A jolt

“Damon,” Aziza lunged towards him. He was lying down and facing the ground and she turned his body so he could face up. There was blood in his nose, and ears, she had almost died at his helpless sight but the sound of his heart beating took away the terrifying thought of death. What must have happened? She wondered and looked around. But there was no one else in his room except for him. Someone suddenly walked in with a tray of food in her hands. When the maid’s gaze fell on Aziza holding Damon’s unconscious body in her arms, the tray fell with a loud sound and she screamed. The red hair snapped her eyes to her, her eyes filled with darkness and anger. Her scream suddenly choked her. But the other’s had heard her scream and they immediately ran inside the room, with guns in their hands. They froze when they met the red hair and their boss on the floor as well, but she glared at them, daring them to make a move on her. No one knew what had happened, but seeing their boss on the floor was enough to make them fire all sorts of gunfire her way, yet they didn’t. Her menacing look held them captive and even their brains refused to work. Their bones went stiff and their body froze at a spot. Their hearts told them to shoot, to protect their boss or retaliate for what she had done to him, but their minds protested. The fear of her had been registered in their brains and it had reacted and the fear had spread all over their body. She glared at them, anger written all over her eyes while she dared them to attack, but no one moved, neither did any of them make a sound. They knew better than to attack of course. “What happened to him?” she suddenly asked, not knowing what to do anymore. They stared at each other, confused. They had thought that she was the perpetrator and would have killed her if she was less powerful than she was. They never thought that she might be as clueless as well. But what were they thinking when she had been the same woman who had protected their boss selflessly, how could she turn around and end him? “He was fine just now,” one of them answered. She looked away from them, seeing that they had brains and did not attack and turned back to Damon. He was suddenly going very pale, the colours on his face were slowly disappearing like he was a corpse and his lips were going dry. The beat of his heart could still be heard loud by her but fear still crept into her heart and guilt consumed her. She swallowed hard and blinked when she felt a wet substance in her eyes that were almost blurring her vision. Her eyes trailed over her body to see if he was injured, but her eyes fell on his hand, where his palm was tightly closed into a fist. She stretched and opened his palm, then she saw the pill, the familiar pill that always drove her to the edge whenever he took it. Her heart tightened and regret filled it, it was truly her fault, she had pushed him. Weakly, she moved away and gave way to the guards. “Get him on the bed and get me a first aid box,” she ordered. They stared at each other for a while but did as they were told. The box was brought and she cleaned the blood in his ears and nose. His face was still so pale and he looked lifeless, that she had to listen again for his heart beat to be sure that he was still there with her. she was simply away for a few minutes, yet it looked like she had been away for a long time and he had slipped. She shouldn’t have left, she should have looked more carefully when she returned. But what was the need to beat herself up when it had already happened. The night dragged on and everyone soon retired to bed. But Aziza did not, she remained with her prince and watched him rather closely, scared that if she took her eyes away from him a bit, something bad might happen again. Right at the couch, she sat and trained her eyes on him, blinking only a couple of times, but her eyes remained open, her senses remained alert and awake. His steady heartbeat was the only sound that echoed in the night and it filled the room with a rhythmic sound. Just like music in her ears. She listened with ease, she listened with bliss and loved the rhythm. It sounded like it was calling to her, in a very unique way and soon it felt like her heart responded to the beat of his as a song followed in rhythm. A song only known by the heart, she slowly started humming into the night, appeasing the night with the warmth of it. Her humming echoed into the night, and the night echoed back to her. Aziza could still not remember where she heard the song from, neither did she know the words of the song, but she had always known that tone by heart and would always hum to it in times of loneliness and fear. Smiling as she hummed the song, Damon’s heart suddenly started beating louder and she got up from where she sat. She started towards him slowly, while humming the song and watched him. His gentle face seemed to have suddenly tightened into a frown in his sleep and he groaned and moved his head from side to side. Her heart ached at the thought of a nightmare and at once, she wished she could be in his dreams to fight his nightmares with him too. “Shhhhh,” she shushed slowly, quietly, softly, like a mother would a scared child, then she gently placed her hand on his head and brushed it gently. “I’m right here,” she whispered, allowing herself to feel and like he listened, he stopped struggling. His heart beat slowed down till it returned to its normal pace and his face relaxed. She smiled at his reaction to her, then she sat beside the bed and continued to caress his hair. Then she started humming again, and watched him. His hair was so soft, and it smelled of the ocean and she could not get her hands off it. Not to add that it glowed like crystals in the night. Her eyes trailed to his long lashes, as it rested perfectly on his eyes, then it trailed down to his nose, which was long, pointed and still had a soft look. His lips were still dry and broken from dehydration but it did not hide how small and beautiful it looked. His face seemed like it had been structured by the gods of the supes all together as she stared deep into that face that captured her from the beginning. Her heart, for the first time, felt at ease. She had restrained herself for years, hidden everything she felt in the dark, hiding in the shadows and showing no care or concern. She had locked it all up and was surviving well, till she activated the stupid mate bond. She might never be able to show him all this feeling ever again, she would not let him die again but right in the dark night, where no one saw, where he remained unaware, she could at least allow this feeling take over for a few moment. Just being there with him so up close seemed to be enough. For a long time, she watched him, hummed and kept watching him, that she became unaware when the morning came. ******* Damon regained consciousness and became alert of his environment almost immediately. But that soft sound, he had heard it before, at the court, and way back before. it was so soft, it eased the pain in his head and so did the gentle caress in his head. The spicy scent of hers was so strong, he did not have to be told who it was, and instead of opening his eyes, he closed it and pretended to still be unconscious. For a long time, he remained that way, comfortable and happy at just the sound that came from her humming, and the warmth of her gentle touch that pulled at his mind, his heart, to a time long forgotten. Was it truly Aziza? The very cold, distant and unremorseful protector he knew. But he did not need to doubt, even though he knew that he could not doubt. That scent could never be replaced, not by anyone. Seeing her so kind, so gentle, so sweet suddenly made him want to open his eyes. If she was suddenly so different, then her face would be the most beautiful sight to behold in the morning. Yet, he did not want her to stop, so he could only imagine her red hair as it danced, bounced and brushed over her shoulders. As he thought about it, his mind went back in time to someone, someone similar, someone familiar, someone he knew and cared for. But her face, her face and name seemed to be far from his reach. He frowned and dug deeper, going back in time into his memories. The urge to remember her suddenly pulling at his heart, at his mind. It was important that he remembered, he had to. “Damon,” Aziza broke off from her humming when she saw him frown. But Damon was far, further down his memories as he dug and fought deeper to remember. He could not reach her. She was far, yet he knew that she was there. He groaned as the familiar pain hit his head, and he twitched on the bed. “Damon,” Aziza panicked and stood up, then she shook him but he only shut his eyes tighter and shook like he was struggling. The fear from the previous night returned and her heart skipped. When it returned, it was beating so loud inside her chest, yet she was so confused on what to do. “Damon,” she shook him further, trying so hard to wake him up. He could not hear her, he was going deeper, following the lane, the path down his memories to find that person. But still, she was unreachable, yet he could feel her. she was right there and her very presence was pulling at his heart, making it bleed. The pain made him shake more, shake so violently, Aziza had almost died out of fear. “Damon,” she roared, trembling with fear, summoning her powers, summoning hell, summoning death, summoning something deeper, something bigger, something stronger, the house shook and her eyes revealed her powers. Her voice travelled deep into his unconscious, hitting him like an electric jolt, frightening him too and it pulled him out. He jumped up from the bed with a gasp. She sighed in relief and sat back on the bed beside him, then she watched him. His eyes were tightly shut and he had risen up like a zombie. “Damon,” she called out more softly, and gently placed her hand on the back of his. His eyes snapped open and a mighty current washed over her, hitting her so hard, the power made her skin crawl. She flinched and got up from beside him when she saw those eyes, dark as abyss, the white in them had disappeared.
