Demons awakening

The air suddenly turned stiff and awfully frightening. Daciana jammed her lips together and lowered her gaze at the sudden change of the atmosphere. Damon didn’t seem to have liked the news that she brought either and his powers were coming to the surface slowly. The instinct to protect his own was overwhelming and his demons were stirring from deep within. She knew that he could not use his powers for a strange reason but whatever she felt from him could knock a man down to his knees. The silence that came after her statement was powerful and it stretched for a long time. Like a mighty bird had flown past them, cold air washed all over her skin and it ran down her spine, making it very hard to breathe. Damon’s eyes were frosty and they were slowly going dark. His jaw was clenched and so was his fist. “Are you sure about what you just said?” Damon finally broke the silence. The slight cheerfulness she heard in his voice earlier when they were discussing had disappeared and a very cold and powerful tone replaced it. He was angry, angry for his mate. “Russel is the only witch Aziza had ever known since she came to the human world years ago. She is literally like his daughter, and aside from you and now me, she knows no one else, especially not a witch that can bind her powers.” She repeated what Russel had told her about the relationship the both of them shared. “It’s only a witch that can bind one’s abilities. These powers are a part of us, they are born with us and cannot just disappear whenever it feels like. A witch has to bind it with a spell and only with that spell will the abilities one has disappear like it was never there and it’s a reversal of that same spell that would return a person’s magic,” she explained nervously and somewhat angry as well. Their abilities were a part of them. No supernatural would ever want to be born without powers, none would ever want to lose a part of him or her. Russel knew this, it was their entire being and he had taken it from Aziza without her consent. She hated him for trying to steal from her like that. A low growl escaped Damon’s mouth at the end of that explanation. His countenance had blood and death written all over it. He thought Russel loved Aziza, and yet he had done that to her. But he could not simply just assume from one side of a story. He had to find out the very truth behind what Daciana said and if it turned out that he was truly responsible for hurting Aziza earlier, then the wizard would have to answer to him. “I have never seen you, how did you meet Aziza?” Damon decided to change the topic for a little while. He was trying so hard to escape his emotions and family. He had turned off his phone and he just wanted to relax before the day’s event swallowed him whole. Daciana smiled at the question and started to explain how they were sent to get Aziza. The story was of course a long tale and by the time she was done, the air was better and less threatening. Damon picked a lot of interest in what she said and listened attentively and curiously at what she had to say. She explained the fight and all she had to go through to be seen or accepted by her mate. “What is a mate?” he could not help but ask. Daciana furrowed her brows at him, not believing that he could actually ask such a question when he already had his mate with him. “Our gods knew how special we were and they knew how unstable our beast could be. It’s like a different part of us, like my wolf. She is my beast and can feel everything I feel ten times more. A witch has their guardian and ancestors, a demon has its demon and a vampire has its blood lust. All this can be very unstable and destructive and could not be in one body. So, they made us each a person. Like soul mates, these persons are our better half, they love us to the end of the world and we love them too. When we find them, every instability within us finally calms down. We no longer have the burden of our beast and strange abilities to yourself but our halves also share a part of us and we share a part of them to become one.” “Wait…so you have soul mates assigned to you. Everybody?” Damon questioned. “Yes, everyone has a mate.” “How do you find such a person in this big world and how do you love someone assigned to you by the gods?” “Human popularity cannot honestly be compared to us, supernatural. But no matter the population, you always find your mate. There is always a connection, a way out to bring you both together. It’s like a magnet, no matter how far you are, you must feel that pull. And it’s not so bad, love is just beautiful. You love this person the very moment you see him or her and they would just be perfect for the other,” she smiled sadly. He found the logic confusing. To him, it was like they were machines meant to love one person because the gods designed them that way. But he found it pleasing to the ears as she spoke and he could not help but think of the woman who was lying down on his bed upstairs. “But of course, things can be good till your mate dies or rejects you,” she added and his eyes widened. “A part of you dies. You die and might even take your own life,” she intentionally shortened that explanation, not meaning to remember Kane and the pain he had caused her. After which, she went back to the fight where she met Aziza. When she was done, he was rather speechless and surprised. “So, she killed your mate?” he asked with mixed feelings. She was ruthless, wicked and brutal and what she did was totally unacceptable, yet he could not bring himself to feel differently about her. Instead, he felt guilty and sorry for Daciana. “Yes.” She breathed heavily. “But that’s just it. He rejected me, my wolf died and he went about having fun with girls. I felt every kiss, every moan, every thrust and fun he had with others. I felt the hate he had for me. He was, of course, a hot shot and I was definitely not his class or type. To protect his ego, he had done that to me and I had died. He might not have deserved to die since we all came on an assignment but Aziza made me reject him before she killed him.” “I did, because I wanted to save him but she killed him nonetheless. I was so angry, so sad, so broken at first. But soon after, I realised that it was for the best.” she sniffed, pushing aside her tears. “Letting him go like that.” Damon watched her shed tears and wipe it almost immediately. Then she flashed him a smile like she was not feeling the pain of losing a mate. “I realised that I never wanted to be seen as weak, timid or foolish and I had to lose my mate to come out from that shadow. I lost my mate, she helped me survive it, and I’m eternally grateful,” she explained with a smile on her face. He stared at her for a while, finding everything she was saying confusing, but he nodded his head anyway. His mind went back to the hospital and how doctor Morris had said that he wasn’t human. If he wasn’t, then it meant that he had a mate as well. He shook that thought away from his head, refusing to suddenly think of himself as a supernatural being. He had been a human for so long already, it was not just going to change. He took in a deep breath and pushed away his thoughts and feelings, then he got up from where he had been sitting. He needed to check on Aziza. So, he started towards the stairs. The moment he opened the door, he saw her stir on the bed right on cue. Then suddenly she jerked and shot out of the bed. He instantly ran to her side and took her hand. “Calm down…I’m here.” Aziza felt his warmth and took a deep breath at the sight of his familiar face. He looked charming and he was no longer bloody. A part of his hair fell on his face and he looked like the kind of dream one should have forever. She turned her attention to his head and where he had been injured. Then she gently raised her hand to it “Hssssss…..” He winced and she immediately jerked her hand away from it. “It still hurts a little,” he forced a smile and stared at her face. Her hair was in a mess, she had lines on her face and her eyes were dull, yet he found her to be cute at that moment. The dilemma of his heart disappeared like it was never there and the thought of not being human left at the sight of her. Aziza looked away from him and looked around. She did not understand how she could have slept like a log but it was indeed the best sleep she had ever had. “A bath is ready for you and a change of cloth. Dinner is also ready,” he entered. She shook her head and picked up the sound around her. She could hear Daciana in the background and thought it was wise to go home. “Never mind, I have to go. I will do all those at home. Moreover, I still have to see Russel and thank him for coming through for me,” she stretched and yawned. She looked like a black nasty cat with lots of attitude problems and she was still so cute, he could not help the smile that appeared at the corner of his lips. She turned to him, feeling his gaze on him and flashed him a glare. “I will be going now,” she turned to the door and yawned again in exhaustion. He panicked and took her arm, simply not wanting her to leave, yet. “Russel must be waiting,” she turned to him. He frowned, remembering what Daciana had said earlier. “He can wait a little bit more. You smell of blood and fire. At least, freshen up,” he insisted. She turned to him, feeling nervous at that idea and more nervous that they were growing closer but she needed a bath. She reeked. “Okay,” she slumped her shoulders and turned to the bathroom. “I got some clothes in there for you already. I will be downstairs.” Aziza stared at his back as he walked away and a warm smile reached her lips. Her heart warmed up and her demons danced. But she knew that things like that were always for a very short time. “Get her dinner ready,” he ordered excitedly as he walked down the stairs. Daciana could not help but smile when she saw that smile on his face. It was still strange to see him smiling, but it was better than his usual demeanour. The maids knew who he was talking to and they immediately tensed up and went about their duty. “Your mate must be so lucky,” she complimented the moment he made his way to her to watch the staff go about getting her dinner. They had prepared a lot of dishes as always, and it was all for her. He had no idea what she liked and he wanted her to feed properly, so he had earlier asked them to prepare a lot of delicacies, just for her. Damon snapped his head to Daciana, his brows knitted into a frown and a confused look in his eyes. Daciana immediately backed away, realising that he had no idea. “What did you say?” he asked, mixed feelings of irritation and excitement overwhelming him. “Oh…nothing.” she tensed up. “Just that Aziza is so lucky to be pampered like this,” she stuttered. His eyes darkened at her nervous look and he clearly heard her. she had said mate. “What did you mean by mate?” he asked, suddenly feeling jumpy inside of him. “No…thing…” Daciana turned to the sitting room to walk away but Damon hated that and drew her by her arm. “What do you mean by mate?” he growled. The idea of having a mate did not sit well with him, the idea of being non-human was not even accepted by him. He loved his life, he did not need to be a super being nor did he need a mate. So, he was really irritated and agitated by the mention of the word ‘mate’ yet he was excited. His demons were rising, the pills were wearing off and a mate was ready to make them roar back alive. “Nothi….” She tried to speak but his gaze met hers and her lies went back into her throat. His frosty gaze made her shiver and his strong hold on her made her whimper in pain. “Damon… plea…” “Tell me…” he growled at her. His demons slowly awaken at the mention of their mate. His eyes turned dark and the taste of his powers washed all over her skin, she went pale in fright. “Aziza…...she is your mate…..”
