BLOOD AND LIES

1124 Words
“I am ready to let go.” I whispered under my breath, This felt like the thousandth time I had made that declaration as I drove towards my, no, John’s office. I told myself it would be quick, painless and final. But deep down, I knew that was a lie. I’d walk in, drop my resignation, have it signed by John and walk out. Hopefully, all in a couple of minutes and without any confrontation or tears. That was the plan anyway. But of course, fate had different plans. The moment I took a step into John’s office, my body grew stiff, and my eyes widened. John was there, as I knew he was, but he wasn’t alone. By his side, wrapped gently under his arm was a woman with a flushed face and a rosy expression, a woman who moved slowly as if she was the most delicate vase in the world, Ella. Her blonde hair was tied back into a bun, and her lips curved into a sweet smile as she turned her gaze over to the door and spotted me. Once upon a time, after my parents were killed and I was given by the pack to Elena, Evrella was my best friend, sister and greatest confidant. Even though we were not related by blood, I always considered her my true sister. And I told her everything. That was why it specifically hurt when I saw my parents watch on her wrist. She knew how much it meant to me, she knew I would hate to see it taken away, yet, she did it. “Lily,” she breathed softly as she tried to stand up, but her legs trembled slightly, and she sat back down, on John’s lap, “How are you sister? It’s been a while." I tore my gaze away from her to John, who had seemingly not even noticed that I was in his office. With bated breaths, I clutched the envelope in my hand – my resignation letter – and began walking forward. “I’m not here for you, Ella,” I whispered, trying to keep my voice level and forcing myself not to meet her gaze. “I came here because I wanted to hand this in.” John finally looked at me and saw the envelope, his brows furrowed as his mind raced. “Wow,” he smirked, “Are you resigning already?” he said softly, “I really didn’t think you would be so weak to do that, But I guess after I saw what you did to my home, I shouldn’t be surprised.” My gaze flickered towards Ella and the watch on her hand. I wanted to speak up, but I knew it would accomplish nothing. Her gaze was filled with mock pity as she leaned forward and kissed John gently on his lips, “Don’t be too hard on my sister John,” she whispered, “You know poor Lily is going through a lot now,” “Poor Lily,” the words left her lips with relish, as if she wasn’t the reason my world was crumbling all around me. I let the envelope drop on the desk with a heavy thud. “This is official John,” I started, “I will not be working here anymore.” John’s smirk widened, “Okay,” he said lazily as he reached for the letter, “Though don’t expect me to take you when you inevitably come running back like the b***h you are.” His eyes glinted, as if this was an amazing game to him. Once again, I was reminded how much I had sacrificed for this bastard. I had given so much of my life to him that he still didn’t believe I was going to leave him. That was when it happened, As John leaned forward to pick up the envelope, Ella leaned forward too. One moment Ella was smiling sweetly at John, the next, her claws were out, and in a blink of an eye, she raked them across my face, drawing blood. Pain exploded across my body as I stood frozen in shock, too stunned to realize that warm blood was dripping on my dress. But before I could even come to my senses, Ella shrieked, loudly. She stumbled backwards into John’s arms, her claws retracted, and curled up in his arms. As she did that, she clutched her arms, as though I had been the one to do something to her. “Ah J-John,” she screamed, “Li… Lily grabbed my hand,” her eyes shook with fear, but her smile could not contain her satisfaction. This time, the world seemed to freeze around me. I blinked, shocked as blood dripped on the envelope. “Ella!” John backed as he gathered her close and began to check her body. After he was sure that she was okay, he turned towards me and barked, his eyes blazing with fury, “What the hell is wrong with you, Lily?” he roared, “Your sister is sick, and you come here and try to harm her?” My lips parted, but no words came out. I couldn’t say Ella was lying, it was pretty obvious that he wasn’t going to believe me. I thought he might have seen through her little act, but John was too far in love to realize that the claw marks on my face were hers. But of course he didn’t. His arms tightened around the now sobbing Ella, as his glare intensified, “You are pathetic.” He spat at me, “You are also fired. Get out of here, you selfish bitch.” The same words again, 'selfish b***h'. I shook my head as I felt the weight of his decision crash into me at once. To John, I was nothing. My hand shook as I touched the blood streaking down my face. My wolf had already stopped the bleeding and very soon, the scar would be healed. But the one in my heart won’t. Not once had John cared to ask how I was feeling, or if I was hurt. That was when it dawned on me, He would always choose her. So, I straightened, threw the envelope at him and turned towards the door. This time, when I spoke, my voice was calm and collected, “Keep her.” I said with a frown, “Keep everything.” And with those words behind me, I wiped the blood off my cheeks and walked out, ready to start my life anew. For the first time in years, I thought about my future, and my dreams. My audition was today, and I needed to prepare.
