“Selfish, petty and heartless.”
Those words echoed in my skull, ringing over and over again as I stumbled backwards in shock. My body froze, and a shiver ran down my spine.
“Did he really mean that?” I thought as the knife within my heart twisted,
Without me, he would not be here today. When John had been cast out of his pack, I was there. When he needed anything, I gave him everything. And yet, he called me selfish and heartless.
Just because I wanted to keep my inheritance.
My lips parted, a scream threatened to tear through my throat, but nothing came out. I was too shocked to even think.
“Is that all?” John asked in his unbothered cold tone, “Because I am not giving you back this watch, Ella deserves it.” He paused, his eyes narrowing, “Also, please show yourself out when you are done.”
He moved to walk past me, but I stretched out my hand and gripped his.
I swallowed as I lifted my gaze, “It’s over.” I whispered, my pulse racing as I struggled to get the words out, “For me and you, John.”
For a moment, the world froze.
His brows furrowed and the smirk on his face shifted, just slightly enough for me to see his exterior arrogance c***k.
Then, he laughed, loud and sharp.
“You?” He leaned forward until his lips were only an inch away from mine, “Leave me? Please don’t make me laugh, Lily. You are weak and pathetic. What would you even do without me?”
Each word that left his lips pierced through my heart like a sharp knife, tearing open the old wounds that I had tried to keep close.
“I’m serious.” I whispered, my voice cracking as I resisted the urge to burst into tears.
I never thought this was how it was going to end. But I knew it had, and my conviction was clear. No matter what happened here, I was leaving him.
“I will not stay here and watch you m-”
“What? Marry Ella?” He cut in smoothly, his strides long as he began to walk away from me, When he reached his door, he paused, then turned to face me with a cruel smile, tugging at the corner of his lips, “Don’t Lily. No one is asking you to. Run to the farthest corners of the earth, but we both know it doesn’t matter. You will be back.” he paused, his beta aura pressing in on me.
“Because you are nothing without me.”
Then, he walked out of the office, leaving me alone with my thoughts and a broken heart.
My heart had been cut into pieces, I no longer cared about what he thought of me. As John left with haste, I could tell he didn’t believe I was actually going to leave.
He thought me weak and pathetic.
He was going to regret that.
Minutes later, I stormed into our home with a bevy of appraisers and workers behind me.
I didn’t cry, nor did I scream.
Instead, I channeled all my emotions into tearing the house apart. With the help of the workers I hired, I tore through all the rooms in the home, ripping apart beds, sofas, even curtains. I sold the dress I wore on our first anniversary, the necklace he had given me that he had once sworn represented forever, even the first watch I ever bought him. Every item, every gift, every memento filled with memories — I sold them all, for ten million dollars.
Everything I had once clung on to because I hoped it would meld her relationship back.
By the time I was done, the house looked as hollow as a ghost mansion.
The broker had a huge smile on his face as he began to order the workers to pack everything inside a large truck.
I patiently waited outside until I was sure everything was gone. After they left, I walked out of the house, towards my car parked in the garage and drove off.
During the ride, my phone pinged, showing a deposit alert for ten million dollars.
The sight of the money almost brought me to tears, but I pushed it down. This was money bought with my life, my dreams and my memories with John.
Memories that are now worthless.
I had long called a real estate agent, one I could trust, and I had bought a home off the market that was as close to the Viscount pack as possible.
With an over three million dollar budget, the agent worked fast. Just hours earlier, I had received a call saying that all the documents had been drawn up, and the home was officially in my name.
It took me an hour to drive there. When I got to the estate, my heart froze, it only took a glance up for me to realize why.
The security guard manning the gates was a wolf, and so were the other guards I could sense around.
All Viscount wolves.
I held my breath as they checked my documents and waved me off, grateful that the news of my upcoming wedding to their comatose alpha hadn’t spread yet.
I needed time right now, and a bunch of suspicious wolves breathing down my neck would eat into whatever time I had left.
I stumbled out of my car and walked into the home.
As I stood in the middle of an empty home, my chest heaved and a smile tugged at the corner of my lips.
There was nothing left of him or her, it was just me now.
Only me.
And maybe, just maybe, that was enough.
