Maria's POV
I woke up to a small whimper beside me, and when I opened my eyes, I saw Isobelle sitting up, hugging her knees, and staring at me with fright.
" Hey, sweetheart, what's wrong?" I sat up and asked her. I tried to reach out to her, but she moved away and hid her face in her arms.
" Don't be scared, Isobelle. I won't hurt you. You are safe here, I promise." I whispered. Then slowly, she lifted her tear-stained face and looked at me. I smiled at her and opened my arms to her. She climbed to my lap and hugged me.
" I'm scewrd," she whispered.
" I know, sweetheart, but you don't have to be. We will protect you, and no one will harm you again." I told her while I rock her slowly in my arms. Then suddenly, my door opened, and Isaiah and Franco came in looking so serious.
