CHAPTER 97
ALEX’S POV
The road moved in a blur of streaks of white and black beneath my headlights as I drove away from the hospital.
The streets were already shrouded in darkness, despite it just being a few minutes past six. One second the sky glowed with a faint hue of pink, the next it was pitch-black, swallowing everything whole. My eyes burned, red from crying and my head throbbed with a slow, dull pulse that spread to the front.
I refused to blink too long as I went on, knowing if I did, the tears would just spill again. And once they started, I wasn't sure I'd be able to stop.
My fingers curled around the steering wheel and I bit down on my lip, pushing down the urge to–
“f**k!" I yelled, slamming my palm against the steering wheel.
