Nolan: Never in my life did I think that a woman would be challenging me. Never in my life did I think that it would be a woman who told me deliberately to shut up. And yet here she was. She sat across from me, fork in hand, her spine straight, her chin just slightly lifted as if daring me to say something else. As if challenging me to go against what she was doing, the way that despite me telling her to eat, she didn’t. And for a moment, I didn’t. I didn’t even know what to say.
