Alpha Cain carried Daciana in his arms ever so gently and walked into the paved and wonderful street that gleamed with sunlight, smelled mostly like an orchid and spoke of wealth. By each side of the streets were street lamps and street lights that captivated the whole streets and the field of orchid just made it all the more mesmerising. Cain grimaced at the look of this place and wished that the vampire’s heart looked as beautiful as the streets. With how beautiful this part of the vampire territory looked, one would think it belonged to the witches but instead belonged to the vampires and they were nothing but beautiful, at least in the eyes of Cain.
“You can’t shift with her like this,” Alpha Reed stated the obvious since they had run all the way from Ardes city, Alpha Cain’s territory where a meeting was being held by the alphas before the call of the vampire to inform them that they found an unconscious wolf in their territory. There was no need to shift and they had left the other alphas to continue with the meeting while they ran in their wolf’s form to actually get to the unconscious wolf. They left their cars, and other subordinates simply because Cain was so worried for his people. He didn’t want to find out that the unconscious wolf was from his pack and was willing to tear those vampires apart if that happens, yet he was going himself so he could resolve any issue that might arise amicably since it was a wolf who had trespassed into the vampire’s territory.
“You can go along, I have mind linked my gamma to bring the car over,” Cain responded and turned to the unconscious woman in his arms. He had seen her a couple of times to know that she was the said mate of his beta, Kane. Their relationship was never a straight one and it was rumoured that Kane did something unfair by her. He had seen her a few times sneaking around his pack just to see her supposed mate but knowing his foolish beta, he treated her unfairly and a lot of people knew about this. Aside from that, he knew that she was one of the few that were sent to go to the human realm to get the vessel and avert whatever was going to happen that would cause some distraught within them. They were rather unfortunate and lucky and he could feel that bad things had befallen the other of their kinds that were sent. He suspected that and with how she looked barely alive, it was proof.
Alpha Reed gave him a nod in understanding and immediately shifted to his beast. One of the largest of the kind with brown furs. His size shook the very ground and the vampires around immediately bore out their fangs at the creature believing that they were under threat and attack. But he ran away speedily, leaving the threatened vampires behind because he had more important things to do other than wait around for those rotten creatures when they had a kingdom to take over. The reign of the demons was coming to an end and that was way more important to him than any other crises.
Cain remained where he stood and waited for his gamma to come soon. It didn’t take so long for the gamma to appear because he had followed the alpha immediately he left Ardes. No matter the order he gave, his alpha’s safety was top most to him especially since the beta of their pack had not returned yet. so, he had taken the car and followed, refusing to shift so his alpha would not suspect that he was close by just in case he wanted to order him to return to the meeting that had already been shifted since two alphas left.
The car came to a halt in front of the school entrance and Julian, the gamma stepped out of the car. He stared at the alpha, then to the girl in his arms and grimaced at the sight of her. He knew her as Kane’s mate and knew of what that beta had done to her. But she was always so weak and miserable and he had once been so angry whenever he saw her. He still felt that way. He hated the fact that she was so stupid enough to cry over his superior in the pack. Kane was next after the alpha and Julia was next after Kane. The man was his superior and though they had never been on good terms, he sure didn’t go head on to fight with him over his foolish attitude even when he had wanted to do that a couple of times. He didn’t care and was not in the place to care when Kane did not care even a little for his mate. He always loved strong women and she was nothing but strong, it was sympathetic to an extent of being dangerously frustrated and irritating to see her. Most times, he could not blame her so much, he blamed the pack she was from since everyone knew that was the weakest pack in the realm yet she had a major role to play for being pitiful and weak which resulted in why everyone trampled on her.
“She is the wolf who survived?” he asked and opened the door for his alpha. His voice did not carry any form of joy to explain that he was relieved to see his kind. He would have been fine if it was that jerk or even Tara, not her.
“She is the one that was found,” the alpha replied also not liking that she was the only one that was found and gently placed her in the car before he got in and placed her head on his legs so she could lay comfortably. Julian got into the car and stole a glance at the face of the woman before he trailed his eyes over her body for a brief second. She had cuts on her body and looked pale to show that she was not in a good state, especially for a wolf who had healing abilities. He wondered what had happened to her and still thought of how unlucky they were to have only her return.
“Do you think the other’s survived?” he asked and started the car before it sped out. Alpha Cain kept quiet and stared out through the window to find vampires gnashing their teeth at them since they could smell that they were werewolves. He could see how terrible things were getting and he was more than worried. Not just for his pack that he would protect with his life but for the world that they built when it was nothing but bare land and trees.
“I don’t think they did,” he responded dryly. Believing in his instincts more than anything else. They had stayed out for so long, and there had been no news from them ever since they left their realm, plus, he lost connection with his beta and there was no way that they would be alive and not return. But the question remained, how did the woman in his car return and how did she end up in the field of orchids? And who did they meet? Who had done this to her? how powerful was their enemy and what now?
Just thinking about all this unanswered question left a terrible feeling at the pit of his stomach and a terrible feeling in his heart. Darkness was truly hovering around them, ready to take them away and they might only be making it very angrier and feeding him with rage.
