“Wait who? Sally?” Nemesis stopped me from walking by grabbing my arms. She seriously stared at me with her face looking very shocked.
“Yes, it’s Sally”
“The Sally before?”
“Yes. That’s why I feel like that name sounds familiar to me” when Mara described her and says her name, I knew it. She is not just imaginary. She’s a soul. A soul that I have encountered before. My unfinished business.
“Why, wait what happened? Did she came back?”
“Well I can’t say that she came back, she disturb Mara’s soul. And she attempted to get her and be with her. I think she wants her to be miserable as she is right now. Lost, without peace”
It is my fault. I should have caught her and convince her more to come with me. I act foolishly back then.
“That is not good. She became a vengeance soul. But why Mara?”
“That’s what I am trying to figure out” Sally is somehow attached to Mara. She’s showing up to her when Mara is still a kid. And now she showed up again when Mara is already a soul. But why does she wanted to take Mara? That is somehow confusing.
“Look, Thanatos. You let Sally go by mistake. She’s a big problem now. What if she’ll take other souls to be with her there on where she is right now? You mess up big, dude” Nemesis started to pat my back and I don’t know if she’s trying to help or she’s just trying to annoy me.
“I don’t know. It seems like she just wanted to take Mara. It has been a very long time since Sally slipped in my hands and… it is just now that she showed up telling me that Mara is hers”
“We don’t know that for sure. You should have done your work with Sally a long time ago. I can say that she will be a big problem if you can’t take her to the afterlife as soon as possible”
--Flashback--
A car crash…
A car crashed into pieces and it is now located at the end of this cliff. I looked up from where it came from and the barrier at the side of the high road was ruined. It is a big mess.
Now I just have to find the victim and take her soul.
I slowly walked towards the incident. The car is smoking and it is upside down. No one can survive this kind of accident.
I peak at the crushed side window and I saw the body of the child, the child that I have to carry to the afterlife. She is full of blood and II can say that every inch of her bones is dislocated. She is too young to die like this. But, I am wondering why she’s alone in this car? Where is the driver? Or her parents? Why is she the only one here?
“Who are you”
I am surprised when I heard a voice of a girl from behind. I slowly turn around...and I saw her looking at me without any emotion on her face.
“Are you...Sally?” I asked while I started to walk towards her.
“Why?”
“I am the one who asked you first young girl”
“And I asked you last, why?” Okay, I don’t think that it will be an easy job for me right now. This girl is pissing me off.
“I am here to help you,” I said nicely even if I wanted to kick her as of this moment.
“No, you’re not”
“How can you say that?”
“You’re the grim reaper. You are here to take me”
I was surprised. She’s too young to be knowledgeable about the things like me. She looks very smart huh.
“N-no, I am a genie. I am here to grant you a wish” I still try to act nicely to her but it seems like it is not effective.
“If that so… bring me back to life”
“Except that”
“You are not a genie then”
WHAT THE HECK IS WRONG WITH THIS GIRL? SHE HAS AN ATTITUDE HUH? TOO YOUNG TO BE LIKE THAT.
“Genies can’t bring back the lives of the people who are dead already,” I said with an authority. I am starting to lose my patience with this soul. I want to drag her and throw her to the long road already.
“Then what is the sense of you being here with me? What is the sense of you granting me wishes if I am already dead?”
“Okay, look, kid… I--”
“No. I don’t like you. You are a liar. You are not a Genie, you are the grim reaper”
THIS KID REALLY?! I WONDER WHAT AWAITS IN HER AFTERLIFE.
I lean down and grabbed her hand. I furiously looked at her face which seems to be not so scared of me… or maybe she’s just pretending to be brave.
“Hey, Sally… I am here to bring you to your destiny. Cooperate with me or else...”
“Or else what? Don’t touch me. I am not Sally” she tried to remove my hands from her arms and she started to move away from me. Now I can see that she’s angry.
“What do you mean that you are not Sally?”
“Sally is the baby on that road” She pointed to the road where the car came from. I snapped my fingers immediately to bring myself to that road quickly. In there I saw the baby that she is referring to. But this baby is still alive and kicking. I turned around and saw the back of a woman that seems to be calling an emergency hotline.
I don’t think this baby is Sally.
That child is lying! I’m so stupid to believe that freaking child!
I snapped my fingers again to go back to the car incident. In there I saw her now running away from me. This child gives me a headache!
*snap*
“There you are… you can’t get away from me, Sally” she stopped running when she saw me in front of her. Does she really think that she can escape death?
“Go away!” she shouted, while tears starting to flow from her eyes. Okay now what?! She’s crying? What should I do now? I am starting to hate this job.
“Listen. Don’t be afraid to go with me. It is fine”
“No, it is not”
I’M LOSING MY REASONING SKILLS WITH THIS GIRL. SHE’S GETTING THROUGH MY NERVES.
“Okay, uhm… how about this. I will grant you one wish.”
“Then…?”
“Then if you’re ready to come with me, I’ll take you after”
“Okay”
Woooh, At least once… she listened to me. I hope this will turn out well.
“So what is your wish? Amusement parks? Cupcakes? Puppies? What?”
I waited for her response for a few minutes. She seemed to be thinking it thoroughly. Ah this kid, she acts like an adult with her young age.
“I wish to stay here”
“I am sorry… what?” This girl is nuts. Doesn’t she want to have a feeling of peace in her soul?
“I said I wish to stay here!” okay now she’s shouting at me again. I feel like I want to teach her a lesson right now. I don’t know but I am not okay with her attitude towards me. I’m fine with the scared souls but this?! I AM THE GRIM REAPER. I AM POWERFUL. THEN SHE’LL JUST ACT LIKE THAT TO ME?!
I just let out a big sigh before I speak.
“For how long?”
“I am not certain”
“You know kid, it will be difficult for you to stay here for a very long time”
“I know what I am wishing for. Now can you grant my wish or not?” Is she spoiled or something? I want to turn her into pieces.
“Okay but… only for the meantime. I’m going back for you after three days”
“Yeah whatever”
Argh… I want to slap a kid.
“Take care. See you again soon”
--End of Flashback--
I came back for her after three days and she is nowhere to be found. I came back to that place for several days but, I haven’t seen her anymore.
“So what is your plan now, Thanatos?”
“I am going back to that house”
“What? Where?”
“Where Mara lived for a few years”
“I want to help and join you but I just had a call right now and I need to accomplish another job. Good luck Thanatos. I hope you get her this time” Nemesis patted my back before she vanished. As of the moment, I have no souls to take so I can use this time to go back to that house…
*snap*
I got here quickly using my powers. It is not that dark right now because the sun is still up. I looked around this house to find her or maybe I can also find some clues on where can I get her. Sally has been a very huge problem for me. Even at this moment.
“Sally?” I said while I am slowly walking up the stairs. “Sally, your time is up and you know that”
I am waiting for a bit of response but I cannot hear any sound. I can’t even feel her presence.
“Sally… you know that you have to come with me right? You passed your due here already”
I look like I am talking to myself here. But I need to try anything that I can just to finish this matter. I need to think of something that can trigger her to show up to me.
Think Thanatos… Think of something…
Wait,
It is not something…
It is someone.
“You want Mara, right?”
When I said that, I automatically felt the cool breeze inside this house. I knew it, she really wants Mara.
“Why do you want to take her?” I asked, and the wind started to go inside the house. It is very heavy wind.
“Okay how about… you show up, then I will give you Mara?”
“LIAR!”
At last! I heard her now… but I still cannot see her. She is not showing up.
“I can really give her to you if you want, Sally”
“LIAR! LIAR! LIAR! LIAR!”
I can feel her presence. I am just not so sure where it is. She is really good at hiding. I opened one of the doors here and I saw a dark corner. I feel like she’s in there. She always hides in the dark.
“Okay you got me there, Mara is not here anymore”
“She is mine, Mara is MINE”
She really is in there. I can hear her clearly and I can see some kind of movement in there. I started to walk towards her.
“No, you can’t have her anymore. But I can have you. Come with me” I am about to run and grab her but she vanishes. After that, I feel again the heavy wind brush through me going outside the windows. She really learns how to teleport from place to place. I think she learned a lot while she stays here.
“Mara is mine”
I was surprised when I felt her whisper right through my left ear. I immediately turned around and I see nothing. After that, I have not felt her presence anymore. The wind, the cold breeze, nothing.
“Sally?! Sally?!” I shouted as I quickly run downstairs. I cannot hear any response anymore. She’s nowhere to be found.
I think…
She has escaped, again.
