The meeting for the future mother-in-law was about what I expected, the shrews were typical of any woman wanting status and not caring about the man who would give it to them. I had seen it at work, with my stepmother and half-sister. Once they have their hooks in you, it is hard to get away from them.
Luckily, Douglas was reasonably strong and resisted Mother's attempts. I wonder whether he would have accepted Mother's choice to keep the peace if I had not come along.
A question I don't think even he has an answer to.
He might have just grabbed a woman from the club who made him hard and married her.

The beach helped calm my mind of the different scenarios bouncing inside my head, and my heart had little to say about it.
