Witches were known for taking extra care in protecting their dead, who were also witches. This was because if dark witches got hold of their bodies, they could desecrate them and channel their cruxes for their corrupt purposes before their crux could make it back into the earth.
It was why most witch families had family cemeteries where they could bury all their loved ones and safeguard the area with protection spells. For instance, my mother's family had a family cemetery, one I had been to only a few times when we needed to bury a family member. Even far away, a witch could feel the spell guarding the area.
