Mia My head started to spin, and I felt a suffocating pressure in my chest. I pressed my hand against it to calm myself down, and I began to think about my patients. What could have happened? Everything seemed to be going well with them. “As?” I raised my face, which at this moment must look horrified. “Family members of the deceased came to the hospital after his death, and explained that it was a low-complexity procedure, that there was no cause for Mr. López to lose his life. That after being discharged, he had severe bleeding and the hospital could do little or nothing to save him. The López family will file a lawsuit against the hospital and, incidentally, there will also be a lawsuit against you, Dr. Taylor. They believe that you should stop practicing. An investigation will commence immediately. For now, you will be removed from your position, until the investigation is concluded.” I was speechless and tried to control the emotions that were bombarding me. I held back my tears, and realized that I have lost everything, completely. “Dr. Taylor.” Dr. Harris was still talking, but I couldn’t hear him. I came out of my trance and looked at him again. “I'm sure there must be a mistake, I know how to do my job.” I managed to speak, to defend myself, but the doctor's cold gaze made me realize that whatever I said to refute the evidence in his hands as well as what was on his mind, was useless. "Doctor, that will be clarified in due time, now you can leave," he pointed to the door. I nodded slightly and left the office of the person who from then on ceased to be my boss. I would clarify everything, I said to myself, with the desire to regain the only thing that mattered to me. I went back to my office, sat on my chair and covered my face with my hands. I took a deep breath and allowed some tears to fall. Afterward, I wiped my tears. I have to be strong, this is not going to bring me down, I must get my life back, even though I'm not going to get you back, my little one, I'm not going to allow anyone else to hurt me. I exhaled deeply and stood up. I gathered my personal items, put off my robe and hung it on my arm, and I started to think about how I would get out of this situation. I finished putting the last item in my bag and opened the door. “Here you are.” I looked up and saw Clarisse, Jacob's mother. What was I missing? "Mrs. Anderson," I said, already tired of everything, she is part of the people I don not want to see right now. Without my permission, she entered the office with a haughty expression and a look of disgust on her face. I placed my things on the desk, already feeling exhausted. I crossed my arms and looked at her. She looked at the chair and seemed to be contemplating whether to sit down or not. In the end, she remained standing. “I heard about your little tantrum,” she said, sneering. Is she serious? “Your display was not necessary, my son has needs, and you have your work. He asked you to stop working, but you did not comply.” Of course, I fulfilled them and that does not justify his cheating. “What did you come for?” I asked. I was tired of her words and her attempts to justify the unjustifiable. “I will give your son a divorce and move away from your distinguished family. Maybe Kelly will suit you people.” I said and she looked at me in annoyance. "You can't get divorced," she said confidently. I made a strange gesture at the words that just came out of her lips. What is she talking about? She was never in support of our marriage. That is what she has always wanted. I thought she would be happy. “We want you to return home and be the perfect couple that you appear to be.” I laughed sarcastically, and she looked at me with anger in her eyes. “Why would I do that?” I asked, looking at her in confusion. “I imagine you want your job back, so think about it. I found out about the problem you're having. You know we can solve it in no time.” She replied, shrugging her shoulders. At that moment, everything began to make sense to me. With their influence, they can buy anyone. So my problem at work has everything to do with them. “I'm going to get back my job, but not by agreeing to your blackmail.” "Please Mia, you have nothing, you don't even have a place to live, you just lost your precious job. Returning to my son is nothing in exchange for getting everything back," she said disdainfully. "To your coward of a son and his lovers?" I asked angrily. “Obviously!” She responded as if it was insignificant. “He can have fun” she said, and my anger boiled at such impudence. "I won't come back, Clarisse." I said with finality. I won't give them such pleasure. Her countenance instantly morphed into anger. She held her purse tightly, turned around and took a few steps to the exit. When she got to the door, she stopped and looked at me again. “Good. Then see how you get out of this mess and do it quickly. I don't want this to reach the press, so you won't expose the Andersons to a scandal," she pointed her manicured fingers at me. They have certainly lost their minds, they put me in this mess. I'm sure it won't come to light, because it is not in their best interest. They are just trying to manipulate me, but I'm not going to allow it. I'll reveal the fact that they had a hand in this issue and everyone will know about it. It's Jacob that should help me divorce him. “I don't give a damn about his last name; all I care about is getting my job back.” "I don't know what my son saw in you, you're so common," she said, with disdain. "You're not even close to..." she stopped, but I know she was referring to Kelly. I don't know what possessed me to get married to Jacob. “You will come back, Mia, I'm sure of that.” Her gaze reflected something that made a chill run through my body. She left the office, slamming the door behind her. I shook my head and exhaled deeply. Resting my hands on the desk, I picked up my things and left. This time l left through the back door of the hospital. I put everything in the trunk of the car, and I drove to Blair's house. *** Clarisse’s POV I left the hospital and went to the car park where my chauffeured car and escorts were waiting. "Keep an eye on her," I ordered my men and I knew they would do what I had asked of them. "Home," I said to my driver, and he started the car. Then I took out my phone to call Jacob. "Mother," he said when the call connected. “See you at the house in thirty minutes,” I ordered my son. “Okay, I'll see you there.” I arrived home and went to the living room where Jacob should already be waiting. “Mother.” He approached and kissed me on each cheek. I was upset with him because his actions are making us deal with that insignificant Mia. "Talk to her, she doesn't want to come back." I told him as I sat on one of the sofas. “Bring me some tea,” I said to one of the domestic staff. “Yes ma'am.” She replied. “What's the plan?” I asked my beloved son. “I will reduce her to nothing, I will take away everything from her, and she will return. She will be the obedient wife she ought to have been, and she will sign the papers to that effect. I said when Jacob remained silent. "Do you think we should go to that extent? Our marriage is no longer working," Jacob said. “I knew it wouldn't last longer than I could bet, I don't know what you saw in her.” I took a sip of my tea. “She was charming, mother, and I was dazzled. She made it difficult for me and became a challenge for me. I confused it with love” he said, shrugging. “Of course, of course, and now we are in this mess because of your whims. You know that everything would be simpler if you, little i***t, had not taken one of your lovers to your own house. We have hotels, other houses, damn it.” I massaged my temples with my fingers, to sooth the headache that was beginning to torment me. "I know, I have been doing it for a while and she hasn't caught me. Her shifts were predictable, and she wasn't supposed to return until the evening," he adjusted his back on the sofa "What are you going to do with Mia when she comes back?" He asked nonchalantly, as if he wasn’t the cause of this mess. “I will find a way for her to sign the document where she renounces half of our fortune, and she must stay in this house, eliminate the evidence she has against you, so she will have nothing. We can manipulate her, both of you must continue pretending to be happy in this marriage. Because at this moment we cannot be involved in a scandal, she will remain here even if I have to use force.” “Mia is not an easy woman, mother, I think you are taking this lightly.” “Please, son, there are drugs and many other things that can help us tame your dear wife. You must help me. Do not forget that this is your fault.” “And don't forget that the inclusion of the fidelity clause was your idea,” Jacob retorted. And he was right, those clauses were made to benefit our family for years. We have never lost a cent to anyone and this will not be the first time. I will do whatever is necessary. “You acted like a fool in love. The clauses were made for our benefit. If you stopped "loving" her, she would leave with what she came with, and there would be no problem. We thought you would be smarter, son, and that both of you would separate at any moment for any reason. We didn't expect you to be unfaithful in the bed you shared! You had better find a way for her to come back and do what we want, or I'll do it myself. Your father's campaign would be in danger if that little woman exposes you.” When I finished speaking, I stood up and went to my room. The headache has intensified.
