Broken and powerless

Damon pushed against the door of his car but the car had already sped off. The priorities of his guards and driver were his safety first before anything else and the threat of Aziza was enough to make them do their job better. He turned back to find that she was staring at him as the car went along, but then she bent down again, clutching her stomach and chest all at once. His heart raced inside his chest and he turned to the driver. “What are you doing? Stop the car?” he yelled but his driver matched the accelerator even more. For the first time, he was going to defy his boss for the sake of his safety and for the sake of dying in a more decent manner. He was going to get punished by Damon later for his disobedience but whatever punishment he would get would be far more merciful than what he would get if anything happened to the heir of Roxwell empire. Just the image of Aziza in his head was enough to feel him with fear of not just death but dying in a horrific and gruesome way. Aziza stared at the car as he sped off with a screeching sound and the other cars in which his body guards had come sped off with him. Her eyes were glued to the cars while her heart tightened inside her chest. The pain in her chest rose again and it tightened and soared like her heart was being burnt by the furnace of fire while a knife was driven through it. Then it travelled to her stomach and burned more like an acid had been poured within her veins. She jammed her lips together and gritted her teeth to subdue the sudden pain that was weakening her by the minute. But it was a futile attempt. It tore from within her that she bent down, clutching tightly to her stomach and her chest, wanting to dig her hand within her to dig out whatever was happening to her. Something was terribly wrong with her and it had taken a bit of her abilities. If she had not been quick enough, she wouldn’t have been able to pull Damon out from that office. She had stood outside just as he had asked when the pain had slowly made its way to her. It cut her off from everything they were saying in the office and took away the ability to hear from afar. But she had noticed the strange movement of some guys, dressed in black suits. One would think that they were guards of the patients in the VIP ward, but she saw the way they kept staring at her and the door that she stood beside. She became suspicious and forgot about her pain, then she followed them to the elevator and finished them there, but right before one fell, he smiled knowingly at her. They knew what they were doing and they had successfully lured her away from the man she was protecting. Her abilities to hear returned just in the nick of time and her burning pain increased but she pushed it away and sped into the doctor’s office to retrieve Damon but in the space of a few seconds, she had seen the attackers and saw that they were more than the usual number. Surprisingly, they knew her. “Go, go,go…..” voices came from a distance, followed by feets, then the cracking of guns right after Damon’s car sped off. But she had no time to stop, or feel any pain. No matter how much her body pushed her to stop, she had to remain strong, for Damon’s sake. Forcing herself to stand erect, she followed the voice, the scent of those men and ran to the building beside the hospital. It was a hotel and it was one of the prestigious hotels in the state. It’s said to draw a lot of people to it, due to its magnificent interior and exquisite look. People of class and wealth found it convenient to stay in that hotel during vacations, business meetings and parties. So, it was always filled with people all the time. She ran past the entrance and stopped right at the spacious lobby to pick them out but the sound of their footsteps suddenly disappeared. The pain within her increased and her speed suddenly disappeared. An event was going on in the hotel and there were a lot of people present. So, when she stopped in the lobby filled with a lot of people, all that followed were screams, yelling and people running. She was the red hair, the wanted one of the states, a murderer, an assassin and a non-human. Her presence alone was a sign of death and they all knew it. The screams of fear and chaos were the only thing that filled her ears while she clutched her chest and stomach. But her goal had always been to keep Damon safe and her pain was simply secondary. She pushed her whimper away and stood erect while everyone ran for their lives, lives she wasn’t even after. Most fell on their faces and other’s fell on others, some bumped into a wall and a lot more were tossed aside. It was the battle of the fittest, the faster to go through the door or the elevator. She ignored them and stood in the middle of the lobby, then she tried to listen to the sound of her targets while she looked around in search of them but nothing came. She shook her head to ward off the thought of her pain and agony and tried to concentrate to catch their voice and scent, but nothing came. She frowned and tried again to listen in but all she could hear was the chaos around her. That was when she noticed that she could only hear the sounds around her. A lot of people were running, their heart beats were supposed to be pounding inside her ears, their footsteps and screams were supposed to make her want to plug out her ears and throw them away because of how loud it was but she heard nothing. The sound of cars that came to a screeching halt outside because of the people that ran straight for the road because of their fear of death didn’t even come. Not to add that she could no longer smell anything, except for the strong perfume of the people around. Her hearing and smelling abilities were gone. “What? No…” she panicked. She suddenly remembered that it was the same way she couldn’t heal days back, the same way her fire trick disappeared too. But that was not supposed to be. She had been in pain and transitioned a few days ago. She was supposed to have a new power already. Her frown deepened and the pain was not the only problem she had to face. Fear instantly surrounded her and the pit of her stomach filled with a feeling of dread. All these years, she had depended mostly on her powers, her abilities had been the only reason why she had never been caught and why Damon remained safe, if she no longer had them then, it would be all over even before it began. But why? What happened to them? “What is going on with me?” she panicked and held her chest tighter at the burning feeling that overwhelmed her. It was only increasing by the moment and it was filling her like burning lava. She yelled in pain and her knees grew weak. The pain slowly ate her and she fell on her knees. Tears welled up in her eyes and the pain persisted and increased with each tear that she had dropped. But she had to get up from where she was to help Damon, her pain could not stop her from making a move to rescue him. Pushing herself, she tried to get up to her full height, but the moment she did, her knees cracked and she fell yelling and crying from the pain. Her bones pierced through her skin and blood came gushing out. Tears rolled down her eyes and her painful scream filled the lobby and echoed through the hotel. “Damon…” she cried through her thoughts. His heart came to a halt at the sound of her voice. “Aziza…where are you? What are you doing? Are you okay?” he began and looked behind him in search of her. “Don’t go home, look for a secure place and go to…” she sniffed. “Aziza…” “Go, Damon. I beg you,” she cried. “No,” Damon yelled and slammed his hand against his window. He could tell that something was wrong, his heart was hurting so bad and he could feel the pain that she was going through. “Stop the car,” he growled at his driver, his powers pushing against his subconscious. “There are people following us, sir, we can’t stop,” the driver replied and sped up. “Mac…..” he yelled. But his voice instantly came to a hush when the sounds of gunshot came from behind. Then an explosion. He turned around to find that one of his cars acting like a convoy had exploded, then gun fire followed massively. Back at the hotel Suddenly, the sounds of sirens and cars stopping at a screeching sound came from the entrance and Aziza turned to it. “Go, go, go,” a man yelled and footsteps, heavy footsteps and vibrations followed. “Freeze, hands in the air…” voices yelled as cops suddenly rushed into the lobby. Almost a hundred of them surrounded her with guns of all kinds pointed at her. They came fully prepared and all geared up to save their lives from her. She was already on the floor, her pain was slowly driving her to her own death and her broken legs made it hard for her to even get up. Her blood was all over the floor and her eyes were red and filled with tears. “Hands in the air,” they yelled again. Her thoughts were only on Damon and the men she was unable to capture. He was in danger and she knew it. How could she feel less than a human at such a point? It would make all she had done in the past for nothing if Damon was suddenly captured or killed. The gods couldn’t be so cruel to her right? Her fate could not be so cruel and wicked to have allowed her work for nothing all this while only for her mate to be killed on a night that she needed to protect him. Of all the nights that she could feel like she was about to die, it had to be on such a night. “Damon…” she whimpered. A different pain other than the physical pain she was feeling welled up within her. “Hands in the air…” another cop yelled, completely oblivious of the state she was in. She flashed him a glare and gnashed her teeth against each other. “I can’t move…You f*****g bastard…” she pushed out within gritted teeth and the hall went quiet. No one had expected to find her in such a pitiful state. They had all come prepared to get the great red hair and did not expect to pick her up without a fight. Most of them had already said goodbyes to their family in their hearts before coming out to get her. “Well, well,” a familiar voice came from amongst the cops and she turned to the direction it came from. Bishop Gray came out from amongst them all geared up with a smug look on his voice. “What do we have here?” Aziza ignored them and an idea suddenly came to her. If she could not get to Damon, someone else could. She focused on getting to Russel. She had lost a lot of her strength and power, her pain was so severe, it was slowly going to tear her apart, but Damon was above all this and if she could speak to Damon, it meant that she still had a bit of her powers left. “Russel….” she screamed in her thoughts. “What is it?” he said immediately in a panic tone. “I can’t…I can’t feel myself. My legs are broken, I’m surrounded by cops and I can’t feel my powers anymore. Damon is in danger. Please help…” she finished. “Wait…what?” guilt tripped him but she had already been cut off and the last of what she had was gone. “Russel….” Aziza whispered in her thoughts and when no reply came, she knew that it was gone as well like the blood that was dripping from her knees. Russel was just about to have lunch when her voice came in like that. He shut up from where he was sitting and immediately ran inside. “Aziza…” Russel screamed running into his room. “What is it?” the sweet voice of the woman who Aziza had shoved down his nose came from the sitting room and he turned to her. “Aziza…she is in trouble. Her powers had suddenly disappeared, her mate is in danger and she is in even more grave danger with cops surrounding….” “I’m going,” Daciana dashed out from the room even before he finished and he breathed a sigh of relief.
