I couldn't get back to sleep that night, but it didn't matter. The sun was beginning to rise, and I quietly made my way to the kitchen to prepare a cup of coffee. Stepping out the back of the house for a cigarette, I heard the back door open. “You're up early,” Adam said as he joined me outside with his own coffee. “Yeah, I had trouble sleeping,” I replied. “I heard you talking in your sleep,” he mentioned. “Was I really that loud?” I asked, feeling puzzled. It seemed odd since we were in separate rooms and both our doors were closed. How could he have heard me? “Yeah, there was some noise. I even checked on you at one point because I thought you might be having an argument with someone on the phone,” he explained. “No. My phone's been on silent. It has been for days,” I replied.
