DAYS AFTER
In a different realm where it seemed that the time, the life and the air there was all but different from every other thing in the world, a girl laid silently on the bare ground, surrounded by wild orchids almost lifeless. But of course, this world was different, so different from anything that they had ever seen. Yet it was so similar to the human world only, things were all but normal in this world. The air was strange yet pure, the sky was brighter and had not yet been polluted by the very things that humans called development. But that might not be the case here, for this world was also as developed. They just had a way to get rid of bad air and black sky with magical properties and abilities that had been given to them. Cars and planes would have been built but they had a way of transportation and cars were not as fast. Nature was their next call and it took their senses to a greater level. An entire universe, a world different from what any could imagine, for this was not only built by science and technology, but magical and supernatural ability that could never be understood, no matter how it was explained.
The school across the street was filled with children. From the middle schoolers to the high students and it was just as it had always been. The only difference with this was, it was no longer a school for all races, factions and entities.
Before, the vampires, the werewolves and even the witches could breathe the same air. Not now anymore. Things were being divided, properties were being shared, lands were being demarcated and everyone was simply remaining in their own space. Long ago, a treaty was signed and the map had decided the territory of everyone. The demons, vampires, witches and werewolves all had a property that no other could touch. Territory had been claimed and they were now all living like the wolves that prided themselves with properties, territories and lands taken. Not to add to the other supernatural creature that had deemed it fit to remain far away from the rest of this faction. Their beautiful world was falling apart and no one wanted to be under the demons anymore. Not like they were ever under, because it was by agreement of all entities and vote that they had chosen the demons to rule over them all. Then the demons had picked the true blood, since they were the most powerful of them all. There was absolutely nothing biassed in the way their rulers were picked ages ago and it had been marked by blood, by water, by magic ever since then that the demons would always remain their supreme ruler. Not just any demon but the true bloods.
It was rare to find blood suckers, immortals, carnivorous beasts and people termed to have been brought out from hell to live together in what was once called peace and harmony but it had happened. The factions had somehow all lived together while respecting themselves and trying to not get on anyone's nerves. Though that was inevitable because countless times, fights came out between factions but not to an extent of marking territory over the beautiful world that they built together under the supreme rule of their only ruler. Their world was in fact coming to the edge of their very first war and it was taking away all the peace, tranquillity and beauty of their world because with such a war, destruction would fall.
The bell from the school across the street rang loudly, signifying that it was the end for that day and soon enough, vampires started coming out from within. This was indeed their territory especially since they were known for their lavish lifestyle. They took more land for the school and turned it into a big campus where additional things were built. A huge piece of land was taken for training young vampires and also for hunts, a hostel was also built and it was made one of the very best around this area. With the best library, very best and certified teacher, and a very high paying school fees, luxury was the next to this school.
They came out from the school and started towards their various homes, with guards, parents, cars and guidance or more waiting for those who didn’t have external lectures, training, hunts while others remained in the hostel. They screamed, showed canines, ran, pushed each other just like teens would always do. They were vampires and had all those extra hormones running through their veins.
Unlike the ideology humans had about vampires and folklores that went around, vampires were not undead. It was hard to believe even the supernatural being who lived side by side with them. They were considered dead and rotten due to their behaviour, blood lust and a whole lot more but the truth was that they were not truly dead. Drinking blood only helped them transform their body and soul and it transitioned them into something better than the undead and rotten creature people knew as a vampire into creatures like any other. They were almost like humans and could blend perfectly with them if they wanted to. The sun could not affect their skin and they could move around freely. And because they were undead and still had a beating heart and working cells and organs, they could easily reproduce and bring forth offspring.
But these creatures were strange and would only ever want to have children with their mate and only a few were lucky to find one. Others simply refused to find comfort in allowing a non-mate to carry their seed but a lot of them were careless and unwanted pregnancies could never be avoided. Yet, that didn’t make the population of vampires what you would imagine. Undead or not, it took a lot to procreate, a lot of will, a lot of fate and being with a destined one. Once children are born, they slowly transition too, by controlling their blood lust since they had no free humans to give them blood and learnt to take whatever they could by going to the blood bank. And when they get to a certain age, they stop growing and become more like immortals. Which makes everyone think that they are undead. Their kids could move on and live as they wish to live once that happens. They were literally the most careless of all the supernatural’s right after the demons, or right before demons.
Just as the vampire kids walked out of their lavish schools and into the serene and paved road that screamed of the wealth of these creatures, a kid amongst one of the groups stops working. His friends stopped as well and turned to him, but his fangs instantly elongated from his mouth and his eyes turned red with hunger.
“Hey…man...cut it off,” one of the boys amongst his peers said. He was only a high schooler slowly transitioning and it was harder to control himself especially when he could smell another species close by.
“There is a werewolf close by,” he growled at his peer and sniffed the air, taking the air deep into his lungs. The others immediately became alert and became mentally ready for battle, battle of any kind. It was not the first time their kind would go head-to-head with the other factions. They were kids but they knew of the changes going on around them and knew of the world that they were living in to know that any who wasn’t their kind was an enemy especially when they were in their territory uninvited. Just as the other boy had said, they immediately sniffed out the wolf’s scent and started to scan the area for them, or whoever it would be. They moved around while keeping alert and making sure they were ready for any surprise attack when a girl amongst them picked the direction of the scent to the field of orchid that was right across their school. It was hard to pick the scent especially when the flower had covered the wolf’s scent but once she caught it, she started towards the direction of the beautiful field. The others soon picked it up too and followed the direction that she walked with caution till they met the owner of the scent. Unlike the attack that they expected, they found something different and strange. A helpless wolf who was lying lifeless on the field that had almost covered her because the flowers were growing wild.
Alarm was raised immediately and seeing how she was helpless, no one attacked her or tried to do anything stupid especially because she was defenseless and unconscious. They instead took her to the house of one of their kind. The principal was very distraught when she saw the werewolf the children brought to her and quickly checked to see if she was okay. She had markings all over her and blood stains that proved that she had been in a very terrible fight but she was unconscious, so unconscious and weak, her heartbeat was rather faint. She hated situations like this and sent words to the elders in their midst. Those elders sent words to the werewolf clans and they came immediately to find out what was going on.
The representatives of the werewolf clan were two alphas of different packs. No one knew the pack the unconscious girl could be from with the description of the vampires so they had come as alphas with the packs and people to look after. Usually, someone else could do this for them, but they were at the edge of a war between each faction, between the demons and between a stupid prophecy and would definitely want to protect their people no matter what. So, leaving behind their workload, the meeting they were in and businesses, they ran to the vampire territory on invite.
The principal’s house was inside the school so it was easy to locate it. The moment they got into the school, their presence was instantly felt and the students who were still available or staying in hostels immediately gave them a hostile look while they made way for them or found a way to disappear. They were alphas after all and would shred these kids apart with one wrong move, they would rather not want that no matter how hostile they were.
“You are here…” the principal said the moment she perceived them and opened the door. A lady who looked to be in her early 30’s spoke up. She was one of the few whose transition and growth took a longer time to stop, so she grew and kept growing till she was thirty before her true nature kicked in.
“You asked us to be,” Alpha Cain, alpha of a ravenous beast pack entered coldly. He wasn’t happy to be there when he could be anywhere else but he was there nonetheless and did not want to waste time going back and forth over something that could end in a matter of minutes. The principal frowned and turned her gaze to the alpha that had spoken. He didn’t bother to spare her a glance and it hurt her heart. The damn dispute had destroyed a lot of things and this was one of them. His blue eyes moved from place to place and remained cold like he had not spoken to someone. This was the same alpha that had been at the gathering earlier when those wolves had been sent out to fetch the very thing that they feared the most.
It's been weeks since they were sent out and no one had heard from them. It was making the packs uncomfortable, especially their families, mates and a lot more. The pressure was just too much and he was right at a meeting with a few of the other alpha’s and they were all discussing the outcome that might have befallen their people in the human realm. While they still had to prepare themselves to get more of their kinds to go out there. But this time, there was an argument and even the alphas had refused to send only their kinds out there. The witches, vampires and demons never sent anyone the last time and their people had been the only ones to have gone to retrieve the vessel of a prophecy. If the other entities cared about this, they never showed it and it was very agitating.
“Well…” the principal gave way and gestured to the house. They both walked in like they owned the place, filling the room with the huge aura that emanated from the both of them. But they didn’t need to go far before they perceived her. She was a wolf alright and by the side of the sitting room, right at the couch she laid. Alpha Cain recognized her immediately and frowned. The both alphas stared at each other, understanding what had happened and knowing the hidden message behind her sudden appearance. Their people were gone and she was the only survivor. Maybe what they were facing after all was far bigger than them. They had underestimated their attacker and really thought it was strange to have sent so many of their kind to retrieve her when only one returned to them.
Alpha Cain walked closer to the wolf. She was definitely not from his pack nor was she from the other alpha’s back. Her clothes were bloody and she had claw marks over her body. Which was supposed to have healed but had not. Her breaths were small and the faint beat of her heart was the only assurance that she was alive. It made them wonder what could have happened.
“We need to wake her up,” the other alpha entered. Alpha Reed, the alpha of the rogue hound pack, the third strongest pack.
“I don’t think we can do that in her present condition,” Cain responded in his usual cold tone that always carried his title and authority way too much. His alpha blood was higher and more powerful and since he was leading the strongest pack, it didn’t help. He was stronger, mightier and more powerful than the other alpha’s so it was understandable that he was very intimidating even towards alpha Reed who tried to not look that part. He just hated this feeling of being subdued by a fellow alpha.
“I don’t think we have a choice,” he responded. Time was going by so fast and the oracle was not helping the issue with her demands. Cain ignored the other alpha’s words and stared at the woman who was still in front of him with something lingering in his heart and eyes.
“Call the other alphas, the other factions and their elders and try to reach the oracle. We really need to have a talk about the prophecy,” he ordered like Reed was simply a gamma by his side. The other glared at him, hating the order that he had been given but knew that someone had to do this with or without order.
“And the demons?” he questioned, grimacing at the very mention of their names.
“They are part of this kingdom too,” Cain stood up, adjusted himself and made to carry the unconscious woman in his arms.
“They are not…”
“They are high above in the food chain, Reed.” He picked her up gently and turned to the entrance of the house, once again, not giving the principal a glance that she so much wanted. Reed smirked and shook his head as he watched his fellow alpha walk past him.
“Not for long. Cain. The demons would go down soon enough and might go extinct soon. They are like a virus and the cure for it is about to be made, if not made already,”
