It was a standoff. Maximus, Miguel, and Sylvan on their horses. Bruno, Julius, Val, Anzalone, and Nelson, standing on the trail. A few wisps of fire crackled near the crater where the wood bomb had detonated. Most of the Humvee dust blew away in the wind at this point. Only the tires remained, scattered throughout the trail. Nelson and Valinoti aimed their Obsidians, while Anzalone did his best to point his handgun. Julius and Bruno had their Obscuros, but they didn’t aim just yet. Julius had his armor on, but something told Bruno that the enemy could easily penetrate a nook or cranny when necessary. Bruno’s headache continued to pound as if his brain was at war with his skull. He could not concentrate at one particular Piner or else his eyes would cross and his headache would intensify.
