without Borders. They will work for free. As we step out of the limo, everyone looks at us. I get out first. I know that my ex and his family will be here. I am followed by Jonathan and my father. The first people I see are my ex, Emma, and his family. Of course, there are, rubbing elbows with the wealthy and the famous. There are even actresses and actors attending. West View's annual ball is to collect money for charity. This year's charity money will go to Sacred Heart Hospital. My father has already donated money for them to buy new equipment. It made Jonathan very happy. He likes to work there and help people in need. Of course, I have also helped him there because we do it for free. "What is she doing here? She's not even a good doctor," I hear Mareen say loud enough for everyone to hear. "Maybe she is kicking Mike out. Perhaps she wants him back. Can you believe how pathetic she is? Showing up here with my uncle. I hope she isn't running after my uncle because my uncle is a woman-hater and everyone knows it. Especially after what he is to him," Emma says. "Oh, look, there is Dr Harold Baxter. He is the owner of West View. I know your uncle is his partner, but we have known him ever since we studied together. It is a shame his wife died. I always liked her. I hear he has a daughter. I wonder if she is married. Maybe Mike will send a chance with her if she is still single," Maureen says. "Mother, I am with Emma, and she is pregnant with my baby. Christine, why are you here? Are you running after me? I don't want you anymore. You're just making a fool of yourself. Tonight is my big night, and now you're here to spoil it," Mike says. His friends and every snob around him start laughing. They are all staring at me. "Christine, honey, let's go inside," My father says. I know he does not like to make a scene in public. "Dr Baxter, I did not expect you to take a younger woman as a lover. I have known your dear wife, and I'm sure she would turn in her grave if she knew that you have this gold digger as your new lover. I don't know what she told you, but don't fall for her lies. She was married to my son, but he is in the process of divorcing her. Those houses that she claims are hers don't for it. They belong to my son and us. She just had help kicking us out. She thinks she can get the houses because of the divorce. She is not wealthy. She is just a poor doctor because she cannot get a job at a prestigious hospital like ours. She's using you to make Mike jealous," Maureen says. Everybody around Maureen is looking at me as if I have the plague. They are all pointing fingers at me. As if I were a harlot. "Watch your mouth, Maureen. I don't like to make scenes, but I will not allow you to talk nastily about my daughter or me. Everybody, I want you to meet my daughter, Cristine Waltz. However, after her divorce from this comeback, she will be known as Dr Christine Baxter," My father says.
