Intern

Years have passed since Seb decided to take medicine instead of art. He decided to get his internship at Stanford Hospital instead of their own hospital. He wanted to make it in the medical world, not being overshadowed by his parents and his siblings. Being an intern made Seb feel really normal, especially when none of his colleagues or superiors ever asked him if he was related to the Stanfords of Castle Medica. For his colleagues who are not all from prominent families, just the normal ones whose edge was their smarts and wits, Seb is just an average medical intern who learns and messes up all the time. After long hours of duty, Seb and his colleagues are walking towards the parking lot as the night shift comes to replace them. Then one of his co-interns, Adrian, jogged forward to get ahead of everyone and turned to them. “Have you heard?” Adrian asked “About what?” Jude, another intern, responded. “I heard from the outpatient department that there is a notorious carjacker going around the block and they have been leaving injured car owners,” Adrian told them, and the rest of the group looked worried. “That’s scary,” Iris said. “They must have tried to fight the carjackers.” Liza, one of the nurses, said. “Dealing with criminals wouldn’t end well,” Seb said, stretching his tired limbs. His co-workers all looked at him. “Have you encountered something similar?” Rose, another intern, asked. Seb pursed his lips and shrugged. Then he smiled at them and yawned as he motioned with his thumb that he would be going the other way. His co-workers understood and waved him goodbye. Seb waved back as he yawned before walking his way towards the parking lot, where he parked his truck. Seb sighed loudly as he pulled his keys from his truck. He was about to unlock his truck when he felt something press against his back. “Hand me the keys,” A cold, gruff voice said from behind him. Seb looked ahead. “Can we not do this now? I am freaking tired,” Seb responded to the person behind him. “I don’t care. Give the keys,” The man behind him hissed. “What keys? House keys? Piano keys?” Seb sarcastically spoke, annoying the carjacker behind him. “Shut up!” he spat, shoving Seb against his truck’s door. Seb heaved a deep sigh, annoyed that some lowlife carjacker was stopping him from going home. As the carjacker tried to take the keys from his hand while pressing him against his truck with something sharp, Seb slammed the back of his head against the carjacker’s face. Besides the sickening crack sound that echoed around the parking lot, followed by loud groaning, Seb could also smell blood. Seb huffed and turned around, facing the carjacker who was clutching his broken nose. As Seb gave the carjacker a deadpan look, the latter was glaring at him. “Why the hell is your head so hard?!” the carjacker snarled at Seb while pointing his knife at him. “I have diamond bones,” Seb said nonchalantly. One of Seb’s gifts is the ability to turn his bones as hard as a diamond. That’s why when he slammed his head against the carjacker, not only did he not feel pain, but he inflicted real injury and pain onto the carjacker. The carjacker started cursing at Seb while coming at him with his knife. The carjacker’s frustrated snarls caught the attention of Seb’s coworkers, who were still nearby because they were discussing where to eat. They rushed towards Seb’s direction, getting there just in time for Seb to throw a punch, hitting the carjacker square in the face, knocking him out. As the carjacker dropped to the ground, unconscious, they all gasped in surprise. “What happened?” Pierro, another nurse asked. Seb sighed and answered. “He tried to take my keys.” His colleagues looked at Seb and then at the unconscious man on the ground. “Wait, he’s the carjacker?” Adrian asked, and Seb nodded his head. “I thought you said dealing with criminals doesn’t end well?” Cooper asked, and then Seb looked at him. “Yeah, for the criminal,” Seb replied, and then he yawned again. “I’ll call the police,” Iris said as Jude pulled a zip tie from his bag, surprising everyone. “Why do you have zip ties in your bag?” Liza asked. “For emergencies,” Jude answered, tying the carjacker’s hands behind him with the zip tie. Seb yawned again. “I’m really sleepy.” He said, can’t barely keep his eyes open. “Hey, don’t drive. You should just wait for the police so you can give your statement,” Rose told him. Seb nodded his head as he was too tired to argue. After a few minutes, the police came and told them what had happened. As the police hauled the carjacker into the back of the cruiser, they were about to ask for their statements when Seb approached them and gave them the memory card of his dashcam. “Everything is there. It also has audio, so you’ll see pretty much everything.” Seb told them, and then the police officer looked at the car before looking at Seb. “Thank you for this, Mr –“ “Dr. Stanford,” Seb spoke, cutting the police’s sentence. The police officer nodded his head. “Alright, Dr. Stanford. Can you please follow us to the station so we can take your statement?” the police officer asked. Seb yawned again. “Can I do that tomorrow, officer? We just came from a thirty-six-hour shift. I really wanted to sleep,” Seb spoke. The police officers looked at Seb with concern. “Do you need us to take you somewhere? You looked too tired and sleepy to drive,” the other police officer asked. “It's fine, officer. I already called someone who can drive for me,” Seb paused, and he looked ahead. “In fact. He’s here.” Seb said, waving his hand. The others turned around and saw a tall man with quite a physique walking towards them. Once he got there, he looked confused as to why there were police officers. “Should I be worried?” Leo asked, looking between the officers and Seb. Leo and some of the Elites happened to be in the area as they are chasing a lead on a rogue that is also a serial killer in several states. They asked Seb for help, aid them, and be their healer, and Leo actually came to see Seb to ask about his response. “It's fine,” Seb told Leo, and then he turned towards the police officers. “I will be at your station tomorrow in the afternoon. I will just sleep and rest and deal with what I need to do,” he said, and the police officers nodded in understanding. Seb turned to his colleagues. “I’ll see you on duty night,” he said, waving at them. His colleagues nodded and waved back, and then Seb tossed the keys to Leo before he walked around to get into the passenger seat. Leo gave the police and Seb’s colleague a curt nod before he got into the driver’s seat. Leo turned the engine on and drove off. Seb let out a loud sigh and leaned back as Leo drove. “Thanks for coming, Leo. I’m so tired, I can no longer drive,” Seb said. “That’s fine, your highness. We asked you for help. Driving for you is a small thing,” Leo replied, and then he glanced at Seb. “What happened back there anyway? What's the police doing there?” he asked. “Some bastard tried to take my keys and my truck. I knocked him out,” Seb told him, and Leo snorted. “What an unlucky bastard,” Leo snickered. ‘Uh-huh. Anyway, let's do that mission after I get some sleep and deal with the police statement tomorrow.” Seb told him, and Leo nodded his head. “Copy that,” Leo responded, and Seb gave him a thumbs up before letting out a sigh and leaning against the window. Soon, they arrived at Seb’s apartment building. “Just send me the location for tomorrow,” Seb told Leo when they got out of the vehicle. “Will do,” Leo replied, and then he handed the keys back to Seb. “I’ll go in now. Thanks for driving me,” Seb told him, and Leo bowed his head. Seb waved him off and dragged himself inside the building. Leo watched as the young prince went in.
