“Wait….wait….” Russel yelled, stopping Daciana who was already through the door. She stopped and turned to him with uneasiness.
“What is it?” she asked jumpily and with a lot of urgency. She knew almost nothing about Aziza, but she could feel the kinship that connected the both of them. One time she had wanted to help a young red hair, years later, this red hair saved her life, spared her life rather. It was not enough to want to run into danger for her, but her heart was simply too good to ignore her and the faint connection between them wouldn’t let her sit still while she was put in harm’s way. Moreover, you could say that Aziza gave her a new life, one without fear or restraint, one in which she was bolder, more courageous.
“You are not as fast as her, I can teleport you there,” he replied and immediately started drawing a circle on the floor. She went back inside and went straight to him.
“You don’t even know where she is”
“I can locate her. You just need to get there and distract those cops till she recovers,” he explained and went down on his knees.
“What happened to her powers?”
“Get in the circle, Daciana, we don’t have as much time,” he commanded, pushing aside her question because it was something he didn’t want to give an answer to. If he only knew….
She did as he said almost immediately and he started reciting some words and incantations underneath his breath.
Back at the hotel’s lobby
Aziza breathed heavily, her heart was pounding inside her chest and the feeling of helplessness overwhelmed her and turned into one with the torment she was going through. Tears welled up in her eyes when she thought of Damon. Strangely, nothing mattered anymore to her, not herself, not her revenge but him. She had grown up feeling helpless all her life, she thought that she would never escape this feeling of not being able to help herself. All through the tortures, all through the pain, all through the sufferings she went through, she had remained helpless and had wished for death more than anything. When she was rescued and she finally gained her powers, it was the best thing to ever happen. The surge, the power, it made her feel invincible and she thought that she would never have that feeling again, that feeling of being unable to help, the feeling of simply watching as things go wrong and not being able to do a thing. That helpless feeling that she despised so much had somehow found its way back to her life and Damon was in the face of it all. Her heart wept, and faint traces of her demons wept together with her. They wept for loss, for death, for helplessness.
“We thought you were almighty and so high above, no one could reach you,” Bishop went on and on as he came closer to her. No one was more excited compared to him. To finally be able to get the protector of Damon Roxwell who had hand in hand taken his brother’s life. A good man who did honest business and she had killed him because he was Damon’s competitor. He had been threatened so much by her, by the stories people tell about her, he had thought she was the devil's incarnate but his need for justice, for revenge pushed him. His innocent brother would never die for nothing. But now, now that he could see her on the floor with blood all over her, he realised that she was nothing. Everything they said might have been rumours and nothing more. He was slightly angry with himself for even believing those rumours. Nonetheless, he had her now and it was only the beginning of what was to come next. He could imagine all he would do to her, the way he would punish her till she would never want to live anymore. The thought of it alone, made him so excited and anxious for the nearest future.
He was still going to continue with his taunting speech when a loud growl came from the entrance, then the painful screams from the cops outside and grunts of an animal. Gun fire followed and everybody turned their attention to the entrance including Bishop.
“What is going on?” he barked at his men.
“Some kind of animal,” one replied fearfully. He closed his hand into a fist and turned to Aziza to be sure that it was not a trick of hers. When he found her on the ground with tears running down her eyes, he snickered in satisfaction and turned back to the entrance.
“Shoot it,” he barked at them. But the growl became louder and the screaming of his men were becoming more and more frightening. Gun fire followed intensely and for a very long time, it continued as they shot at the beast non-stop. When it was all over, it became oddly quiet. But strangely, the beast was nowhere to be found and their hearts raced.
Daciana was a wolf from the ancient wolf line that was meant to be stronger, faster and almost invisible compared to other wolf packs. Yet they were termed the weaker ones by their people because they had a very calm and soft personality. They were gentle and knew how to tame their anger just like the gods moved with grace and patience. But they had been that way for too long, they had forgotten what it was like to actually be the strongest amongst all. Seeing death with her eyes seemed to have awakened the beast within her and she was moving in such speed and ferocity, it was like a miracle.
Pointing their guns in all directions, they searched for the beast for a while. No one saw a glimpse of it and at a time, they thought it fled. But it appeared so suddenly and grabbed a cop by his legs, then she flung him against a car and howled loudly before she ran off again to avoid getting shot. It was so fast, no one saw where she ran to.
“What was……. that?” one of the cops asked frightfully but the others were simply too scared to even utter a word. It looked like a dog, it looked like a wolf yet it looked bigger and more ferocious and faster. They could feel it was not a simple animal and that was scarier, dealing with the unknown. It took a long time for Daciana to jump on another cop and they started shooting again.
Aziza remained on the floor with tears rolling down her eyes. When she had asked Russel for help, she had asked for help for Damon and not herself. If Daciana was there, then Damon had no one to save him. If anything happened to him, her life would go without purpose because no matter how she saw it, Damon was her purpose as a mate and as a woman who was out for revenge. But no one was paying attention to her anymore since they had a wolf devouring them all.
She was still feeling like her life was about to end when a circle suddenly appeared and encircled her. Almost immediately, a bottle appeared in front of her. Not wanting to know what it was, she picked it up and gulped it in. Russel was the only witch who could help her so she wasn’t scared and even if it was a deadly poison, it was better than laying on the floor helpless. The moment the last bit of the content got into her mouth, her pain increased and she cried loudly, getting the attention of the cops again then her hand dropped. But unlike the pain she was going through, the pain slowly died down and an electric surge passed through her body, ranging from the very nails on her feet to the crown of her head, to the very tip of her hair. She shook and vibrated like she was being electrocuted while her eyes changed colours from green to black to white to red, then blue and white and an amber then she dropped. The cops who were watching her stared at her in confusion and wondered if she was dead.
Bishop gritted his teeth and c****d his gun. Holding it in front of him, he went closer to take a look at her. She was no longer moving and everyone thought she was dead. He would hate it if she died. Death was not punishment enough and he would prefer that she died by his hand. He squatted beside her and made to touch her hair when her eyes snapped open and he fell to the floor with his heart leaving him and crawled backward with his hands behind him.
The bones on her knees quickly and gently snapped back to the position it was supposed to be and whatever pain she had felt earlier was gone. It was replaced with absolute power more than she had ever felt in her entire life, it was scary. Her listening abilities, her healing abilities, her sight, her smell, it all returned stronger than she had ever known and with a bang of her hands against the floor, she rose up to her feet and turned to the cops. Her fangs pushed itself out of her mouth and her claws doing nothing to hide what she was. Their hearts raced and they finally felt what it was about her that made people call her death. They could already smell it in their nostrils and her gaze made them as cold as corpse. They immediately started shooting at her without waiting but a number of them were already down on their butts before the bullet could get to her.
She had no intention to kill anyone, especially cops. It would only bring more problems to her. The only blood she wanted to spill was that of Damon’s oppressors.
“I would advise you all to stay off my part, I won’t hesitate to end your life if you don’t,” she announced and turned to the entrance where she saw the majestic wolf staring at her with her tongue out and panting.
“Go home,” she ordered and sped off instantly. Her scent was sharper, quicker than before. It was like she had been revitalised, reborn and what was taken had been given back fully. Her speed was faster, within seconds, she could see Damon’s car far ahead with cars chasing hotly behind him and taking all sorts of roots. She went in sharply and pulled off the steering wheel of the first car before she moved to the next. It lost control and tumbled over, then it exploded. She took their weapons and began attacking in so much ferocity, she would have wanted something bigger than death if there was an even bigger punishment for that.
Damon’s heart was racing unlike it had ever done in his life. He had been put in danger countless times but he always had a comeback, all the time. And for a man as dangerous as him, his security was also very tight. Only now did he realise that Aziza had been the only magic he had. Because whoever his assassins were, they were bigger than what he had ever faced. Their bullets were fast, their aims were precise and there were a dozen of them. He could clearly see that there was no escape for him since his car was the only one running on the road. In his heart, this might as well be his last moment and if it was, then what about Aziza? What happened to her and why isn’t she here?
Before he could think too much into that, an explosion had hit his car and it tumbled over. Windscreen shattered and his head banged hard against something. It kept tumbling over and over and over till it finally came to a halt.
His head throbbed with pain and so did his entire body. When he opened his eyes, all he saw was darkness before a little light came.
“Mac...” he called out to his driver and he groaned in response. He breathed a sigh of relief. He had lost a lot of men but he wouldn’t want Mac to disappear just as Aziza had done. He looked around and found that their car had been tumbled over. He opened the door when his eyes caught people coming over. He could only see their legs and the booths they wore. They were dressed in combat trousers and black booths. They were like five of them and they went closer and closer causing him to remain still. His heart was racing more and more inside his chest and his head throbbed more.
When they were close enough, one of them pointed a gun at his head.
“Damon…your stay in the world is finally over. We have shown you enough mercy,” he yelled. The assignment had been more difficult than expected and he could not wait to tell the goodness. But before he could braze himself for the shot, something ran past them. In a twinkling of an eye, their weapons were gone and they froze.
Aziza threw the weapons away and stared at them.
“Finally, we got to meet you,” the leader of the squad strangely started to clap his hands together. she expected him to be afraid, they were always so afraid of her but instead he smiled at her.
“Who are you?” she growled at them.
“We are too big to be defined. It might not be today, but you have caused a lot of instability already and would surely die,”
“I knew that you should have gone first before Damon. With you around, we really can’t get to him, but now…they know that at least,” he continued.
“Who are they?” she asked again, feeling confused, and somewhat fearful of the unknown. He smiled at her and shook his head.
“You will know when you are about to die,” he responded and she scoffed. Who was he? Who was his boss and what gave him such rights?
“Your kind is not allowed in our world. Aziza Sheridan…….” Her eyes widened at not just the fact that he knew her name, but because he was going to state her full name. However, before he did that, she went through all of them like the wind of death and slew them.
